I haven't catch up with the recent chapters; last time I checked, they're still stuck on that round for years.

But it still sad to see it end. I guess it's about time though...

The anime is a masterpiece, one of the best out there. I haven't read the manga but this is big news. I can only hope for a anime sequel but I don't think it'll happen.

The longest mahjong match in manga history finally comes to a close...

I would like a second season of the anime, but I don't think there is enough demand for it.

Holy shit, it's finally ending. I thought it was going to never end or possibly be stuck at hiatus until Fukumoto died. I guess I know what I'll pick up soon :D

Wait, if it started in April 1992, it would make it nearly 25 years, not 27.

I should know, since I was born in March '92 and I'm only going to be 25 next month. Stop making me feel older than I am!

I'm sorry, I think the source saying "27 years" is just roughly because April 1992 issue to February 2018 issue (both dates are based on the issue number, not the actual release date, which is hard to find online now) is about 26 years and we just mentioned "27" according to the source without counting. I've tried fixing the first post to make it a bit more sense.

won't be surprised if we get a sequel that takes place between this and ten.

I hope so, because FKMT said Washizu's arc wasn't the end of Akagi (welp now it is, even with 8 chapters to do stuff -still as much as nakai/ichikawa/yagi arcs but meh- it'll pretty much be the end of Akagi) like one trillion times in interviews and talk shows. There's still so much stuff to tell, like how he met and played against Murota and Ginji, the 3 years run etc... I really wanted to see 23 year old Akagi too.

If there's no sequel Akagi will be the first prequel to not be a prequel :/

(Also if there's really a sequel (wishful thinking), it'll at least be bi-weekly and go faster than Akagi.)

there is also live action for the match before washizu

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-07-27/akagi-manga-inspires-2nd-live-action-series-in-october/.119411

the previous 10 episode live action drama also adapted the entire washizu match until almsot the end of the match, the last super dragged out snail paced final round pretty well. so for anime watcher who want to continue but too lazy to read manga, just go watch live action, it's much better.
