Synopsis

Natsu Iwashimizu's last memory of her family is eating her favorite meals with them. Unfortunately, she wakes up from her dream only to find herself in a sinking ship, being rescued by three strangers: Arashi Aota, whose kind-hearted personality does not match his quick temper; Semimaru Asai, who enjoys ridiculing Natsu's meek nature; and Botan Saotome, a skillful woman seemingly aware of their situation. Following the four's successful escape, they sail to a deserted island.

Unbeknownst to them, the mysterious island is Japan. After a meteorite landed on Earth, humanity was wiped out and the environment changed drastically. To repopulate the country, the government initiated the "7 Seeds" project, consisting of five groups—Spring, Summer A, Summer B, Autumn, and Winter—each with seven young healthy individuals and a guide. Natsu and the others were put into team Summer B, whose members are considered failures by society.

To get more supplies, the group must find one of the seven shelters built by the government. In a hostile, unfamiliar world with no loved ones to depend on, the quartet must learn to cooperate with each other to ensure their survival.

Background

In 2007, 7 Seeds won the 52nd Shogakukan Manga Award in the shoujo category. It was also nominated in the Best Comic category for the 49th Seiun Awards in 2018. In the same year, the series ranked 10th on Kono Manga ga Sugoi!'s list for female readers.

The series was released in Chinese by Tong Li Publishing Co., Ltd. from January 6, 2004 to May 28, 2015, up to the 25th volume; and in French by Pika Édition from March 3, 2008 to October 20, 2010, up to the 10th volume.

The manga was adapted into a radio drama that was broadcasted in Japan from December 9, 2003 to February 6, 2004. The radio drama was then released as three drama CDs from March 26, 2004 to May 21, 2004. A fourth drama CD was later published and bundled with the release of the limited edition 35th volume on August 10, 2017.

"The World is beautiful..It's a thrilling place"
Wow, I will have the honor to write the first non-preliminary Review ^_^
I only review anime/manga which I find to be a Masterpiece, So Let's start.

TLDR; 7seeds is a hidden gem, which didn't make it's way to the top 50 because of it's incomplete translation (or that's what everybody thinks..I'll discuss how I read it to the end in a separate forum post) 178 story chapters + 4 extra chapters (only 2 are translated that far)

Story 10/10
All of this started when I found this manga ...

Mixed Feelings
If you woke up from a cryogenic sleep in a hostile dystopian world with the order to rebuild mankind from the ground up, what would you do? Within that question lies the foundation of 7 Seeds. What would a person do under these circumstances? Even more, what would a person without any survival experience handle a more primitive lifestyle with dangers around every corner?

As questionable as it would be if the government chose inexperienced and traumatized people to save mankind, it’s interesting from a psychological perspective. Because some of these people can barely take care of themselves, and now they have even more weight ...

Preliminary (35/178 eps)
Spoiler
This Manga was not for me. After the first 20 chapters, I found it exhausting to read.
Why?
- There are way too many characters, the stories are drawn out really long and the characters are not really compelling enough. In fact, every character's story starts to seem a little repetitive - exotic wild animals, near death, sudden saviour, then all is good.
- The world building is too slow and seems a bit...hopeless. Seven teams discover 40 different types of animals, plants, landscapes...but I couldn't find it in me to keep myself interested with no promise of any kind of real character or world development.
- The flashbacks ...
