Treasure hunting in a kind of frontier area.

-Adventure and a historical setting with some similar action/gore/violence -Both FMC have a "immortal" male companion who are kind of gungho and are both [FMC] are, in one way of another, trying to avenge their father. In addition, both FMC have a dislike killing people

Both series have similar tones, they are very comedic but can get gritty, dark and occasionally gory. Characters of both series are extremely likable, and you want to see their relationships evolve.

Dungeon Meshi is to fantasy ecology as Golden Kamuy is to Ainu culture, making for a refreshing take on the adventure genre and its integration of certain nonfiction elements that make the worlds in each series feel more real/believable. While their plots differ, both have fun characters and incorporate interesting cooking/food preparation elements paired with a good sense of comedic timing throughout. Neither are completely slapstick and are able to deal with more serious themes, storylines and character development without losing their more carefree charm (although Dungeon Meshi is generally more lighthearted overall).

-Both are absolutely brutal and gruesome historical dramas. -They both have very intense, bloody action filled fight scenes. -They both have casts of characters that are pursuing a certain goal. -The characters in both series undergo very long journeys that take unexpected twists and turns.
reportRecommended by alpha_shadow
similar sense of humor with tough-guys-doing-dorky-things type of comedy; similar art style that utilizes tracing, which really adds to the comedic effect.

Both are very unique mangas. They both have action (guns, swords, although there are greater, and more supernatural powers in Fumetsu no Anata e), explore different environments through adventure (the mc is always on the run/running into danger), and have a goal/mission that drives the narrative. They give off similar feelings of action and adventure, as well as satisfaction. There is also romance in both, although it is more one sided in Fumetsu no Anata e.

-Both manga are based on historical events. -Both manga explore the cultural aspects of ethnic groups, in Otoyomegatari being Central Asian cultures and in Golden Kamuy the Karafuto and Hokkaido Ainu cultures. -Both introduce the food and cooking customs of their focused cultures. -Both manga strive to portray period-accurate and ethnic clothing correctly. -Both manga briefly showcase the introduction of historically accurate technological advancements to the characters (in Golden Kamuy being film recording and in Otomoyomegatari photography) -The mangaka of both manga do extensive research in order to portray the historical setting correctly.

Both follow a main character who is a complete badass and cannot be killed. Both involve the experience of oppressed ethnic minorities who suffer from both literal and cultural genocide. Both involves various factions on the move, uncovering intriguing mysteries, and working against each other with the reader never knowing who will come out on top.
reportRecommended by Fluttershy_Swag
Similar "characters goes on journey to find things" and Golden Kamuy has a strong female child character like in Yakusoku no Neverland.
reportRecommended by tennisbunnyrox
Mysterious treasure hunt in 20th century historical Japan with a spotlilght on the struggles of an oppressed minority group who rarely get any focus in manga. The tones are quite different - Golden Kamuy is far more comedic, and Yuureitou has a darker, more supernatural element to it, but overall the two series have different takes on a similar concept.

Both these titles stand out to me for their compelling characters. Both series feature a large cast of characters (who manage to be bizarre in a way that feels totally believable) who are just a joy to read. If you're sick of action manga with bland dialogue scenes, give Golden Kamuy a try.

If you enjoyed Dr. Stone for its combination of dramatic tension, battles which are won out of cleverness, colorful characters, and highly informative coverage of real-world survival skills, then you can find all of those things in Golden Kamuy, albeit in a much more grounded and realistic portrayal of both conflict and of wilderness survival. Essentially, if you liked Dr. Stone but would like to see these concepts presented in a far more adult story, check out Golden Kamuy.

Have you ever been reading the parts of Golden Kamuy where the main characters are roughing it in the woods and doing cute camping antics, and thought, I would read a whole manga of just these parts? Boy do I have the series for you! Yuru Camp is about camping and nothing else, and it’s really good at being about camping and nothing else. Both these manga are clearly written by a mangaka who’s done their research about the subject of outdoorsmanship, so you might even pick up some real-life camping tips!

Both Golden Kamuy and Manchuria Ahen Squad revolve around the chase for capital. The protagonists in both stories are veterans of war. Furthermore, both stories have some type of army as a participating group in the war of acquiring money. There are also various cultures and ethnicities in both stories. The level of violence is also similar. If you enjoy a thrilling, action-filled story, both stories are good reads.

These two manga have a dark side to them, but can make room for great comedy as well! Some scenes are incredibly emotional, reveals can truly be shocking and thought far ahead. *Both authors have an amazing capability to make the story complete, tying things from the past to the present continuously as you read through them. *Both are masters of withholding information, not revealing everything in one go, but keep more for in the future. <>One Piece does not have as many jokes meant for adults as Golden Kamuy.

Main duo is similar to one another: Male fighter (seemingly immortal) + young girl who really care about each other. Good moments of focus on a character's unspoken feelings. Action scenes aren't dragged out for too long. Side cast has charisma and doesn't get forgotten that easily.
reportRecommended by RaviDavi
Very similar feel, the plot is also slightly similar. Both series contain a quest to find different parts of individual treasures (in Itsuwaribito there are special artifacts or something while in this you can see the treasures as the individual tattoo maps) that lead to a greater treasure altogether. Both series are set in the past and have interesting casts that travel from place to place. I haven't finished Golden Kamuy yet as of writing this recommendation, but Itsuwaribito also has darker themes as the story progresses which might appeal to readers of both series.

Both mangas have dark atmosphere and even gory moments, but they have a good comedy as well. There are moments incredebly insane and bizarre in both. There are tons of action moments so if you like that you're gonna be feed. In both works there are a lot of pain and emotional moments, and the relationship of the characters keep growing the more the story goes.

Very similar sense of humour, but golden kamuy has a slightly more serious overarching plot

Teamwork between an older man and a younger woman who try to protect each other during the rough times they all are in the middle of. They are smart and tricky to handle, as they never seem to give up even when in dire situations.

Although the respective genre and style is vastly different, the shared similarities i really look for in a good manga is: - survival/horror/thriller elements - strategies, analyzing, attention to detail - mysteries, riddles and fighting - A widespread plot that gets uncovered with the path of the characters - strong, well written female leads - overall great character development - philosophical/psychological/societal themes and questions great Manga that also fall in this category and share the same elements are : Basara and Yakusoku no Neverland follow these recommendations if you look for quality manga with a great plot and are open for different genres and art styles
reportRecommended by Folipurba
Main characters are (war or high-ranked) veterans with a lot of fighting experience. *The way of how cozy and frequent foods are depicted is very close to each other. <>Golden Kamuy is gorier and more bloody than Henkyou no Roukishi Bard Loen <>Golden Kamuy has a group of people travelling together most of the time, while Henkyou no Roukishi Bard Loen is more about travelling on one's own

Golden Kamuy is what Hunter x Hunter would be as a historical seinen manga. All the amazing characters that have their own exposition time, with their passions, quirks and bizarre personalities shown in a very believable way that is totally empathetic to the reader, not to mention a well constructed plot that does not fall behind.
reportRecommended by Gabriell_Braga
A child goes in search of the Ainu treasure, with help from others. They have to find parts of a map hidden in strange places. Both have a old movie kind of atmosphere.
reportRecommended by Kaiko
They both are nice stories in the, what I now call, "What matters? Good food!" genre.
reportRecommended by obsceneodes
Both manga are about a young, smart & crafty female character going on adventures with an older, mysterious & powerful male character
reportRecommended by spyda89
A historical manga, about a fierce legendary fighter together with a timid but skilled youngling, and a clash between cultures, where you get to peek into a past so richly described that you feel the author was there. Oh and you get sucked into them and can hardly stop until you've run out of chapters to read. Sounds pretty much like Shut Hell and Golden Kamuy.
reportRecommended by txrxgxu
Both these manga are historical fiction. Their stories are interesting and still realistic. In Golden Kamuy, Sugimoto and Asirpa are searching for gold. There are lots of fights, cooking, surviving in post Meiji restoration period. It is a fun read. In Issak, we see a Japanese sniper guy in the 17th century in Europe. He plays a big role in the 30year war of the Holy Roman Empire. The plot is wild, but executed really really well. Both manga give great action sequences and strategies/war tactics. And they are fun with good art.

If you enjoy either comic's sense of humor and the attention they pay to informing their work with authentic detail from history, you really should take a look.

i like golden kamui because of the atention to details and the loveable characters, but gunka was great because of the political aspect of it and the great characters as well. bottom line i think that someone who enjoyed one would like the other

If you're looking for a fast paced, gripping story with gritty action, well-timed comic relief amid serious moments, World of Badass, well-rounded characters with tragic pasts/varied world views that drive them towards their goals, a web of relationships where characters can become allies or enemies, an appreciation of good food, some of the best gag/reaction faces manga has to offer, then look no further than Fullmetal Alchemist and Golden Kamuy to make you laugh, cry, and cheer.
reportRecommended by xxxATiON
Similar historical manga with a focus on accuracy
reportRecommended by angryirishdude
The authors regularly discuss survival techniques in comparable depth, though in Golden Kamuy these particular segments are more tangentially related to preparation of food or exploration of culture. Jisatsutou is a lot better when it comes to exploring its main plot (which doesn't actually relate to food.)
reportRecommended by Cerisine
Both series have rich world building, cool survival/hunting aspects, loveable characters and humor. They are different in a lot of ways but both are excellent adventure series. GK is a seinen
