Today we'll be making a time capsule of anime for, let's say, 200 years in the future.

Here's the rules:

1. Pick a single anime that hasn't been picked yet
2. Explain why it should be included

Some reasons an anime should be included are
- Historically Significant
- Newcomer Friendly (the future may not have anime)
- Unique Animation
- Unique Story
- The Best at What it Does

I'll start with Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, as you can really feel the 2000s oozing from it, and with great animation. It's a concise story that's easy to get into, and I think it shows off shonen in a good light.

I don't understand why you would send Anime into the future? They already have all the Anime from the past.

Anyway I pick Evangelion (historically significant)
This dance is the pinnacle of human achievement.

Clannad + Clannad: After Story (The Best at What it Does)

even in 200 years, family exists and still holds importance to any individual.
also in 200 years, they'll consume any anime so the art won't be too off-putting for them

Lucky Star

It's basically a time capsule in its' own right with all the references. But, it's also a genre defining anime.

Honey and clover.

Revolves around life of college students. Extremely wholesome, deep and profound anime. It will make you laugh, cry, think and you will end up falling in love with it. Lovable characters and story which stays with you. Relatable if ever were/are a university student. Lots of drama, romance and comedy, perfect recipe to create a favourite.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

Digimon

Cuz it's a great series with lots of depth for a kids anime which can be enjoyed by kids an adults alike and so should never be forgotten :')
What debating with DigiCat is like according to APolygons2
That's why I thought a discussion would be pointless. It doesn't feel like a debate. It feels like I'm playing chess and somehow lose to an uno reverse card after loosing all my monopoly money lol

I would say Vinland Saga. It has generational lessons and moments. It has a unique story and newcomer friendly. I also think the no enemies concept is one generations will always need.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya as it was a major cultural phenomenon of its time and it still holds to be one of the most unique experiences anime has to offer. Just make sure to stick in the time capsule the fact of watching it in broadcast order!

PERFECT BLUE - HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT & THE BEST AT WHAT IT DOES

You can't talk about movies without including Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue. a film that combines fantasy and reality, dives into themes of obsession, identity, and uses dream sequences and bizarre visuals to create a sense of discomfort that mimics Mima's mental state. It also explores the exploitation of young idols, the media's objectification of women, and the implications of being in the public eye. This movie was way ahead of its time and still relevant to this day.

200 years in the future? Unless you plan on shooting this time capsule to orbit in space around the globe even optical discs such as DVD and Blu-rays will only have the life expectancy at most 100 years under optimal conditions. Other forms of current video media storage would last less. By the time anyone would uncover this Anime you likely plan on burying in the ground after 200 years it will be completely unplayable. lol

I have a VHS tape of "Akira" that I only played a few times and the tape has severe magnetic deterioration only after 3 decades since it's release. Meaning it barely even plays anymore and I had it stored pretty well over the years.

Shoujo Kakumei Utena (1997) has unique story and animation, and is historically important as one of the genre defining (and defying) shoujo shows. It's also easily the most intelligent anime ever made, a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. Whenever I thought I understood it, another layer unraveled.

Sounds fun, why not.

Koe no Katachi. In the age where jokes are getting too extreme, it's important to note that things you think you do as a joke may be serious for someone on the receiving end.
