Normally I don't really like Mecha shows, but this being a Fantasy Isekai Robot Mix I gave it a chance. I liked the focus on engineering and politics during most of the beginning (with the show hovering around an 8 there), but the last few episodes when the "Grand Storm" arc started around Episode 9 seemed very hurried along to finish, with what seemed like relevant and interesting plot points and major character development written off in short "several months passed" narrated sequences and fast-forwarding to the end of important battles, making most battle scenes seem somewhat meaningless and investment in the new characters impossible ...

This just seems to be a bad Action movie that barely has anything to do with either the series or the previous movies. First the exaggerated use of voices from the off just giving orders or randomly saying things in the background got out of hand for the first half hour of the movie and on my nerves. It was okay how they did it in the series or previous movies, even if not the best story-telling device, but they REALLY went overboard and overdid it here. You finally get to tell something new after years of essentially remakes and quasi-remakes, and you just let ...

Finally got to watch this to see why it is considered an absolute Classic and a "Must-watch". It was generally alright till the 2Deep4U episodes started really taking off near the end. Not like most of the "twists" were particularly difficult to look through, since Nerv and the Council being the "bad guys" and having ulterior motives or something to do with "The Second Impact" was hinted at from the very beginning and that the Eva's are results of unethical biological engineering and had some sort of personality and Shinji's had something to do with his mother also rather early.

Shinji was also a bit of ...

A relatively faithful retelling of the first six episodes of the original series. Better animation than the original series and more focus on the main action/plot, with thankfully barely any swerving into annoying pseudo-philosophical territory or digressive lengthy flashbacks pulling you out of the main story-line so far.

However, there's also a lot less characterization due to this, and you barely get to see some of the side characters or relationship building due to the hurried pace of the movie compared to episodes 1-6 this encompasses, and unfortunately seemingly much less "servisu, servisu".

I'm not sure if I prefer this specific part to the series, but overall ...

Reimagining of episodes 8-19 (-10/11/13/16) of the original series that changed many things mostly for the better. Shinji exhibits actual development and character growth here and his final tantrum is handled much better, even though I would have likely preferred it if they skipped that part altogether. Asuka seems more annoying, lacks her previous relationship with Kaji and they skipped over her psycho-trauma to the benefit of the character. Much more characterization and character/relationship building in this than the previous movie. Somewhat at the expense of Misato and Kaji, who seem to get less screen time overall. "Interesting" introduction for the new character Mari and ...

Mixed Feelings
This guy got to be up there with some of the worst Animu protagonists ever created going from crying like a 5 year old child to rage-wallowing in despair seem to be his main two and close to only Modus Operandi. It was pathetic in the first season, but it's getting painful to constantly watch.

And when he gets his shit together every now and then because the story demands it to be able to move forward at all, it feels forced and contrived as a result. It feels like there's hundreds of other things he could have tried that could have led to the desirable ...
