It is saddening to see such a charming anime drop its own charm.

At first glance it looks like a kids' show, and the first few episodes do seem like they want to sell you their toy. But also starting from first episode the comedy showed off its fast pace, from the character interactions you could tell the main cast genuinely cared for each other, and the attention to detail with the plot was great, so the fact this was made for promotion you just forget.

It especially hurts because the anime showed it *could* deal with character emotions in a believable way. The times it did ...

Sotsu is a long recap with only four episodes worth of actual new content.

You can seriously skip to episode 13 and miss nothing.

Even then, content that actually continued the story from the last season didn't start until the last two episodes. At that point the dialogue becomes too cheesy, even more than the normal Higurashi dialogue, and it just becomes too ridiculous of a story to actually enjoy.

The entire last arc only makes sense if you know about Umineko. Not having read Umineko will probably lead to confusion.

I'd either wait for a fan edit or skip to episode 13. This season was a mistake.

I won't spoil in this review, but I recommend you skip this special. It isn't good and isn't related to the main plot at all.

You can expect the same level of quality all previous episodes had during the first half. The setup was good.

Then the 'twist' is revealed and it turned into the stupidest story of the year. The message it tries to convey isn't bad, but the story unfolding like it did lacks logical sense.
The resolution to the entire dilemma was both confusing and underwhelming. I still have no idea why things ended like they did.

I think more context is given after the conclusion ...

[No spoilers]

Hold even a glint of expectation and you'll die of boredom.

The only good thing about this is that the portrayal of early teen personality felt very real. Most of the protagonist's dialogue and actions were exactly what one would expect from a rebellious teen.

Sadly, others' personalities fluctuated between realistic and ridiculous. Almost all teenage characters had unexplainable outbursts that left even themselves confused.

There were also very cheesy moments no teen would ever participate in nor act such way. The protagonist was the sole exception, whenever those scenes happened around him he just stayed quiet.

Speaking of feelings, we never, ever, get to hear character thoughts. ...

Preliminary (6/12 eps)
This anime is very dull.

Entire scenes and dialogue feel like summaries, it makes character actions impossible to understand. Explanations for events are so quick and vague that it's hard to exactly know what is happening with the plot.
It feels like the anime thinks its own plot is so obvious it chooses to gloss over the *why did that happen?* part.

The constant cut of dialogue and lack of consistency at times made immersion hard. Not being able to follow what was happening caused the anime to feel like a drag.

One good thing I will highlight is the demon girl protagonist. While at times she too suffers ...

By no means is this an exciting anime. To those who dislike calm shows I'd advise to look away.

This anime initially displayed a lot of interesting concepts regarding slimes (they gain abilities based on what they eat), most which were set aside to speed-run the story.
Many mini arcs about the protagonist struggling to find an use for his slimes' abilities were skipped. That was arguably the most interesting part of the series.

The characters were very good in the first two episodes, they acted exactly like a real person would. From the third episode on however, there was *something* missing in them. Maybe it was the ...

The anime's synopsis is misleading (and so are the first episodes) because the show soon turns into something completely unrelated to the main premise. 'Clickbait' would be the appropriate word to use here.

As the synopsis says, the set up is that the protagonist has to use her knowledge of the game to avoid the game's bad endings. It is a very interesting premise that the anime lets go of less than halfway in.

The first episodes, as promised in the synopsis, involve the protagonist doing her best as a kid to avoid future doom arcs. The very first episode is incredible and over-delivers; it shows her ...
