Mind Game would be an example of overlapping animation.

If the two types of animation used don't clash with each other sure.
But I'm struggling to think of anything that did a good job blending multiple animation types.

Whatever is done better.
I mean with high budget we get consistent animation all the time.
Any kind of creativity is welcome at this point..

Do you mean like Luluco that combines Western and Japanese styles or like vehicle/dancing anime that combine key animation and CGI for budget efficiency? The first one looks artistic which is nice, the second one can be hard to look at if not done well. Anitore EX had a pretty horrible dance scene that was the only noticeable CGI in the whole anime. Aikatsu has dance scenes that feel like the Sirenix shit from Winx Club (Sirenix was meant to be artistic, but it still looked pretty shitty).

long running anime like Naruto, Bleach, DBZ have different animation on episodes, i do not mind that at all since different animators and directors are doing different episodes because of tight production schedule and airing deadlines

I assume at least when you talk about overlapping styles in Mind Game you mean like this combination of live action and cell shading.

FLCL, Kill la Kill.

They do?
Care to explain exactly what other type of animation they blend into the regular cell animation in FLCL and KlK?
We're not talking about cutting to different animation styles we are talking about blending them together.

Don't they combine retro 70s style animation with western & CGI?

That's not overlapping types of animation.

Stop motion mixed with cell shading
Rotoscoping mixed with live action
paper craft mixed with a damn flipbook

These are examples of the types of animation you might mix.

Retro 70's is not a type of animation.

I thought OP asked for 'styles' not 'types'.
Either way OP is way too vague..

Yeah I understand your confusion, OP's question was pretty vague.

Somehow, the best I can think of with different animation types is Mekakucity, Last Exile and Shin Sekai and they did not even consistently do that, they just did them in snippets.

Apparently Ufo does a lot of claymation but I don't really notice them so IDK.

Not enough to compare.

Overall I prefer consistent animation, hate it when some good scenes look less good.

I haven't seen yet an anime that has overlapping styles, but this sounds really exciting. You can do so much by mixing up the art styles. Why stick to one?

It's okay as long as they manage the pull it off without making the two styles clash.

Kaichou wa Maid Sama did a great job using chibi art on occasion with the original art.

Consistent all the way through. It's stupid when they change it up a bit

Assuming you mean art style... The only thing I don't like is when an Anime is suppose to have consistent art, but has moments when the art looks like a fan made it.

Oh, and what is overlapping animation?
