This is a very funny, charming, and heartwarming anime centered around a specific gag. The "torture" scenes are very cute and every single character is incredibly likable. The show manages to span many different topics but is generally about being kind to each other (and yourself) and finding new family and friends in seemingly unlikely places.
It's perfect as a pick-me-up anime and as a binge show. Some people might get tired of the repetition of the central gag (that the princess always caves under torture and gives up a secret) but I think each torture scene is varied enough to be entertaining. Later episodes also
...
buck the formula for more slice-of-life style situations where the princess is just having fun with her new demon friends (even though we always return to her dungeon cell for more torture).

This is a binge worthy anime. However, to be completely honest, this show does suffer from the classic fate of most anime with an "unparalleled genius" as it's MC. That is - it's really not that smart. If you're able to ignore that part, and treat it like a soap opera-esq character drama, it's very entertaining.
Our MC gets away with pretty much everything he wants due to very hand-wavy "he can read people to such an extent that he knows exactly how they will react". He's also randomly just like, incredibly strong.
He doesn't really have much of a character arc either, but
...
it's really funny to watch all these girls fall in love with him when his expression literally never changes and he speaks in the most sarcastic know-it-all way. There's a really large cast and most of them get their time in the spotlight, but again, do not think any deeper than surface level about anything that's happening.
If you can take it all at face value you'll certainly be rewarded. Otherwise, you'll probably just think it's stupid.

The animation is high quality and the action scenes are fast paced and impactful.
But, to be honest, there really isn't much else. The story is very thin and there isn't much depth to any of the characters. Essentially, the "weakest hunter", through deus ex machina, gains the power to "level up" his abilities. He also gains all sorts of video game like abilities such as inventory, menu screens, status screens, etc. pretty much everything you'd expect from "one of those" in this day and age.
The story, such as it is, is the MC's mom is in the hospital with some incurable disease. MC needs
...
to get stronger so he can fight the boss that is holding the magical all-purpose curative that'll heal his mom's fantasy cancer. So that's what he does.
That's basically it. There are a few relatively minor subplots but none of them reach any kind of conclusion, and there aren't any other characters that stand out besides the MC. To it's credit, it is called Solo Leveling, so that's potentially to be expected, but it does make the anime feel a little hollow and samey after the 12th episode of watching the MC fight some nondescript monster and gain an unknown amount of "experience" to level up.
All-in-all it's a mostly entertaining action flick which drags in some areas and which could use a stronger supporting cast. If you only care about cool fight scenes, then this is the anime for you. If you're like me and want a little something more, then you might come away disappointed.

Honestly, this season is terrible. Gone are the fun misadventures of season 1 and to replace it we get a subdued Rudy how has somehow become even more insufferable.
I like season 1. Even though Rudy is and will always be a scumlord, the rest of the show more than made up for him in my opinion. And, to be completely honest, he was mostly harmless. Season 1 had a fun cast of well realized characters, all with different motivations and interesting backstories, and a strong purpose to the narrative that fueled a fun globe trotting adventure. There was mystery to the world and interesting tidbits
...
to find all over the place.
That's all gone in season 2. In it's place we have a depressed Rudy who is completely obsessed with the fact that he can't get his d*ck hard anymore. The first 3 episodes are good. It shows Rudy go through an arc of learning to be OK with himself again, and it ends with him gaining a new friend. However, after that, it's just completely insane how stupid it gets.
He's offered a chance to go to University. Yay! Remember way back in Season 1, when that was his ultimate goal? And he met Eris and all that because of it? Well, he doesn't give a rats ass anymore about that. He can't be bothered. You'd think maybe he'd take this opportunity to, I don't know, investigate the mass teleportation that essentially ruined his life and the lives of everyone he knew and loved? But no, he really doesn't care. The ONLY thing he cares about is his ED and THAT'S what convinces him to go - his God literally just telling him "If you go, your ED will get cured".
And that becomes the core idea for the next 8 episodes. It's literally all he cares about. If that wasn't enough, Rudy himself is 10 times as terrible as he always has been. His obsession with Roxy's underwear reaches a new peak and it's eventually joined by one of the most disgusting things I could think of - Sylphie's blood from when he takes her virginity. I kid you not. Not only that, but he sexually assaults two women who he binds and gags then leaves them bound in his room for over a day - forcing them to pee themselves. And, as if that wasn't enough, he goes to buy a slave. Not just any slave, but a child slave. Who he then, for completely and utterly INSANE reasons, threatens to KILL because she looked depressed. Like, put his hands around her neck "I'm going to blow your head off if you don't give me the answer I want" insane BS. Thankfully she starts to cry so he doesn't.
And finally, the creme de la creme, Sylphie. Someone who, for some unknown reason, does not tell Rudy who she is immediately, and spends a grueling 8 episodes pretending to be her alter ego - a man named Fitz. Even though she is obviously a female elf who can do incantless magic and is the same age as Rudy, he never once thinks "That's weird, I wonder if this person is related to the female elf that I knew who could do incantless magic and was also my age". Considering her "disguise" is a pair of sunglasses and bleached hair, this is just incredibly stupid. We literally have a scene where she says one word to a stranger and he's like "huh, are you actually a woman?" and it takes Rudy 8 episodes to figure that shit out (of course it happens when he just touches her waist). And when he does figure it out, his first thought is not "Oh nice! I'm so happy to see my childhood friend that I've been searching for for 5 years" it's "YES, my d*ck is getting hard again! I'm cured!"
At this point you might be asking, well that can't possibly be all it's about. To which I will answer, you're right. There are also a bunch of pointless side stories that go absolutely nowhere. We have to two beastkin girls who I guess become Rudy's underlings? Even though they impact the story zero amount. We have badigadi who shows up to challenge Rudy (for some reason) who then just sticks around (for some reason) wearing a torn shirt. Is he a teacher? Who knows! He just shows up sometimes. Then there's Zanoba! Remember him? He's back and this time he only cares about dolls! So prepare for an entire episode where he tries and fails to make dolls and then goes and buys a slave to do it for him! Really great stuff. Of course we can't forget Elinalise. An Elf who is under a curse where she just HAS to have s*x with men constantly. She eventually finds a BF at the school so I guess it's fine now? Is she still sleeping with everyone? Did that get fixed? All good questions that get brushed to the side. And last but not least Shizuka. What could have been a climatic moment where worlds collide instead gets turned into a snoozefest where, once again, Rudy's obsession with his d*ck overshadows literally everything else in his life. At least Sylphie cared.
TLDR:
There are two main plot points in this season. Curing Rudy's ED and finding Sylphie again. These both could have been resolved within 5 episodes and so we get a long and pointlessly drawn out "drama" that is just incredibly boring and stupid. Every side character and subplot is left hanging with essentially zero resolution or care. Characters that seem important just pop up and hang around for no reason and do not contribute to improving the story at all.
It's boring, insipid, and completely uninspired. And it is, as always, undercut with the knowledge the Rudy is literally 45+ years old and has lived TWO lives at this point. Inexcusable nonsense and not worth anyone's time.

It’s great. No idea why the score is sub 8, this should easily be up there with frieren and solo leveling for best anime of the season.
It’s funny, has good action, interesting characters, a plot that keeps pushing forward, and a ton of mystery that keeps me interested. The animation is also top notch - it manages to keep the original mangas style while also letting trigger play around with their classic flair.
Especially now in the second half the plot is really starting to pick up and it’s all i can do to not run to the manga to see what happens next.

It’s trash, but the kinda trash that’s hard to stop watching. Equal parts dumpster fire and trainwreck, this anime is a mess of convoluted plots, one-dimensional characters, and awful animation.
It’s the perfect anime to watch slightly drunk while bored on a saturday night.
To be honest, it really doesn’t have any redeeming qualities. I don’t even know why I’m recommending it or how it could possibly have gotten greenlit for a second season. It’s probably the beer.
Anyway, only watch this if you’ve literally exhausted all other isekai and you’re trying to decide between this and something like “in another world with my smartphone”.
...
It’s better than that.

Fantastic. Not only does the second half of this season make good on the intriguing setup from the end of the first half, it goes above and beyond to give both Bell and Ryuu much more depth to their characters.
Ryuu is the standout in this season as the story focuses much of it's attention around her backstory with her old familia. The show manages to expertly switch between flashbacks and current events while maintaining a sense of overall anticipation and dread through some of danmachi's darkest moments.
Additionally, a lot of love is given to the rest of the Hestia familia + friends. This
...
allows them to show that they can stand on their own without Bell as a central force.
While it isn't able to escape every cliche, at this point those cliches are almost like a warm blanket, letting the us know that yes: this is still danmachi. It's just danmachi done better than it's ever been done before.
If there was any serious knock on the season it would be Cassandra. She is terrible and I hate her.
Other than that, it is easily the best season of Danmachi, and just a great season in general.

The first half of Season 4 does not disappoint. It boasts an incredibly strong start and finish to part 1 of season 4, with only a mild drag in the middle.
FINALLY! After 2 seasons, danmachi is back in a dungeon! And it matters! Huzzah!
Of course, it wouldn't be danmachi if Bell didn't find yet another girl to add his seemingly endless harem. This years fare is a young mermaid girl who seems to only exist as a deus ex machina for Bell. She's completely inconsequential except for the handful of times she is incredibly important. This leads to a lot of fairly boring
...
scenes with Bell acting like his typical awkward-yet-horny self around her.
Thankfully, the show kicks it up a notch as it leads into the second half of season 4 with a very interesting twist.

This is far better than it has any right to be.
On the surface it looks like yet another generic isekai where the mc gets teleported to a new, video game-ish world, with abilities, levels, and, of course, multiple women all going after the mc simply because “he exists and maybe did one nice thing for them”. However, for whatever reason, they managed to thread the needle and create something that’s genuinely both funny and engaging. They’ve done away with the typical video game structure and instead have separated the mc from his companions in order to train him to become a combat medic who’s
...
purpose is to run around the front lines of a war, grabbing injured soldiers and hauling them to the back lines.
The characters are colorful and endearing, and the comedy hits all the right notes. The world is interesting and manages to not feel cliched. The one worry i have is that they will eventually fall into the same cliched trappings with a harem and an overpowered mc. For now though, we are safe.
Definitely the underrated gem of the season.

A lackluster anime that we’ve all seen before. Unfortunately, this one failed to set itself apart from the pack with thin characters, awkward comedic attempts, and a story that was boring.
The hook here is that the mc, an ultimate gamer, only plays games that are buggy messes. An interesting twist, which could have lead to fun and imaginative bugs, scripting errors, and zany hijinks, instead gets tossed aside in the first episode for a stereotypical power fantasy.
It’s possible this gets good in the latter half, but the first 3 episodes were so boring that it didn’t seem worth it to find out.
