Spotlight Anime: Houkago no Pleiades (TV)

(...) It's a simple magical girl anime, but related with space.

Five girls, that apparently don't know each other, but have a connection in the past, get together to find the pieces of the spaceship of a Pleiades inhabitant. For this they travel through stratosphere riding these supersonic magic brooms. However, they have an antagonist that searches for the pieces to himself. What now?

The story is simple and gives off a good vibe, with a positivist position towards life that is always good to see. It's the kind of story that totally depends on its characters, that probably needed more episodes to get to their apex of development. There is an episode dedicated to each girl, but that seems insufficient to establish their relations and to give a more definite way to the story. So, even though they are very nice and that we win some affection to them, their characterisation is not able to establish them as icons and the anime, in general, seems short and incomplete.

If there is something amazing in this anime it is, without doubt, the art. With lovely deisngs, the characters are desireble. But, above all, there are the scenic visions of space that surprise and wonder us. They aredrawn with great detail, giving space to very beautiful moments that make this trip worthwile.

Musically, we have very cute songs, but they are not distinguishable from other animes of the genre.

Considering this anime is kind of a publicity spot to the creators of Subaru cars (Fuji Heavy Industries) it's a curious example among the genre. I ended up not understanding well what they wanted to commercialize, but they transmit a message of goodness and hope that works quite well. As for the rest, there are other examples of mahou shoujo that deserve better recommendations
