I try to write my reviews as objectively as possible considering MAL's numbers and their respective wording like 5 = mediocre.
Lets start with general gist it is a rom-com shounen and slice of life. Rom-com and shounens are generally a red flag for me since they reek of lack of creativity because after lets say 5 rom-coms you start to see that they are all the same and only few toppings change like the initial story, character looks (not personality) and pace. Slice of life genre is a lie here while it does have elements of it it quickly went to school life
...
route so the holy quadility romcom shounen and school life is a mixture for mediocrity with heavy copy paste elements.
Generally speaking i know how the story will go and possibly how it will end most plausibly after chapter 27 we will meet FL relative who will be hating ML tsundure then her ex organization will go after her and ML, hostage situations, resolving past traumas, FL leaving MC because of reasons (you know the usual bs reason) and right after or after time lapse they meet again.
Story 5/10 (mediocre)
Initially story started as something unique but soon after it started to spiral down to the usual cliche routes of romcom shounen SCHOOL LIFE btw mc here is 16y old (almost feels like calling it a classic).
By cliche i mean we are introduced with the main cast and some of their background soon after we see some copy pasted support cast first enemy turns good after 2 chapters and right after slice of life turns full throttle school life bs with heavy comedy elements.
Like overly positive and mischievous sister, 0 experience in life FMC, overly good MC with "trauma" and mother complex which is overshadowed by comedy (do not create dramatic background and then plaster everything with cheezy over the head comedy), envious classmates with their murderous gazes, siscons, lesbian like vibes and etc.
Story for now took place in MC house, market and finally school and a damn school festival next we will see going to the beach, hot springs, christmas and new years and in every of those events previously stated places mischievous sister, ex-villain and possibly some character who would try to disrupt intimacy between MC's would create setting for the set.
Since it wasn't bad i put 5 as in mediocre it doesn't bring anything new or exciting to the table but it fallows industrial standard of Romcom shounen SCHOOL LIFE.
Art 8/10(8=very good)
As per usual the saving grace of the art comes to the rescue. Possibly the only redeeming thing here is art of characters and background. Speech bubbles and panel placement are easy to read and understand.
Characters 5/10 (5=mediocre)
Absolutely nothing can be said about ML he copy pasted to the extreme, ordinary KID with so e trauma in the past "mommy complex" who is very kind.....And that's all ohh and he is completely unfazed by assassins and life threats...
FL super assassin. What?! you wanted more? Well she is like a newborn child besides knives and assassinations so that character progression would seem amazing for the reader.
Support cast and background cast are as cliche as ever for now we are only to meet tsundure who hates ML and we have a full deck almost....
Enjoyment 3/10 (3=poor)
Hard to enjoy it with classical troupes all over the place, nothing new except the initial chapters.
The only interest was the romance for me but i'm afraid it will slow if ever will cross a line since she is older (i think 20 or more) all the while ML is 16.
Comedy is not funny after watching and reading a lot of the same genre it grows on you so over 20-25 years romcom hardly changed and only select few authors decided to bring something new and exceptional to the genre.
Romance is with big question mark, it may go downhill very fast with the set and setting author decided. I'm afraid it will be raddled with accidents, loud noises that disrupt confessions, disruptive friends and siblings and lastly it might even go the route of her being to old for him and them parting as friends since author did make a few remarks about mother complex and how she FL helped ML like his mother did in childhood .....
Shounen...definitely shounen no questions asked.
Slice of life it started as one but quickly transmorfed to school life with the usual troupes detached from slice of life.
Overall 5/10
It is mediocre for the old timer like me, if you are like me you will most likely feel frustration and anger reading this a solid time waster in bad way.
If you are new to the genre or manga culture read it, you will find it interesting.
Currently there are 3 reviews beside mine 2 of them rated it 9 and one 5. Those 2 are not objective in rating it but more subjective 9 is almost a master piece, which it is not. Copy paste material will not ever be greater than genuine original.
Just read them how number 9 wrote review and how number 5 wrote it, one is trying to be objective and gives compliments and critique whilst 9 are fluffy overly positive and one of them even dropped it on ch.9.....you do not simply drop masterpieces and giving mediocre works of art good marks only promotes bad works of art.
Sorry for bashing reviewers but i try to rate it more objectively or do you compare this factory made romcom with Attack on Titans, Claymore, Berserk, Cowboy bebop and etc? (Sorry can't remember any romcoms for comparison but there are plenty)
