Josei titles about a woman who goes to great lengths for beauty and the ensuing breakdown of her life, her relationships, and her career.

Observe the "heroine" fall further and further down the spiral of despair, with debauchery and depression.

Both involve fake appearances that belie the true nature of a person. Both are also very psychological and even quite uncomfortable to read (in a good way).

Although the subject matter doesn't really relate to this, i feel like the mood and intensity is something that these two have in common. Helter Skelter and Copernicus no Kokyuu both have main characters who are obviously unstable and verging on mental breakdowns. Although the main character in HS is a bit more neurotic and Id like, Copernicus's main character is just trying to escape life as it seems in the more climactic points in HS. The art styles are both alternative and (i feel) additive to the story. Something i find very refreshing about both mangas.

I'd call it Japanese Requiem for a Dream. Lost, deluded characters are gradually ruining their lives. How far will they go? Will there ever be a way to turn back and get a redemption, or is it already too late?

Both mangas have a female main character who is envied by her beauty, but while Tomie's plot takes an sobrenatural (somentimes kinda ridiculous) course, Helter Skelter have a more serious take about issues like self steem, depression and beauty standards .

Lies (face), Lies (money), Lies (status), Lies (sex), a endless circle of lies called life that both the main characters created by escaping reality. A life that they dreamed of but became a living nightmare of no escape. A life that might be remembered by us and that is the life of Ririko and Nakoshi. While they may be similar in character they are very different by the world that they perceive and ultimatly changes tham in various different ways trought out their respectiv storys. Nakoshi sees a world that reflects himself and tryes trought out the story to find himself, while Ririko tries to  read more

Dramatic, disturbing josei manga that beautifully depict the deterioration of their characters. Sono Saki no Fuukei's style has many strong visual contrasts, such as the delicate features of a woman crawling with insects while Helter Skelter is rough, erratic, and raw in both writing and presentation.

Liliko and Toshiko are the same - fake and selfish celebreties, destroying their opponents. Also similar plot, supporting characters and even finishing.
