Well L is indeed among the most glorified character in existence here on MAL, I'll grant you that much. But I've never heard his name praised anywhere else to be honest. Sure, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of MALfags watched Death Note purely because of him, but the anime fanbase reaches further than MAL mate. It's simply that all the L fangirls happen to reside here. The claim that everybody watched the series because of a character is ignorant in itself. Even if you're ultimately referring to the majority, it's still fallacious. |

People who don't watch anime have seen death note because of L. Fixed that for you. A lot of people who don't normally watch anime have seen DN, that is true. But nothing in particular indicates that it's solely because of L. You're arguing on a too large scale, if it'd be something like "A lot of people who don't regularly watch anime but have seen Death Note did so because of L.", you would have a bit more point. Yes, L is probably more popular than Light, that has nothing to do with this though. |

@Inconscient Major death note spoilers, dont click unless you have finished it and such.. L continues to ask Rem about Death Notes, but she continues to reveal as little information as possible in order to avoid implicating Light or Misa. Meanwhile, Misa begins to use her Death Note to kill criminals and moments later, L suspects Misa, but Light denies her involvement. Rem soon realizes that it was Light's plan all along to endanger Misa so that Rem would sacrifice herself in order to kill L. Later, Light finds L on the roof of the task force headquarters with the latter lamenting about how distant he is from other people. The two of them converse and realize how often they, like most people, lie. When the two of the return to join the rest of the task force, L reveals that he is planning on testing the fake 13 day rule by having a condemned criminal write in the Death Note. Before L can go through with the plan, Rem kills Watari and L, subsequently killing herself in the process. After secretly snatching away Rem's notebook, Light celebrates his victory in silence. After this happens, I see no point in watching death note any more if you are watching it purely because of L. Your overall point isnt wrong, its just silly to call someone ignorant whilst displaying ignorance yourself. I actually agree with your point in your argument with him, lol. |

Quote for Quote (Thank you Yahoo A) Tite Kubo himself ( the creator of bleach ) gave two reasons to calling it that. One was a symbolic reason. As the soulreapers cleanse souls, it's like they are "bleaching" their souls. Like how bleaching in a clothes sense means to remove stains and blemishes, the shinigami remove sin and corruption from the souls. The other reason he gave is because "Bleach" was the name of his favorite Nirvana (thats right, kurt kobain nirvana) album. |

He's the really emo dude that VERY easy to cosplay; hence the amount of cosplayers, not exactly his popularity (easier to get a plain white shirt, blue jeans and eyeliner than brown hair, and a school uniform that looks exactly like the one in DN.) He's with the police(-ish)trying to stop 'Kira' from continuing his (awesome) killing spree. the respond to Tiago97 as well, even before i watched the anime i watched the movie, and before i watched the movie the symbol for Death note was an apple. i didn't know L before watching the movie. character i knew on order of discovery (pre-watching) Dat apple->that dude with HUGE eyes->Misa->light Yagami->L as you can see, he was the last person i actually found out about. also, i still think an apple is the symbol for deathnote. |

Well for me it would be the following titles: -Skip Beat!: I think I thought it would be about dancing or something. -Eden of the East: I thought it was going to be something about magical/mystical ancient times. You know, garden of Eden... -Summer Wars: Loved this movie, loved the concept, I just wasn't expecting ... A cyber war against an AI and a family get together. -Princess Jellyfish: I litterally thought it was going to be about a Jellyfish princess (kind of like that anime Squid Girl). I could mention other titles, but they are more nonsensical than misleading and most of them have been said already. |

Nothing about the title 'Gundam AGE' implied what the target demographic was. The reason you feel mislead is because the Gundam franchise doesn't have a lot of preteen shows to begin with. It could have been titled anything and you would have been just as mislead. Being in Japanese is the point. You can't be mislead by a title unless you know what the title implies. |

Also, the Japs seem to use that expression far more than we do, don't they? RoCSC-006C1BST said: Maffy said: Angel Beats: Had seen the cover also and just thought it'd be a silly shoujo anime with cute girls doing boring stuff (even if they were holding weapons, thought it could have been a game)... how wrong was I again xD; Explained septillion times before. Maffy said: Steins;Gate: Expected something more demonic actually. It sounded like it was a gate to hell or something important was hidden there. Idc though since I love it<3 stein: German for stone(Google translate). Gate: well, it's a gate. A big door if you will. Now how did it inferred it meant a gate to hell or something important is beyond any and all logical reasoning. You probably would find titles such as "The Three Little Pigs" to be misleading. Not really. Firstly, it is stated that Steins;Gate has no meaning, but not until quite far into the series, and this is basically a thread about preconceptions. Even if it was just called "The Gate", it's not too much of a stretch to make that into something ominous, and seeing as most people don't Google translate everything, if you're not German, Steins can mean anything. I kind of assumed they were going along the Einstein route with sciencey time and stuff, and wahey, I was right, but it's really not half as stupid as you're making it sound. Misleading Adjective: 1. Giving the wrong idea or impression: "your article contains a number of misleading statements". Assumption Noun: 1. A thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof: "they made certain assumptions about the market". Clearly not everyone google things, which would've solved over half the "misleading" titles mentioned here. If you don't remotely know the meaning of a word and yet make up some idea about the meaning of it, without ever basing it upon any concrete information or solid evidence, it's an assumption. Considering all they did was to show the title with some flashy animation, and whilst a person watched the anime Okabe would mention randomly, often with a joking and sometimes smiling expression, it was the choice of Steins;Gate, with everyone all the time dismissing as non-sense, one might be led to believe it was somehow important, but ominous or even demonic, it IS way too much of a stretch. Now not saying what you thought of the show isn't important, but what you assumed has no relation to if the title Steins;Gate might mean something sinister. If it had like a skull near it or if it was only mentioned when bad things happened I would understand, trouble is that it doesn't. Summary: Can mean anything=/=something demonic or ominous. Wow just saw this actually and I'd answer to you RoCSC-006C1BST BUT these nice ppl did for me so I won't say much just who says ppl have to ASSUME things a certain ways? I ASSUMED thing like that and I thought that was the point? I don't need to explain to YOU how my mind works and tbh I could care less if you agree or not. And also, I didn't SEARCH for Steins;Gate. Ppl told me abt it thus I saw no cover, not how it was written or designed and ever thought that MAYBE I have a reason as to why I actually thought that? So please stop being such a close minded jerk<3 As for Angel Beats... I'm sry did the topic say "Please post only JUST unique anime and we don't care what you think?" I think not so this time, just stop being a jerk ^-^ Assumptions don't work in a one way logic >_> *rolls eyes* |
