Hard to say, since I generally do not favor slice-of-life. Hmm, I guess I would have to say Clannad :D

Don't you just hate how there is almost no progress in those standard SoLs?
I"m watching Lucky Star for the sake of not falling behind on others, but it pretty much gives me a headache if I have to watch multiple episodes in one go.

That is exactly why I don't like slice-of-life series. I'm not saying that I don't like any. I will include Kimagure Orange Road as a good one, but it has other genres incorporated into it. If it's mainly a slice-of-life, like say Honey and Clover (yea I said it), then it bores me to tears. H&C is supposed to be a comedy, romance, & drama... but the characters and anti-climatic plot lines really got on my nerves.

Haven't seen to too many slice of life anime, and the ones that I did see were more focused on comedy or romance, so they weren't that boring. I liked The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Welcome to the NHK, Suzuka.
About Lucky Star, I watched it subed and it felt like reading a manga then watching an anime with all the talking and lack of action. It was funny, there were a lot of jokes about different manga or anime like Pokemon, Gundam, Full Metal Panic. But there were also some boring episodes.

I liked Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo and Welcome to the NHK a lot, mainly since they aren't typical slice-of-life. It also isn't their primary genre obviously. A pure SoL is boring as hell.

yeah, you are right... the problem with SoL anime is that they don't have a plot or something to keep you interested... maybe it's because of poor writing, I don't know..

I most certainly wouldn't say Dantalian no Shoka is a slice-of-life, but strangely it is a mentioned genre on its anime page.

Bugsquasher,
Dantalian is a typical slice-of-life, it's just unusually dark.

Dantalian is simply fantashit, at least the anime, and is far away from being a slice of life, don't mind what the page says.

Btw there's a ton of slice of life that are awesome, in the first post i've written Aria and Planetes, but there's a lot of great titles that aren't already listed like Spice and Wolf, Kuragehime, Nodame Cantabile, Usagi Drop, now Chihayafuru and if the go more on the comic/comedy side there really no end to them.

why not? slice at it's best.
if not, then at least Spice and Wolf, Nodame Cantabile and the above mentioned Planetes would not be slices either (though they are, more or less).

I would have to agree with Iwasawa, with slice of life I expect a little more ordinary than Dantalion no Shoka, which features a war (not slice of life), unusual events (not typical of slice of life) and a plot (which is definitely not typical of slife of life). The show qualifies more for mystery and fantasy.

Nodame Cantabile for example is a typical slice of life. They make music every day with only slight changes in the atmosphere, almost no unusual events. With no apparent plot than 'becoming a well known maestro', I'd say this show's primary genre is slice-of-life. Or maybe comedy, hard to tell.

So above all anything made by Junichi Sato
Aria - above all :)
Sketchbook: Full Color's - this one is funny as first time I've watched it I gave it around 7, and now is on my 3rd place in all series
Tamayura: Hitotose - anime of 2011 BTW

than those who are not pure slice-of-life
Azumanga Daioh
Kamichu! - brilliant yet unknown a bit
Spice and Wolf
Mahoraba - another unknown one, here it mixes a bit with romance and quite unortodox harem
Someday's Dreamers
Sora no Woto - don't let it fool you, only character design is similar to K-On!

That paragraph translates as an extremely boring show to me ------ If you hadn't have put that it has a lot of comedy in it, I would have just dropped it from my PTW list. I've heard it has a lot of romance so I was getting ready to start it. I just usually don't like pure slice-of-life -- as I'm trying to escape mundanity when I watch something. I won't say all sol's are bad... I just don't like most of them. (like Aria - I know... people will hate me for this one lol =P)

as 100% fan of Aria I can perfectly understand why you may not like it (I think) - what was always weird for me were people who were shoveling it down you throat and claiming that if you don't like, you are an abomination... I simply don't understand - not to mention that it's a bit contradictory to nature of the show :P
well I don't watch those for plot or some action, not even for some "wisdom" - simply for that pleasant feeling of "awwwww" and it gave me usually before sleep, as well as series like Sketchbook or Tamayura (and recently Ah! My Goddess)

on the other side Nodame or Honey and Clover were simply boring to watch - ok Nodame had those nice comedic parts but somehow it didn't work

BTW does K-On! counts as slice of life? I started to rewatch it... and damn that thing is good!

I watched A-Channel before half a month and I gotta say it's very underrated.People need to stop bitchin' about how nothing is happening (because in Lucky Star there is a whooooole lot of a storyline, yeah - or maybe in Haruhi! Wrong again? Both of them are so overrated and that's what i don't like) , how Yuuko is a copy of Mio from K-On and hear this - it imitates slice of life poorly.I don't know how can you do that, because SoL is a SoL - not much is happening.People need to shut up,get over their stupid complexes and stop giving their opinion and thinking someone else cares. No - it's not gonna be another Lucky Star or Haruhi - get it through your thick fanboy heads.

P.S. Sorry if i am being overly critical
P.P.S - I really like A-channel - it's so lighthearted and good-natured, it's great when your day has been busy and you just wanna watch something to chill out.

second season of K-On! ahhh it has some nice moments and enough dose of Mugi (my favorite pervert)

@Jori-kun
I understand

and one more position to the list
GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class - another series that no-one heard of [ok I write about it sometimes :P]
it's technically not pure slice of life (rather school comedy with some additions), but parts concerning topics of art or design... like they can take 1/4 of episode and talk about what is pictogram, what effects you can get by using different types of paint, go around theory of colors.
If only by this it's closer to life than any other art themed series.
