The manga which came under heavy criticism even before the release of the first chapter, a new serialization from the author of Tokyo Revengers, Negai no Astro has the hit the scene. My thoughts about it. Ehhh.....
Firstly, let's address the criticism, it is overblown. Condemnation of a work just cause the ending of Tokyo Revengers, which was the author's previous work, was a bit controversial, is just braindead. But is every and all criticism against it is just the result of the hate train? No. Because to an extent it needs criticism.
The author, witnessing the success of his previous work, decided to put on the
...
same dish to the platter, just with a different name. The story features the same delinquent schtick as the previous one, with the same politics involving kids looking like adults. The author didn't even bother changing the character designs, he literally reused some of the designs from TR and even made them carry some of their personalities and called it a day. The story too, resembles his previous work too much to call it an inspiration. Just swapped the time travel plot device with the Astro one. The reader who has not read TR will not see anything wrong about it, but those who came cause "It is from the author of Tokyo Revengers" can see holes in the situation.
But if we just exclude everything else and all it remains is the manga, even then it is not something to praise about. It is just about average currently. Obviously this is all based off of the 3 chapters released and it may get better down the line (hopefully). Art, if we don't relate it to Tokyo Revengers, is very good. Character, ehhh... I guess I have talked enough about them already.
The author, I guess, tried to give the fans of TR a nostalgic drink to sip on, but making a whole manga based of on the feeling of nostalgia alone is probably not a good idea.
