I never said the show was boring but the last couple of episode have just been plain dull. I expected more from this show in terms of mystery and character development. Loss is a serious subject but literally nothing happened in this episode, but god forbid anyone has a different opinion than you

What do you mean by expecting more character development? Do you mean an increased number of developed characters or do you think that there hasn't been much development of our main characters? Either way I'm not seeing where the lack of development is other than a few mysterious characters that i'm sure we'll learn about in the coming episodes. This entire episode was spent delving in deeper into characters and even something as subtle Sakurako stopping Shoutarou to tell him to take care is development if you ask me. And then from that point until the end of the episode we got cliffhangers telling us that things are coming to a head. I wouldn't say these characters are underdeveloped, we just didn't get the full picture right off the bat like some shows do and the fact that we're still waiting for the full pictures gives you major hints as to the overall arc of what the show is supposed to be about. We've been following these characters and learning about them and those around them little by little and we'll be getting the full picture soon here. There's nothing wrong with you having a different opinion, I just think people would appreciate it more if you came in with something more debatable like "After this episode, I'm convinced I dislike this show's style of story telling because so and so", we'd debate the so and so probably and it'd make for a good discussion. I think people are tired of having to see people come in and simply call the show boring because if you haven't found enjoyment in the show after all these episodes then what's the point in continuing to watch each week?

In terms of character development there has been little in the past few weeks. We still don't know enough about Sakurako and they are leaving it pretty late in the series. In fact we still know very little about the relationship between the MC's I watch anime for good story lines and to be entertained. In the past few episodes it's failed on both counts. Boring is a generic term but for want of a better word that's how I felt

I watched this show expecting something different and in some ways it's delivered but it seems to have gone from mystery to a SOL show. I hope the series has a strong finish and answers some outstanding questions.

You are expecting the wrong thing then. This was never a pure mystery/detective story. Did you never see the line at the beginning of every opening song?

"A story dedicated to those trapped in the past"

In case you haven't noticed that has been exactly the theme this past few arcs starting from that supposedly suicidal lady that Yuriko saw at the festival. That's why I also believe this story is targeted for more mature audiences since this definitely won't appeal to the mainstream taste. The mysteries itself are more like the spices to the main theme.

I've also accepted that not all mysteries would be solved in this 1 cour alone considering there have already been EIGHT novels published. I don't suppose it's possible to cover everything in 12 episodes and I'd be very pleased if they do make a 2nd season to continue the story rather than rushing everything now.

This episode was much better than the usual mystery case one. It was a really good slice of life episode that reminds me of Aria.

People are hating on Soutarou here but he's just a high schooler with a crush on that stupid girl so give him a break lol

The girls are more infuriating here. Yuriko just treats him as a link to Sakurako and Sakurako is treating him as a replacement or her stupid dead brother

thats not really nice, esp if i was treated as a replacement for someone i'd possibly never talk to that person again

It was a mellow episode, I appreciated the last part and felt really bad for Shoutarou's grandmother and Sakurako's governess. I didn't cry although I lost both my parents and grandparents from illnesses, hell, even the book "The Fault in Our Stars" didn't make me cry. There are just times when you've cried so much that there are no more tears left.

That dog though, it's fucking glowing. Like a lightbulb.

Interesting how the 3 grannys mentioned earlier converged here in one episode.
Sakurako very worried, about what?
"sensei" is... the guy in bed? Flower sensei? Or butterfly guy?
Several ep ends show a random scene not explained in its next episode... it's like throwing a phalanx of a different person every week. The pieces need to connect somehow. Sure it'll be explained in later episode or seasons, but there should be a better place to drop foreshadowing besides the end of every episode.
Yuriko deserves to be mc.

I believe it's something in Sakurako's past that will be reveled soon enough. In each ep. at the ending we got to see a glimpse of it. I wonder what it's about. It makes me really wonder when she say: "It's time to bring it to an end". I really wonder what she has to bring to an end. I suspect it's about a person that's close to her. Maybe relative since in last two ep. we have seen her at a hospital. ^^ This thing will make me watch this series throughout (although I would done it anyway)

Nice to see Yuriko-chan's comeback. Her grandmother talking about her getting in love. Yup she has found the right one, Shoutarou. Though I also ship him with Sakurako-san more.

Mm, I actually quite enjoyed this episode, at least more than the "mystery" ones, though I'm not quite sure why they would decide to have an episode like this now :O Oh well, Yuri and her grandma were pretty cute, but it seems kind of silly that she would ask them over to try and see which painting she'd get for her wedding ... that's so random lol, how could they possibly know? :P Plus it seems as "emotional" as Shoutarou is he's awfully dumb about some things, I mean OBVIOUSLY his grandma told him to get pudding because he was the one who liked it! Ugh ... I just want to smack him sometimes. It's nice to see Sakurako noticing that Gran had some trouble standing up too. She cares! :P
Anyway, really interested to see where that bit at the ending is leading to. The butterfly wings again and "sensei" ... hmm! :O Oh and I'm glad to be able to say that dreaded "Sakurako putting on the gloves" scene has been nowhere to be seen the past couple of episodes :D

Kind of a slow episode. though I think it's building up to something else. I'd like to know

1) who Sakurako keeps talking to in the hospital and 2) her past like her younger brother and how it relates to Shotarou. It seems pretty obvious right now but I would like to see how it comes together.

Hmm, it was kinda meh... again. Surely they could have been better way to develop characters' backgrounds. And at this point I really hope they won't go with another grandma's death, it would way too cliche.
Slice of life was good but it felt like they were forcing viewers to get emotional over those grandmas stroies which didn't work. Should they only hinted it for a few minutes it would be a lot better.

The ending was interesting but it felt out of place like they realized they need some cliffhanger to keep viewer's attention span after such slow episode.

And can we please get started with this brother/sister story already? They are hinting at it maybe way too long.

Really loosing my faith in this series. It really seem like even its creators doesn't know where to take it.

Slow paced this time around, it was kind of interesting to know about the grandmothers and of course seeing Sakurako and her Gran like that was amusing.

I'm definitely waiting for an explanation on the girl with the wings in the end there and the shady guy from a few episodes ago.

I just get really annoyed how people find this show boring. People started watching this expecting like badass mysteries and stuff but this show really is more about death and dealing with the pain of losing someone. It's much more of a dark take on slice of life anime than anything else and I wish people would stop expecting something else. This episode was another great one. Amazing feels for those who understand the pain of losing a grandparent.

Agreed. Found this episode really sentimental too for me since my grandmother was always the only one i could depend on in the end.

And all the kids here saying that there was no progress or character development you must be blind or are just trying to look cool. We got to see sakurako's caring side, more focus on side characters like sakurako's grandma, more background info on shoutaro, a more naughty side of yuriko and a set up for the next arc. No progress my ass. Whats more is that this show was dedicated to those trapped in the past. It is supposed to show more or less real life scenarios and how our mcs deal/get over them. If you want a teenage boy having boobpower against demons go try other shows.

Dude, either you are lucky you you haven't lost a dear one recently or you are one cold hearted fellow.

A better question: Why are you still watching and complaining about this "boring" show in its 9th episode instead of doing something more productive?

-----------

All this talk about Shotarou's dying grandma made me cry and I'm 27. I guess I still haven't gotten over the death of my grandma two years ago. She was also terminally ill and in pain all the time and this episode opened all these old wounds that I had of
these painful days.

You aren't the only one man. I'm 31 and just lost my last grandmother last month. I don't think she was in too much pain but I can never tell these things. Watching this one hurt, as did the one about the girl's grandmother dying.

I liked this episode :). Love Sakurako's sweet tooth. And that granny rocks!

Had I watched this show episode per episode, I probably would've felt unsatisfied at times. I do personally think it's a bit overrated based on what I've seen so far.

Luckily, I'm watching all of it in one go (and this is exactly for the purpose of not getting annoyed by possible fillers or long talking sessions).

I'm really hoping they will uncover the link between Sotaro & Shotaro, and also reveal who that girl at the end was. She seemed a bit emotionally imbalanced. "I will fly to you sensei". Planned suicide maybe?

Who knows.

Same here. Also, the show still hasn't explained many important things and maybe the only one that seems relevant to this point: What's the connection between Sakurako and Shoutaro? I mean, they're not dating and they aren't relatives, also Sakurako was mentioned to be engaged, so how did they even meet each other and why are they always together?

Depending on how the last episodes work this could be either a decent anime or it could keep the same way as the last few episodes were (bad but not as horrible as others mention).

Anyways, I liked the episode but the show still doesn't work for me. 3/5 for the episode and 4/10 so far for the anime.

Sakurako keeps him around as a replacement goldfish for her deceased brother, because they look so alike and even have nearly identical names. And Shoutarou sticks around because he's an idiot.

Hahahaha that got me to laugh +1 (I have been wondering about this too though).

Shoutarou is a bit slow isn't he as it really wasn't much of a mystery. At least Sakurako calls him out on his idiocy, but it makes it a bit hard to become invested in the "mystery's" when they're hardly mysteries at at all.
