I will definitely let you know what I think.

Just taking a break (it did end up being a longer break than I planned but I will start it again. Maybe when Cross Game is over). :)

You are putting Durarara (or however you spell it) on hold just when I decide to definitely follow it. :)

kirarakim | 01-08-10, 11:55 AM
What did you think of Durarara? I am thinking of trying it although I am having trouble following anime series recently.

Heh heh, I had a few anime that I needed to get around to watching in my collection, I have Nadesico on my plate right now and I'll watch Mushishi after that. ;)

I thought TTGL was surprisingly good for what I expected, I wasn't sure if it was a 7 or 8 in quality for me, but for now it's a 7 because I didn't care too much for the last four episodes of the series in contrast to the first 23. But then again, it was still a very fun ride and maybe down the road I'll learn to appreciate it more like I have other anime I've given another lookover with.

I would say, for the record, that it is definitely the best anime Gainax has made since Abenobashi in my opinion (though in some cases I question whether it's actually the best since Mahoromatic, but I will likely have to think that one over). In other words, I feel Gainax is back! :D

HI HI!!! Giving out FREE!!!

Indeed, I've been trying to get through all the anime sets I've bought over the years that I've never got around to watching, along with some computer stuff too.

It's been one hell of a marathon, that's for sure! :D

gaguri | 11-10-09, 2:46 AM
lol wth, you started a blog too? Looks like you are covering more than anime (games+movies+sports, kind of stuff you rant in forum?), so anyway hope you have fun killing time with that =D

anyway, good to hear another positive response to Trapeze. I actually don't remember anyone say a bad thing about it, except for Ben from Anipages Daily. I started watching Oh! Edo Rocket, which I've been meaning to see for a while.

Heh heh, The Puma Sisters were an entertaining team, I think Dominion Tank Police makes a great anime for people looking to get into the medium now that I think about it. And personally, I think its quality level says a lot if its still got staying power with me to this day. I wish I could remember what my first viewed sequence was, I believe it was the hospital sequence I began with.

The original DBZ was a rough viewing exerience from memory, but the original DB before it, on the other hand, wasn't too shabby from what I've seen. At 50 episodes, Kai is very approachable though, I'll give it that. As for the integrity of DB Kai, that is nice to hear the filler is gone, which makes the series even more approachable from another angle. Nice to see such an overhaul was done, that's for sure.

I suppose if we were to count a few dubbed episodes on FOX's Saturday morning cartoon bracket during my childhood, and a few on CN during my early teens, I guess I did see a little bit historically. However, I've never personally made the journey to watch it in its entirety, but if I do, I shall take your consideration in sticking with DB Kai if I make my entry into the series.

Also, and I know I shouldn't admit this, but I've probably seen more Sailor Moon then I ever have DB or DBZ. I blame this on Sailor Moon being on at the right time on weekdays during my ever younger years before CN existed, and no less FOX aired this series alongside Dragon Ball being on their network during saturday mornings. I've probably seen about three whole Sailor Moon arcs, never bothered to record them on here though because it's been so long ago, so I couldn't say how I would feel about Sailor Moon today if I were to watch it again here and now. I even think it was the Saban edit I watched (the same company that did Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), so I'm thinking that if I were to rewatch it, perhaps I would be better served to grading it in its natural Japanese language just to recieve it in its proper form. But, this is just wishful thinking of course.

On a final note however, my favorite anime during my childhood would still have to be Dominion Tank Police, which aired on The Movie Channel once for some reason. Later in life I would consciously buy the series on VHS as an official fan of anime remembering its effect on me with fondness. :D

This is excellent news! Omori has been a very consistent director who's made a lot of anime I consider personal favorites, and it's always a pleasure to see him continue to work on anime even now (especially since I understand this year to be a rough one for anime in general from what I hear). I should really finish Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou sometime soon, but likely after I finish the rest of my Slayers boxset (I'm watching Next, and then I'll go through Try after that), along with Godannar.

I'd say the TV series for Tylor was a lot of fun, Tylor himself was a funny character in how strangely lucky he was, perhaps almost enigmatic in the way he would survive certain situations (some of Tylor's philosophies are very interesting to say the least). I'd say the supporting cast was a lot of fun, as the crew of the Soyokaze is a great cast. I think the only elements to the TV series I was a little bummed over was the lack of closure to certain aspects of the story, but the flow of the series was very engaging to say the least, so I guess the series' overall quality still outshined any personal shortcomings I may have had with it.

The OVA was very unfullfilling on the other hand, as it posed more questions and left them unanswered, though it was still enjoyable enough to watch in the wake of the TV series. The backstory OVA episodes were a mixed a bag (I'd say one of them bored me pretty good to be honest), and the end of the whole OVA series introduced a new threat in a cliffhanger fashion where you don't get to find out what it is (the story up to that point is still enjoyable, but I just thought I'd mention it). If you're itching for more Tylor after the conclusion of the TV series, the OVAs do deliver the goods as far as curing that lingering feeling is concerned, just make sure not to expect too much and enjoy the episodes for what they're worth (as they do have some quality to them anyway).

Since it's such a long series I debated whether to read the manga or watch the anime but decided with long series online manga is easier.

You can also tell that Adachi recycled a lot of little things from Touch and put them into Cross Game. But so far at 30 chapters I am already completely engrossed into the story & characters. So although at first 257 chapters did seem like a lot I don't think it will be at all.

AC-CESS | 09-18-09, 8:43 PM
Yeah, I have a lot to catch up in terms of the ones I need to watch.

I don't know about Appleseed, though. I may think of scrapping it. As for the others, they're most modern classics and Ghibli titles. Perhaps it's because of where I am, but getting those titles is pretty hard for me.

Milkymagic | 09-13-09, 10:30 PM
I loved The Sky Crawlers, Oshii returned to form with that movie, and he even admitted he was "putting more focus on the characters this time around."

It's a worthy title in his legacy to say the least! ^_^

Also, I'm bummed out that Sky Crawlers game is for the Wii, I really want to play it after hearing about its development.

When I get a Wii though, I shall play it! :D

Indeed, Golgo had some excellent action pieces such as the sniper shot from the sign into the bulletproof glass or even the longshot car chase. Golgo deserves to be compared to such early 80s-90s heavyweights as Ninja Scroll or even Wicked City.

Yeah, Riding Bean was one of my first anime purchases, I remember I bought the VHS from Animeigo around nine years ago, and its action was incredible, especially the car chase right around the end, and the hilarious "bulletproof headband" sequence! XD

Also, it was certainly a shock to see a blond Rally, especially since I watched Gunsmith Cats before seeing that OVA initially. From what I gather, Sonoda did Gunsmith Cats because some people he knew really liked his designs for Rally and May (they were on the cover of some magazine at the time) and he decided to go ahead and give them their own series. Of course, he originally wanted to make a large series for his first main, Bean Bandit, but it looks like he still gets some segments in the Gunsmith Cats manga! (Bean's a swell guy, what can I say?)

Enjoy the manga by the way, I know you'll love the arcs that series has, be it Bonnie and Clyde, or that asshole Grey! :D

And also, May tends to be more graphic in the manga too, if you know what I mean.
