Preliminary Spoiler

On paper, Lonely Alien seems like a standard shonen urban fantasy about a group of high schoolers saving the world. And yet, there's a lot more to it as a series than just that; Lonely Alien is about the pain that loneliness can bring to someone, and how, if given the opportunity, many people would act if what they consider to be their purpose in life is threatened or challenged. It's a story about characters that lock heads against each other in spite of understanding each other, because they're desperate to fill that void within themselves and simply want validation for existing. It's about how ...

Preliminary (76/78 chp)
Overall:
Lonely Alien (or Hitoribocchi no Chikyuu Shinryaku) is a manga that I thoroughly enjoyed. Whereas some manga readers would just skim over dialogue (especially long ones) I'd recommend gathering your willpower and read as dialogues and narratives contain a deep lore and good characterization. The art isn't that good, but the story and the characters cover for it.

Story - 8

Hitoribocchi no Chikyuu Shinryaku starts as exactly what its synopsis says. That said, it doesn't only tackle that but also tackles many other things. We could say that it's a "Slice of Life" manga while also saying that it's also an "Action" manga.

tl;dr: A manga with some interesting concepts in general, but that’s told in such a way that it feels kind of dull.

This manga started off decent but felt like it got overtly random as it went on. It starts off as a story of highschoolers doing various things that highschoolers do while also fighting off aliens in their spare time. This part was done decently enough, focusing on developing the relationship between the main characters Kouichi and Nozomi. As it proceeds it gets a lot more intense and quite a bit darker however, with the relationship between Kouichi and his brother Nagi becoming much more ...

It's one of the best shounen-romance-action-drama-sci-fi I have ever read for sure. The characters are well-fleshed out, the plot is interesting and while I wish there was a bit more world-building, it's good enough as it is.

The motivations of the characters are easy to understand despite the characters being complex enough to interest you. The romance is definitely one of the best parts of the story with memorable moments between Nozomi and Koichi.

Of course, there are flaws. The dynamic between the second major romantic duo was... a bit rushed in my opinion. It could have been more fleshed out. Koichi's grandpa also ...
