According to the Shogakukan official website, Hata Kenjiro will suspend the serialization of "Hayate no Gotoku!" from January 4th (Chapter 351) until February 29th. He said "I need to prepare for a very important project at the sacrifice of the weekly serialization. The details of what I'm working on will be announced within this year."

I already knew this was coming since it was announced in Chapter 351, but hearing it from dtshyk makes it painfully official.

I actually doubt this, because there really is no reason why he couldn't work on the third season in tandem with writing weekly chapters, and neither the first or second season needed this kind of treatment at all.

But I'm really curious as to what's so important that made Hata-sensei not only but his weekly series on Hiatus, but also enabled him to convince his editors to take a 2 month hiatus.

Doesn't this stuff usually happen when female mangaka need to take maternity leave or something?

not only that but the manga itself wasn't really going anywhere. the story seems to have taken a hiatus anyways so this doesn't really bother me much. but as long as it isn't the end of the manga i suppose he can take time to do whatever he needs to do.

I say do it, since the manga has had a distinct lack of anything exciting happening for the past dozen or more chapters. Sure, its back to the usual style of HnG, but I like it a whole lot better when he actually gives his work direction and motion like he did with the Athena and past arcs. Give the mangaka a well deserved break and some time to get his thoughts together, I say!

I've been waiting for this.

Also, if Hayate's mangaka needs a little time to get his thoughts straight, it's no big deal. Since it's not an indefinite hiatus.

Manga creator Kenjirou Hata reported on Tuesday that his Hayate the Combat Butler series might be about 60% complete. Hata was responding to a Twitter follower who asked about how far the manga is into its story.

He had reported last week that the manga would go on hiatus until this year's 13th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, which will ship on February 29, due to a "task" he has to do. He clarified on his Twitter account that the hiatus is not due to illness or exhaustion.

lol basically he could finish it in 50-100 chapter instead he milk it for another 300^^

Not really milking. We still have to wrap up the Royal Garden/King's Jewel arc, turn Nagi into a respectable Human being, figure out what the deal with Nagi's mom is, delve into Maria's backstory (she hasn't had any character development yet), and, biggest of all, sort out Hayate's harem. I wouldn't be surprised if, at Hayate's pace, it could easily take 200 chapters to do all that. It's only been a little over 6 months in manga time, so it seems like the entire story will span the length of a year.
