I see. From a Nietzschean worldview, violence is what this world currently needs. War. People who are willing to let their emotions consume them and fight the world to the death. In the same vein, indifference to the consequences of violence is a quality that is needed in the world today. Modern humanity has grown cold, lukewarm, soft. We live in an age without any heroes. I believe what you said has encapsulated modern masculinity. Masculinity today is self-controlled, civil, domesticated. Do you want to know how Rome fell? Germanic warriors invaded it when it was decaying, and it was decaying because it got too used to comfort. Rome lost its fire, its spirit, its will. Today, the modern warriors are probably 9/11 terrorists. From this same perspective, masculinity is chaos, aggression, violence. Anyway, this is simply another perspective I wanted to share.
Hunter x Hunter is by the same creator and feels like a modern, more diverse version, with the main characters being so similar too.
