| The situation was a macguffin. Who killed him doesn't matter so much as the internal struggle facing the characters dealing with having lost the guy. |

| The homicide was a figment of Konakawa's imagination, a sort of metaphor for the survivor's guilt that Konakawa felt for not finishing the movie, and for his friend dying after being accepted to film school. |
| As others have said, it doesn't matter who did it, it's more that the case rekindled memories in the detective who had suppressed anguish over his friend's passing. Contrary to the post above me, the homicide was real and Paprika congratulates Konakawa for catching the culprit in her email letter. The implication being, once the detective cleared his mind of his worries, he could focus on the case properly and do his job. |
