Synopsis

Suddenly, a fleet of ships with mysterious superweapons called the "Fleet of Fog" appeared all around the world. Humanity didn't have the technology to fight such a fleet, so they were driven out of the sea.

Seventeen years after the battle, Gunzou Chihaya and his crew mates aboard the I-401 and the personification (Mental Model) of the I-401, Iona, started fighting the Fleet of Fog.

One day, out of nowhere, a race of sentient, hyper-advanced battleships called the Fleet of Fog appear across the earth and blockade the entire human race onto land. The humans fight back and, despite being massively behind technologically to the battleships, they do far better than expected and capture one of the ships. The Fleet of Fog reason that this is because the humans used strategy and tactics, while the Fleet of Fog have no concept of time so cannot learn from the past or predict the future. How they come to this conclusion in the first place when they supposedly can’t learn isn’t explained, read more

Manga: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Aoki Hagane is pretty much a mecha manga, just that instead of being giant robots there are ships and submarines with AI conscience. The overall storytelling is the same than most of mechas, giving instructions from a dock, fields of energy, lasers and stuff, all set up in a war enviroment after an external attack that brought humanity back in resources but above in technology.
