So regarding Brave 10....would you say the sales are good for a first DVD/Bluray release?

Not really. What weekly rank a release has is meaningless, only the actual sales number matters.

Shana is selling about 4k (DVD+BD) a volume so far - not so great for a two cour action show from (what was once) a major franchise. Season one sold 10,619 average, and season two sold 9,091 average. Shana is also rather well animated, so it couldn't have been cheap (JC Staff put a whole lot more money into it than Kill Me Baby, you can be certain of that). For, say, Tamayura, that's not bad. for Shana... well. Especially since two cour shows usually cost less ¥ per episode, this you need to sell more to make the same money.

So whether it's #1, #10 or #100, doesn't matter, what matters is it has not-terrible but still disappointing sales.

Ah i see, thats a shame. Thanks for answering.
So i assume when the box set is released, low numbers are expected as well.

They are significantly higher than I expected.. its preorders were lagging most of the season.

A boxset of Shana III? I'd expect sales to be very low, yes. If they even do one, which isn't certain.

BD boxes sell best when the show was formerly available only on DVD. In addition to new fans, you also get DVD owners who want to upgrade to better quality. Shana III has a BD release from the start though (and 72% of buyers are choosing the BD version), so you won't get many upgrade buyers.

Even the first two BD boxes only sold 1,269 (season 1) and 1,162 (season two), for seasons that sold 2-2.5x as much as III, and were previously only available on DVD. A Shana III BD box might not even rank. But then it's not that common for boxsets to sell large numbers of units anyway. Only 5 BD boxsets have sold over 10k units (6 when SEED gets its 2nd week data on Thursday) and only 17 over 5k (see here).

Ahhh i see how it all works now, cheers.

I can't believe 3,538 people actually bought Brave10...

Not that surprising though, i've seen much worse shows selling more.

Good point, Seed Destiny is still in the top 5 best selling shows of all time and that's an awful show.

All while mediocre, yet gradually improving AGE sells ~2k a volume.

How the hell did Symphogear sell so well? I couldn't make it mast 4 episodes and I'm quite patient with most anime.

Highschool DxD has plot, and Natsume has 3 seasons (Or was it 4?), so there is no need to be surprised, infact i'm quite proud of how good Highschool DxD did, despite the fact that it deserves more.

regarding that, can you please tell me the plot of High School DXD. I don't mind spoilers. From what I've heard it only has fan service. But some people are biased. And I usually steer clear from harem unless they have a real plot.

Yeah, but you were comparing Highschool DxD to Natsume, which are two completely different genres, and one has been around for quite some time with 3 season while the other just finished airing.

I never compared Natsume to HDxD. I just said that I think Natsume deserves better sells than HDxD.

But even you have to agree that the biggest reason why HDxD is selling is the boobs.

I meant that it's nice to see a quality anime outsell the "boobies" anime, So why do you think I mentioned HDxD?

And just so you know I won't respond to any more replies, because this discussion is completely pointless and a waste of my time.

I'm not really arguing, i just asked why did you mention Highschool DxD in a completely irrelevant subject?
You seem to hate boobies, what's your story my friend? i'll give you my ears.

I think that person is saying that the main reason DXD sold was because of fanservice and boobs....oh and boob jiggles. yea I know that much. I think he/she's trying to say that without boobs and fanservice it wouldn't have sold as well. Meaning people still watch drama-ish soft-ish plot animes without boobs. I wouldn't know as I haven't watched it.

besides that, yea I saw the synopsis but I still dunno whether I should watch it. So if you, if you want, kindly just say what the whole thing is about in the anime.

Also, how much percent is plot and how much percent is fanservice?

I'm not joking here, i'm asking a question, but if you're gonna just write some overused meme joke then there is no point in continuing this conversation.

"And just so you know I won't respond to any more replies, because this discussion is completely pointless and a waste of my time"

It's really hard to answer anything seriously since your are atm obviously trolling.
And to answer your important question. No, I do not hate boobs.

phoenixalia said:

I'd say it's a good mix of both, but if you want percents... It depends really on what episode. But I'd say maybe 35 % plot and 65 % fanservice. That's atleast my opinion :)

Rinne needed more Yuri. Then the Otaku would have overlooked the the fact that the show was just a basic promotion for that one town Kamogawa.

Symphogears numbers are on par with a show that was a bit messy. However their Musical scores continue to sell really well. Yukine Chris's Character single is the 5th straight single to record a top ten showing for the series.

As crappy is the plot was, Some of the characters stories were pretty nice. Both Tsubasa and Yukine had really nice side stories that made their characters rather sympathetic. Most people still found Hibiki rather annoying though and wished Kanade would resurrect and steal her body. If you gave up after 4 episodes your really wouldn't have gotten to see Yukine Chris's story. I think she should have been the real protagonist of the series.

Issie, your typical horny asian bastard, was born with a special power, Red Dragon gear, given to him by god. There are 3 factions in a power struggle; Angels, Fallen Angels, and Demons. Issie was targeted by the fallen angels for elimination. But he was rescued by Rais Gremory, a gorgeous high ranking demon. Issie becomes Rais's "pawn", a ranking system based on chess pieces, and he fights to protect her and her other subordinates using his special powers.

On a different note. Damn, "Another" bit it big time. barely a 2K showing. Part of me thought the way the beginning of the series started and how the series ended felt like 2 different shows. I almost got the feeling that the studio saw pre-orders and decided to make it more into a slasher gorefest at the end in hopes of bolstering shock value sales.

What about Hanasaku Iroha, does it have anything of what these 3 shows have in terms of Yuri subtext?

Others could probably answer better, as I dropped it 9 or 10 eps in. It had some blatant yuri baiting (that novel delusion scene...) that was very nice for what it was, but also made pretty clear that everyone was very much hetero, as far as I watched anyway. I don't mind yuri baiting, and I don't mind hetero, but when shows try to yuri bait while also making clear it's just empty baiting and everyone is strictly hetero (and most importantly, not in hetero relationships I find engaging), I just end up feeling like I'm being used, and that feeling sours me on a show more quickly than anything else.

It had gorgeous visuals and is understandably liked by a lot of people, but I found myself completely unable to enjoy watching it and had to move on to other things, because it wasn't going to be the sort of show I'd initially hoped for. If I'm trying to be objective/balanced, I have to say it's at least worth a try, as you might feel differently - if the way the relationships are handled doesn't bother you then you might actually find quite a lot to like in it. But it's a show I'd rather forget.

Rinne has major Yuri overtones in it. There's the naked skinny dipping scene, the snuggling in bed scene, the sexual harassment of Lan, and also the hand holdings. Seriously, I was hoping they'd just start making out like "Shoujo Sect" style. However the producer flat out said there would be no romance in the series up front. I actually think that decision hurt the series. It's one thing to not have Romance, a common element in a drama series, in the show. It's another to flat out tell the audience "forget it, don't hope for anything. there won't be anything."
