That just means more people have standards nowadays.

If the heroine doesn't wear blue string, it isn't up to standard

But if they watch something from the past, they're more lenient with it. Like if I told someone to watch Maison Ikkoku or Futari Ecchi, they would justify that the sexism in those series are okay because it was an older series.

What sexism in Futari Ecchi? :o

What sexism in Futari Ecchi? :o

The way he mistreats his wife and treats her like a sexual object.
Let me remind you that it took 150 chapters for him to let her reach orgasm.

He dreams about having sex with their unborn child, people have told me.

What was sexist in Maison Ikkoku? And I doubt anyone would try to justify it in Futari Ecchi's case, since it is you know, porn.

To be fair, they're both pretty stupid and uneducated about sex. As I recall, she doesn't even want to have sex in the daytime. It's not a case of him willfully denying her something because she's a woman, just a case of him being his usual dumbass self.

That last part though... well, thank god I dropped it before that.

Originality /=/ good

I could make a tv show about a time-traveling dinosaur that travels the ruins of time in search of chili but that wouldn't get me many points if I relied only on the idea.

It's all about the execution.

Sometimes the date of release didn't favor the show that were premiered. I think Code Geass R2 is one of them. Maybe it was released in Spring 2008 where Legend of the Galactic Heroes were very popular among English-speaking anime fans including us. To this day there still aren't many people can appreciate it. Of course Code Geass hatedom still strong even after many years later.

Another anime I liked but suffered bad release date is Taishou Yakyuu Musume which was premiered in Summer 2009, exactly the same season as Bakemonogatari. Another unfortunate event it was shown right after K-On! ended, which tricked most of its potential viewers into thinking it going to be another moeblob show like K-On! with baseball.

Code Geass R2 didn't have "timing" problems, it had "problems" problems. R2 diverted from everything that made the first season good. The jump in logic between the first season to second season was astonishingly bad, not to mention the addition of COMPLETELY unnecessary fan service (and bad fan service at that) just for the sake of having it. The entire production of R2 was a sham to appease the "otaku community" and that in itself destroyed it from being a good anime.

An anime I think had some bad timing was Hanasaku Iroha. I found it to be an OUTSTANDING series, but it seemed to go relatively unnoticed due to coming out the same season as Steins;Gate, Gintama', Ano Hana, and Nichijou.

I'd also say the same thing about Shinsekai yori. It came out the same season as Psycho-Pass, Chuunibyou, Gintama' Enchousen, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure...just to name a few. Well, that and I think in terms of depth, I think it was behind the times in regards to catering to anime fans. I don't like to say it, but anime fans nowadays seem more attracted to simple shows with simple plots and Shinsekai yori addressed social commentary no one wanted to see or talk about in this day and age. If this anime came out in the 90s or early 2000s, it might have been a smash hit. Now? Not so much. Well, another thing that turned a lot of people off were the yuri and yaoi (mostly the yaoi) elements that played an integral part to the show, but so many people were so turned off by "two dudes kissing" that they didn't bother to give it the time of day to understand why it was happening. Again, you can probably attribute this to the simple mindedness of anime fans nowadays.

He is talking about timing within the anime. The title was a little misleading though, I thought the same

They were trying to be educational with it, is why I have a problem with it.

In Maison, the main female is sexualized objectively, iirc. And forcing the main female to follow traditional female roles.

Doesn't matter if they're being dumb. The way the story is portrayed is extremely offensive to my intelligence. They're both dumb prudes.

Shinsekai yori was overshadowed by SAO

It could have done better sales imo
And the budget is mostly thrown to SAO

Implying the troglodytes that like SAO would appreciate the masterpiece that is Shinsekai Yori.

Because anime is just a popularity contest. Let's all just be sheep and like what the masses likes without thinking on our own.

Well it wasn't popular back when it aired in 2007 (I think, don't quote me on that), and it's only popular on MAL. I never see it mentioned anywhere else.
Do you have anything to back that up? Because I can assure you it's not true.

Every community I've been to, Baccano is one of the most popular and talked about anime. Literally everyone I know IRL who watches anime has either seen Baccano or at the very least is well aware of its existence. When people bring up 'Best dubs' on any site, people always mention Baccano. Both the show and its dub are constantly praised by many people high up in the community.

If it's that high, don't you think it's an indication that it's a popular series in general? If no one outside of this site talks about it, do you think it would have gotten into the top 50 of a site with an active user base and literally tens of thousands of shows?

Well looking at your profile, your probably expecting Gundam mecha battles or robots upgrading to become powerful.

It was unoticed in 2007 according to digibro. It was only later that it got huge recognition.

Anime is good, fucking deal with it.

That doesn't really matter much now though. I doubt it would have been any more popular if it came out at a later date.

And it CERTAINLY didn't stop it from becoming popular later on when Funimation dubbed it into English.
