It's really weird because when I heard that she wrote Frantale and Black Rock Shooter I said... No more Mari Okada in my life !!! But when I got here and knew she had written Hourou Musuko and Ano Hana My face was like this :O..... I can't believe she wrote the two anime I loved the most in my life but also wrote the ones I hated to death.

She's really hit 'n' miss but I wouldn't place too much blame specifically on her without understanding how each anime was produced. Ultimately, most of her scripts are going to be heavily based on the source material and there's still the ultimate influence of the director. Some directors may be more hands on or hands off so you can't really place exact blame for some of the failings in some works on her.

She is talented and has decent works, However, her habit of adding useless melodrama pretty much ruined many works.
