This is not about scans per say. Since they are offering to let you buy mangas for nooks/kindles.. Do any of you like digital any better or would you just rather have it printed? What do you like about your preferred one?

I'm surprised we don't have a thread like this already.

I don't have an eReader/tablet of any kind... though for me, the reason isn't tied to manga but to actual books. I don't really like reading so much text off of a screen and my attention wanders with electronics (why read when there's some app I could be messing around with).

With manga though, my biggest issue is with prices. If I were the eReader type, I wouldn't mind the prices of books because they provide hours of reading. Meanwhile I blow through manga fast. So I feel like what I'm really paying for is the art and at the current standard prices I want that art in print.

The only place I've ever bought from was Netcomics and I later bought the series I really liked from them in print.

I prefer printed personally. It's better for the eyes, and it gives you something to hold on to... At a cost of course.

But I've only got 560 odd volumes of manga half of which is imported from Japan as opposed to having read over 5600 volumes online... As scans of course
I try to keep it at a 1;10 pace.

I'd definitely never pay for Manga that I couldn't touch via the devices you've mentioned though.

I love print books in generally more then digitcal. The only ebooks I own that I bought are the hunger games causes it was a 1/3 of price but I have a lot of books amazon has for free. Gen 1-3 is free manga that they have on their and so far if I want the other ones I just pay $1 -$3 dollars and sj has theirs for like $4 a piece. So price and space is a benefit but it almost feels as though I don't truly own the book when I read it off my ereader. I like the advantage of free and legal manga and kindle apps are free even to download to computer. But doesn't feel as right but I feel as with music and games eventually books are going to be all digitcal so idk if I should start trying

We've had subtly different threads on the subject--mostly along the lines if you read print/digital manga versus preference I think.

I think print and digital can serve different purposes. I obviously prefer print, but there's cases where digital copies are used as a lower cost alternative for a higher risk/niche title. For example, I buy all the issues of "Oyajism," a digital magazine that focuses SOLEY on romance manga featuring older men that are written for an older female audience. This would not be a viable title under a print business model. Yet I get to read it every month because digitally, it is financially viable.

As for translated/licensed manga, it widely varies. I bought a Kindle manga title once. It was awful to read on the Kindle and I wouldn't do it again at those prices. I've bought a few titles from SuBLime. The quality is much better, readable, and I can download a copy to keep forever. Again, I think their digital only titles are ones that they deem too risky to do a print run of, so they do digital instead. So it's either that or nothing: it's up to someone if it's worth it. Since they are higher quality, cheaper, and have a better distribution model versus DMG, I'll probably buy titles from them occasionally in the future. I've been mostly rebuying things I already own raw copies of so far.

Nothing can beat the real thing!
Hopefully my Japanese is pretty good so i buy them in Japanese! It's so cheap!I think i paid for my Death note collection only 22$.I don't mind paying 1-1,5 dollars for a volume.
But to be honest the amount of Manga i read online exceeds by far the one i bought!

Printed.

It's fun to actually hold the book and read it rather than having to stare at a screen.

Printed of course, it's very different to hold the manga in your hands, I personally feel better when.
The only, and major, problem is that it's too freaking expensive, and I can't afford to buy everything I read on line.
Moreover, some of my readings can't be found where I live.

Rarely read Manga online, With that said...

I won't pay for digital Manga, With Scans readily available for free there's just no point to pay. Not to mention if a company goes out of business there's a chance that you will loose your purchase....

Physical releases, I love. Holding a book is much better then looking at a screen...

Print. Definitely print for me by far

1) I don't have any sort of e-reader or tablet
2) I don't like having to scroll to see the whole page or sometimes zoom in
3) Physical books smell awesome, sometimes I'll just pause when reading to inhale deeply
4) Easier to flip back and forth between pages/compare things between volumes
5) Physical books look nice on a shelf, even if they are space stealing whores about it
6) Some ebooks have the DRM thing where it's on permanent rental. If you need to know why this is bad, look at what happens to all the manga bought when JManga goes out.

But there are plus sides about scans, it's not like I'm against them.
1) Price, they are cheaper
2) They can't run out of copies
3) Never any potential for tight bindings making reading near the spine difficult
4) Can take a lot more volumes on the go without risking injury to precious physical books
5) Some ebooks are pdfs given to you
6) Obscure things that might be too costly to get a print release could still get a digital release. Also, Viz is re-releasing older, awesome, OOP shojo like From Far Away and Please Save My Earth.

Print, definitely.
One of the reasons why I don't read more manga is my lack of money.
I get easily frustrated having to read it on a computer screen.

Printed. It's nice feeling when you keep manga book in your hands. And it looks so much better. Healthier for eyes too. But it's more difficult to have it. I read manga on the internet too, but I don't like to do it. But must, when I find good one.

I prefer printed, yeah. I definitely like to have the manga in my actual hands. Unfortunately, I've read far more manga digitally.

I don't mind really, as long as the scans are good. A lot of berserk scans i have to zoom in a struggle to read blurred writing... in that case id rather a book.

I like books though, i like to collect them :P

Printed. Nothing beats reading manga while comfortably lying on a bed or on a couch, and there's only so much time that I can spend with a nether-region warmer on my lap, although I still rely heavily on scans and digital for the many less-popular series that I follow...

I prefer digital by far.

I think a lot of people's issue is that they try to read it on a low resolution and/or low quality screen, and end up having to scroll a lot and it gets very annoying. I read manga on my desktop monitor with a resolution of 1080x1920 (in portrait mode), most manga actually needs to be upscaled to even fit it. My laptop is 1600x1200, which in most cases barely has to be scrolled, or can be fit to screen with no problem at all. I've read manga before from a book and I really didn't like it, I didn't like having to hold it and turn each page, it looked kind of tiny to me too. I wished I was sitting in my computer chair or on my bed with my laptop looking at each page and just clicking one button to turn it.

I prefer printed manga. The feeling of having something in your hands while you read is nice. The downside is that it's really expensive, but so far it's worth it. I mostly use digital manga to read the manga before deciding if it's worth buying.

Printed is always better in my opinion, but there are many Manga I can't get on print and can't even afford to buy so digital comes to help there.
Still the main reason of preferring printed version is that I like seeing my collection expand and that I can always read them... Of course digital is easier to carry with you, but that is a different story for me.

I like having the print version of a manga rather than the digital. Why? Because even though I'm not a big reader or a fast one, I still have a huge respect for books, and I like having them in my hands. The convenient thing about print is that say you have a black out, your computer stops working or internet crashes, you can just grab the book off your shelf and read (or re-read). You can even lend it to your friends. HOWEVER... Manga is kind of expensive and it's worse if the series has been out for a while and you have several volumes to get through. If it's brand new then you can easily just save up for the next book. All in all, print is better in my opinion, but digital is more convenient.
