Tomosane Oct 23, 2017 10:33 PM
Yeah I don't, I just thought it was funny. I honestly don't see how someone could enjoy reading like that. It'd just ruin everything.

Also fair enough, I will probably use it for a long time. It's a good way to build up my vocabulary, and will be necessary for reading kanji.

I can't directly relate in the case of Dies irae, but I can understand what you mean when comparing English TL to Japanese. Even though I only read like 20% of SubaHibi in Japanese, I could tell that it really makes a difference at times. The feeling with the prose, nuances, and just overall feeling you get while reading. The Dies irae TL at times was kind of wordy in some cases, especially when it wasn't needed, or there would be really weird translations. It didn't bother me much though and didn't hinder my experience at all. I can understand not liking those 3 very much to be honest. I am just not that hard to please, and even I have a liking towards airhead characters like Kasumi. She wasn't touched upon very much, neither was Spinne. I mainly like him for his voice (lmao). I can understand why ya feel that way about Marie, I just have a really big thing for characters who have a big emphasis on the theme of happiness. So she just made me feel really nice overall. Rusalka and Beatrice are my next favorites. I loved that the reader got to experience Beatrice's POV often in the other story parts.

Also, Muramasa/other nitro+ VNs are something I am interested to get into as well. I am quite distant from the time I will be able to read Muramasa though.

Umineko being long as hell I can understand wew. I wanna have fun with it though, I really do love the OST, like a ton. One of my favorites if not my favorite. Zts is too good man.

Alright, I will once again, refrain from reading CC in English.

--I don't have a discord, but I think it's long overdue I finally make one. So I think I will do that sometime soon and let you know about it then.

Yeah you're totally right. I try to avoid thinking in English when I am trying to comprehend something. I try to /understand/ things in Japanese. At least that was what I was doing while in Japan. Looking up definitions is inevitable for me though. I definitely avoid Machine TLs, the ones that attempt translating sentences directly to English. I heard one guy say before he read Japanese VNs with English machine TLs, claiming they were fine because English wasn't his first language so broken English didn't matter... (wtf lmao)

I don't wanna be on crutches forever with hooking and parsing, but it's part of the learning process~ Reading is a lot tougher than actually conversing with actual people in Japanese. Both with understanding of the text as well as what kind of vocabulary/grammar is used.

Yeah I tried a bunch for the hooker, but it isn't really working out for me. Probably just my laptop to be honest. It's not even that old, it's just bad. I use it as a replacement for my old PC which is messed up due to a really odd problem I couldn't even find a solution for online. I'll try the hooker a few more times though.

Dies irae was really wonderful. I haven't really read much VNs, but it's my 2nd favorite one for sure right now. One of my most favorite stories every personally. The translation as far as I can tell was pretty fine. Of course not everything will be perfect, but it gave a good feel to the text. I could understand the type of speech different characters used that would normally be tougher to translate, so I was fine in that regard. Voices really help with that after all. After Dies irae, I just really wanna get into the Masadaverse even more, but I know that'll be a really big challenge for me in the future. I have a great love for such Chuu2 things.

Oh and if you couldn't tell, I really like Marie. Although the entire cast of Dies irae was lovable, especially how they all got their own time to shine. I even like SHUPINNE. (Most enjoyable name to say) Yeah though, Dies irae was wonderful.

I picked up Umineko again from episode 4, kind of weird since I stalled on it for years at this point. I was thinking of maybe starting another VN as well to read at the same time. I grew interested in Cross+Channel again. I know that it's been a thing for a long time that people hate on its translation for not matching up to the prose in Japanese or whatever, but is it really all that bad. I doubt it would kill my entire experience. Sounds like a big ol meme to me.

ご無沙汰ごめんなさい、、、兄貴。(笑)

Thanks a ton man, I actually really appreciate it. I'll be attempting downloading all this when the rest of my PC parts come in.
I need to keep studying Japanese, so what better way than to read in Japanese. I'll try out your methods as well as my old ones maybe, although they are prob outdated lmao.

I should be trying to read some more translated VNs for now in the meantime. (Just finished Dies irae like 30 minutes ago)

Good to know sca-ji got my back, that man and his simple yet beautiful writing, I wanna experience it fully with Sakuuta (also the soundtracks I listened to when the VN released only makes me wanna read it more)

I'll ask for more of your help in the future if I need it, danke.

Edit: I changed my mind, I actually feel like trying to get this stuff to work on this laptop bc I don't feel like reading any of the Eng VNs I have dled. I sorta just wanna test myself again and see how efficient I can be.

Edit 2: lmao I'm just tryna get mecab and jparser to work on translation aggregator and it's a lot harder than what I remember

also the text hooker didn't work out for me, got the missing dll files and all, but it still has some errors, I'll keep trying to figure it out myself though

Edit 3: I am editing this a lot huh, but I finally found a place with good downloads

I got Mecab and Jparser to finally work, I decided to just ignore Atlas for now since I don't even like the Machine TLs

My only prob is my text hooker crashes as soon as I attempt to attach it to the vn playing.

I think I will also try out rikaisama when I build my pc, this laptop really is trash and I looked up a bit about rikaisama
Tomosane Oct 7, 2017 5:51 PM
I really wanna read sakuuta. I tried when it came out with the text hooker, but it didnt really work then. Is there a way around that now because I am weak world and need an aggregator (?) in order to read)

And yeah I'm sure I'd have trouble with poetry at times wew

I'll have to build my pc first though (parts comin in soon)
