In other news, I found this on TVTropes:

a troper, I suppose said:

What really happened in Turn of the Golden Witch?
While attending to the family conference late in the evening, Rosa came by the kitchen and mentioned to Gohda that there was going to be a Halloween party for Maria in the chapel the next day. Thinking this was a wonderful idea, Gohda decided to make some special treats for the occasion, but because he was distracted he accidentally reached for the box marked "Tiny Food Bombs" instead of the sugar. He gave some of the treats to Rosa, who took them to her siblings. They all went to the chapel to check out the party since they'd probably be too tired in the morning, when the tiny food bombs exploded and killed everyone but Rosa, who wasn't hungry.

Later, Gohda was hanging out and he heard Jessica having an asthma attack. Rushing upstairs, he found Kanon with her and reached for her inhaler, but as he swung it over to give it to her she tripped and he accidentally impaled her in the back with it. Kanon assumed he was trying to kill her and they struggled, and Gohda accidentally pushed Kanon out the window. Realizing he was going to get in so much trouble for this, he quietly locked the window, planted a stake in Jessica's wound, and walked off whistling.

While bored, Gohda decided to show off a new knife trick he learned to Nanjo and Kumasawa. Disaster occurred. Genji suggested they blame Kanon for it so nobody would find out, and dump the bodies somewhere.

Later in the evening, George and Shannon refused to believe Gohda's claim that he was capable of juggling three Stakes of Purgatory at the same time. Upset, Gohda offered to prove it to them in Natsuhi's room. Tragically, he was not as proficient as he thought he was.

Genji called Battler upstairs to tell him everything. Battler couldn't accept this ridiculous scenario, and declared that it was more likely that a witch did it.

I give this 4
out of 5 possible. Sounds very likely.

Uhm... well except everything else this point sounds only ridiculous...specially the "ehile bored"... after the murder I 'd be everything except that... xD
I mean, he was the pro-cook...why should he...

I still suppose that Genji was one of the main actors in concerning with Kumasawa's and Nanjo's death. There are so many discussions, who the "false Kanon" could be. Lambda said, that noone can claim his name but himself. Also noone can mistake him aus Kanon.
So why think so much about a false Kanon, his death was already confirmed. Noone would really believe that it's really him. I think some of the 'survivors' of "Kanons" assault are the real murderers who comes up with this mystery story.

Also noone comfirmed, that both died in exacty this room. Nanjos body was found in the garden, after it "disappeared'.

So, what did you all think of the first episode? I thought it was... fairly well done.
My only gripes are that they didn't really explain the legend of the gold and Beatrice very well and the introductions were non-existent. I think it would have been good to end the second episode with that scene not the first, and spend some more time on setting introduction also, but overall:

8.57.5/10

6/10, I thought. It was okay as far as anime goes, as an adaption it was of course a rather great failure, but I intend to just view it as an anime on its own.

klashkiari already pointed out pretty much all problems there were with it as-adaption, wouldn't fancy reiterating it.

I'd give it a 7.5/10. Meh, I'm not much of a purist myself. In fact, any sort of purist tends to annoy me. I usually just watch and rate stuff in their respective mediums.

I didn't really mind the cuts, but the rushed feeling in the episode made some of the scenes lack impact. But really, there's not that much you can judge just by the first episode. Hopefully the 2nd episode is a lot better paced since it's been confirmed that it episode 2 covers up to the end of day 4.

I agree completely with you BakaOnna. I like to look at the bright side of this episode being rushed. Now they have four episodes to do 9 VN chapters. They just did 7 VN chapters in one episode. (if you can do math that's 2.25 chapters per episode vs. 7) So it should feel infinitely less rushed for at least the rest of this arc.
I'm gonna wait till the end of the first arc to really judge it. Not that it really matters. It's not like I'm ever going to drop it no matter how terrible it is anyway, amirite?

Well I disagree with you a bit, guys.

I am satisfied with the introduction. For people who don't know anything about the VN it was maybe a bit to rush, when all characters suddenly presented, but the reduced content was ok. if the begin was told to long, there would be no enough interest for non-VN-knower who would like to see the next episode. The cliffhanger certainly fits the interest for the next episode.

It is just an anime and every episode contents only few minutes. They can't fill to much details at the start, which noone, who doesn't know the VN, would understand much.
The relationships will be explained later in details, I am sure.

My point-of-view... it was an acceptable introduction episode.

Episode 3 was pretty good. It didn't feel really disjointed like the last few episodes. Looks like they kept almost all of the scenes in so it flowed better. Main complaint is the Second Twilight. It was like... the least creepy of the creepy scenes in the episode. Kinda sad.
