Hard-boiled, gritty yakuza dramas with a BL slant.

They're both yaoi manga that involve the yakuza, the boss and their most trustworthy companion - and they both have smexy scenes! *v* >.< Hope you like them!

Both involve with Yakuza, both have a bit of psychology going on with mild dark pasts (TB, Saezuru definitely has dark pasts) and both are very interesting. Highly recommended.

It's a little difficult to explain why I'm recommending this manga, bc on the surface, these two are very different. While Saezuru deals entirely with the world of the yakuza, Canis deals with the yakuza as its background - with more focus being on the relationships between the MCs. If I had to point out similarities, then it would be how well written the MCs of both the manga are, and how fantastic the art in both of them is! And ofc, the fact that they're both ongoing :/

Similar setting. Both titles are about a loose company boss, who sleeps with about anyone, and has some trust/mental issues. And then there is this nice and docile underling, of course he also has his own 'baggage' from his past. Both mangas feature how the relationship between the protagonists and especially the 'pure' feelings of the underling change their boss. Well the main difference is, that Kurui Naku is an omegaverse manga and Seaezuru has a yakuza setting.

"This is the story of a man who has never known happiness and of a man who is reborn by getting to know him." This line perfectly describes the story of Kimi ga as well. If you ignore Saezuru's yakuza setting and Yashiro's masochism, you'll find that both manga have nearly identical character relationships - a master/employer who's a dick to his newly appointed employee, makes him work hard and do jobs that purposefully humiliate him, while his hard working and perseverant employee takes it all in bc he's besotted with his master. The master is aware of his feelings, which he eventually starts returning after  read more

There is a dark theme for each manga because main characters of them suffers from not knowing the feeling of loved by someone. They sleeps with other men. In STH Yashiro does this to satisfy his hedonist side and in Mods Shiro does because he believes he can't live without doing this. After they met a man who loves them with just being themselves they found true love for them. Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai is longer and contains yakuza theme also.

This rec is for ch1-2 of Gesu - a super masochistic uke who will go to great lengths to get what he wants, including provoking the people he loves.

Both have fire art style and similar Yakuza theme with thriller type erotic chapters.

This is looking into relationships that are troubled from previous abuse/neglect and rough upbringings. During each manga you see the characters struggle through these issues and grow as they understand and cope.

Yondaime Ooyamato Tatsuyuki has: - It's yaoi. - Has a yakuza theme. - A main focus of both manga is trauma and how it affects the victim going forward. - Realistic characters that don't feel cliche. Something that I really liked about Yondaime Ooyamato Tatsuyuki was that it's characters communicate with each other in a believable way and they don't expect forgiveness if they have done something toxic. It's so refreshing to see amongst the flood of BL manga that make the relationship creepy for no reason and then they don't have the characters address the issues/toxicity in the relationship. This is a lot shorter than saezuru it's only one volume  read more

While their stories are different, you'll find the characters are quite similar to each other. We have the strong, resolute and stoic faced seme and an uke who's free and loves basking in people's attention. It's also the seme who falls for the uke first.

Psychological yakuza drama with a self-destructive main character who is incapable of a normal relationship. Both stories are complex, emotional, romantic, dark and sad.

Both stories share themes of psychological abuse with characters who are broken by the relationships they have with one another. While SG begins with a cheerful atmosphere and spirals into an emotional narrative, Saezuru (along with its Tadayoedo prequel) takes a darker, more graphic approach, quickly introducing you to a lonely and depressing existence.

The characters in both mangas are damaged men and the seme is impotent. Tenshi no Uta in much more darker and twisted than Saezuru and you will most likely end up hating it's characters rather than rooting for them. It's a good read though.

Female-oriented manga with a hardboiled, gritty style. The unexpressed emotions, not exclusively romantic or sexual, between characters are palpable.

When I think of Caste Heaven I think of a "darker" themed yaoi manga and thus I recommend Saezuru. Mafia trope but the main character is the "cum dumpster" of the series and goes through a lot of psychological and philosophical processes whilst the other protagonist is impotent, yet in love with said character. I just think it's a really well put together manga that deserves everyone's attention and I put it on the same level as Caste Heaven.

Dark atmosphere and plot. Both uke and seme have rough pasts.

Both manga involve very dark themes in which the ukes have rough pasts.

Both are yakuza centered manga with a bit of BL in the mix. These two manga's resemble each other in that they both have characters with turbulent past traumas. Each manga also have vividly drawn violent/abuse settings portraying the inner workings of the underworld.

The stories and settings are nothing alike but the uke main characters in both start out as self-loathing men who will sell or trade their body to anyone for anything, but who, over time, grow to treasure themselves and the person they love. Both made me cry.

Written by the same author. Both include dark themes and a dark uke.

While Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai is much hotter and focuses more on the steamy, gritty side of Yakuza X Yaoi (as a main theme while Gives doesn't) it's still a good read after Gives. The author of Saezuru, "Yoneda Kou," also has another extremely sexy Yakuza X Yaoi manga out called "Crows Zero: Borderless", (one of my favs!) but for some reason MAL doesn't have it available for a quick look up. Be sure to check out all these great works ^^b
