So the BD release is out for preorder and I saw a little text saying:

Blu-ray discs include the whole 1st season: “UNCUT” Episodes #00 - #12 (13 episodes total)

Then three pictures of unseen scenes. One being Rin fixing the glass at the start of the anime

Yes we know that.
Every episode has one or two scenes cut. And the epilepsy modifications. And the violence tone-down. BDs will be full uncut episode.

Don't want to sound like an ass, but... that's old news. Like, they announced some scenes that were missing and will be featured in the BDs the day they aired.

Well, I already saw that second pic on their twitter account one day after episode 2 aired. The first one could be from the Prologue (RM talk was cut but shown in the pre-screening event) and the third one... well, you don't see much, so it's hard to guess. Might also be episode 2.

Tv runtime: 390 min
BD runtime: 480 min

Is the additional runtime all going to be additional scenes, or is that combined with superfluous stuff like commentary and the like?

I wouldn't be surprised if they made something like the Einzbern Consultation Rooms again. Basically, animated Tiger Dojos.

Inelastic demand and price. You are not Aniplex's target audience, so they won't care. The price is pretty normal in Japan. 85 cents per minute is a decent deal.

It's just tough for me to justify getting this, as much as I like the franchise. I mean, I got a PS4 for pretty much the same price and there is obviously a lot more you can get out of a console when compared to a 13 episode TV series. Would love to get it, though....

I'm sure as soon as the English dub is out, you can afford the local BDs without being too upset about how much money you just threw out for half a series.

Probably not. In FZ's case, disc-content was the same as far as I know, but American BDs usually have a worse video and audio quality. Other stuff like the drama cd was also missing, but whatever. That's good enough for approximately half the price and an additional English dub, if one cares about that.

Sorry but at that price I won't be able to contribute toward the "100k". I already spent part of the money I would have spent on those BDs on a figma of Saber, F/SN Archer, F/Z Archer, and Irisiviel, and I still have some remaining to spend on some more figmas.

Obvously I'm not their target audience, I'm not American. I can download a movie for 1 euro and some blu-rays cost 400 dollars? Yeah, if it's just for collectors who have no issues setting money in fire, I'm definitely not their target audience. I still do have the right to comment on it, however.

I was originally excited to buy these imports after how much I love my Fate/Zero box sets, but I just don't enjoy this anime enough to spend what would now be close to $850 on it. Kind of annoyed they decided to add a pretty wall scroll for this and Fate/Zero had NOTHING though.

I'll just wait for Aniplex USA's inevitable limited editions

As weird as it's going to be adjusting to dubs after becoming so familiarized with FSN's Japanese voice cast via the VN, I really, really can't wait for dubs on this one. I need to be able to appreciate that gorgeous animation which is hard to do with so much reading. Plus, I'm interested in seeing how a dub handles the script.

My only concern is how long it's going to take to get dubbed.

Given how much money people spend on beer/smoking/ other useless shit this isn' t really that big of a deal. I don't drink, I don't smoke; to me that's a lot of money saved per year. I hardly play video games either, I think there is probably only 2 games i'm excited for this year. Most of my money goes to school, clothes, food, and random things.

They varied between 10-25 minutes each I believe. All 3 weren't included in the first set, but I think they'd be able to do a lot more with Taiga Dojo anyway.

Finally found a fellow economist.

If you guys want to buy licensed BD at cheaper price, just wait a few months or a year. The price will come down drastically. Time is essentially worth money.

OR just watch the subs for BD later lol.

While Ufotable's quality is certainly top notch, I don't know why their BD releases are so damn expensive. Even with some quality improvement (and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall the quality getting much better anyway) and a few extra scenes, it's way expensive. Let alone the fact that it's just the first cour, not the entire series.

I mean, I buy games all the time, but there's no way in hell I'm getting my hands on one of these. It's enough to pre-order 7-8 AAA games. And you get the full game, not just half of it.

It's not expensive in Japan. ufotable's releases aren't any more expensive than other studios'. Anime is a niche market, yes, even in Japan, and there is an inelastic demand, so to be the most lucrative and profitable, they need to adjust the prices.

As I've said last page already, wait for the local BDs or import the American BDs or so when they come out, if you aren't willing to pay the price.

It's probably because FSN's buyers are more price inelastic than other fans, in North America. You will get it if you learn about economics/business.

And as others have said, this price is not much more expensive than Japanese new BD release prices.
