Recently, the people in charge of MAL (Craveonline) decided to disable IMG tags in BBcode for a limited but unknown time, read here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1341369&show=0 What is this fix? As IMG code is disabled, normally you won't be able to see images posted in the forum, clubs, comments, or signatures. But this script by Veriti (who also made the popular Blink! generator and Alpha layout) will fix your browser so you can see images again as if they were never disabled in the first place! Keep in mind only you and others with the script installed can see images. Its the same one we used when this last happened in 2013/2014. [u]How to install![/u] Its fast and easy to install this script- it only takes seconds! Firefox First you need to install the Greasemonkey add-on to Firefox. Go to this page and click the green install button to start. You may have to restart Firefox after: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/ When done, you can go to this page and press the green Install button and the script to restore IMG will be installed to your Firefox browser: http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/410598 When you go back to MAL and refresh the page, you should see images again. Test your browser View our front page to see if you see multiple images again: http://myanimelist.net/clubs.php?cid=19736 MAL still sometimes glitches (swaps) single images Me and at least one other person have noticed that sometimes MAL still swaps a single image on pages, I notice this sometimes with the last image on a page, but not always, it very randomly happens for me- not sure why or what makes it still do that but the script isn't made to fix that particular problem, and still restores the majority of images anyways. | Hey guys! Since MAL fixed the IMG issue, you can remove this script completely. However, they done it in a way that makes image loading slow (at least for me): first your page has to load without user images, then they collect all the URLs from img tags, send it to the server to check after 3s and only after this your images might load. They may not if your page has lots of lengthy img links because they use request type which has a short size limit (you can probably bombard clubs and threads by posting lots of imgs in one tag). This also reduces performance as browsers cannot perform effective parallelization when loading images. I find the overhead from all this shit annoying. I'm not dumb to enter my password into non-MAL login boxes while here, and I don't see the reason why should adequate people suffer from jerk that comes here at most few times a year. So I made another script which would substitute image links on the fly, even before the page is fully loaded. http://torn-pages.uk.to/experimental/mal_img_booster.user.js Just be cautious when entering your password (or use password manager - I'm using LastPass) |

| @Satiriques No, the whole trouble with img tags was because the "hacker" added fake images that caused another login window to pop-up which looks like this:  (depends on the browser), and some users typed their passwords here giving them to that hacker. MAL stuff tries to protect users from their stupidity by this excessive checks which sometimes ruin experience (and if you forgot the months without img tag, it was all because of this). I'm suppressing the checks they've added for a performance gain because I find the slowdown they made annoying. I'm sharing it freely if I am not alone on this, but I want whoever uses it to understand the trade-off. |

I noticed this image limit when I saw my premade layouts gallery topic which has over 200 pics, is still currently down even after Mal fixes. I tested this bombarding tactic here by posting the pics here, and its true. I posted a spoiler button that had like 200 pics in it, and it removed every image in the topic even sigs in other people's posts. I don't want to remove future and past pics in this topic tho in case someone wants to see them tho, so I've removed the "img bomb". I wonder will it become against the rules now to post too pics and "kill" a thread's images? Not to mention, this oversight KILLS all galleries. Hey not a problem tho, since this community never uses galleries as it doesn't revolve around an image-based medium. Oh wait it totally does- ANIME AND MANGA! btw the limit is about 170 pics (not exactly sure but close). |
