This manga is simply amazing. From the character development, foreshadowing, the atmosphere it was resonating, the amazing cast, the story and art itself. Throughout this journey of reading this manga, i had my jaw drop and my mind blown with the constant obstacles our beloved tragic protagonist kaneki had to endure. Very few mangakas can actually make a reader feel or even relate to the main character/characters to this extent and Ishida-sensei is one of those few. I am definitely looking forward to reading re |

I read this manga has the chapters came out and I always knew Kaneki would come back somehow. People lack the ability to use their brains sometimes. They merely jumped thr gun and underestimated Ishida's writing. |

Not gonna lie from about chapter 80. I tuned out of the manga. I just could not really focus on it and enjoy it as much as the first couple of arcs. I'm not sure if I will enjoy :Re, I always thought the investigator side of the story is dull. Took me too long to finish this manga considering I first started reading it before the anime was even announced. |

Meh, I can't really say I was too into the final arc of the manga with the final battle at Anteiku. Hopefully we get some insight in Re. I did enjoy reading this for the most part, it was better than the anime. I'll give it a 8.75/10 for now. |

The aftermath of the intense Anteiku Raid shook both Investigators and Ghouls to the core. Gori reveals that he really was a fangirl of Amon and is deeply saddened by his death while Akira tried to hold in the sorrow but she caved in eventually. It's tragic to see her lose both the love of her life and her long-time academic rival and shed pained tears over their passing. Juuzou finally realizing how much of a father Shinohara was to him only made it more devastating to find out that he'll never wake up again. The Manager was taken to Aogiri to be modified on by Kanou along with a lot of kidnapped Investigators that disappeared in the battle. Amon might've been declared dead but we didn't see him get killed just like Hide was so there might be something going on soon. After the operation, Kaneki was deemed erased by the CCG and it seems that Arima has been given ownership of something. It could've been a new Quinque made of you-know-who but I don't want to convince myself that it is too much. Aogiri wasn't the ones responsible for turning Kaneki into a Ghoul after all. Itori, Uta, Nico, Souta, and even Roma was part of the previously annihilated clown group Pierrot and they've been pulling the strings behind many of the story's events all along. It makes sense why Studio Pierrot decided to adapt this one now~ Anteiku's demolished but Touka continues to hope that he'll come back. After that gruesome two-eye removal of Kaneki, they didn't show him in the last chapter but his Centipede monologue was strewn throughout it. He might have his own comeback real soon. Tsukiyama will spend his days crying his eyes out until that happens though. With this finished, I can finally get to watching the re anime and perhaps read it afterwards ♡ |

First time rereading Tokyo Ghoul since it's original run. While I have changed throughout the past 5 years of this series ending, my love for it has not. This series was working itself up to be such a masterpiece and Tokyo Ghoul:re shat all over that. If Ishida ended the whole story with this chapter I would not be mad, even though there would be so many loose ends (such as Aogiri tree, the clowns, what happened to Hide, what happened to the investigators, etc) we would have, in my opinion, one of the best conclusions of a tragedy story for the character Ken Kaneki. But rereading this, it's clear to me that Ishida always had a part 2 in mind, so much foreshadowing and set ups for future plot points. Everything about the original Tokyo Ghoul is so good, the artwork, the story, the characters, the setting, the moral battle between Ghouls and Humans is so intriguing because they're not that different. This is why Kaneki himself is such a good character, acting as a bridge between the two, we see his character develop throughout the 143 chapters as he has to adapt to the violent Ghoul lifestyle. It's sad how Kaneki almost becomes a parody of himself towards the end of :re. The anime for Tokyo Ghoul gets me so upset, I really hope it gets a reboot one day because it deserves it. This is one series that I will always urge people to read the manga for. It is so much better than the anime in every way possible. |

Thoroughly enjoyed reading Tokyo Ghoul. It has a great cast of characters. Even the shit ones you end up loving. *not you though Rize* The artwork is amazing and at no point did I feel bored with the story. Bonus points for ending twist that I actually didn't see coming. On to :Re. |

Rereading this manga (May 22, 2020-May 25, 2020), I realize how amazing it is with its subtle hints of foreshadowing and well based characters of their character through their origins, along with the complex lore of ghouls. It felt like an 8/10 at first because I was delusional into thinking it was too similar to the anime, but now I believe it's worth a 9/10. Arguably a 10. |

My expectations when I started to read this manga last year where mild, despite knowing its popularity and praise, but I was still a bit disappointed with the beginning, not that it was bad, but after that torture scene, the development for Ken really picks it up, and I even started to enjoy CCG focuses chapters more, especially Akira. Action and art on Tokyo Ghoul were always something I was looking forward and being this the first work of the mangaka, he certainly deserves a lot of credit there, certainly not easy to create something as visceral, and besides, despite my initial dislike for the focus on the human side, it is nice to see him going for it and exploring heavily both views. After Ken's torture scenes, the changes really had him become a more interesting main character, he literally broke free. The story really goes an unpredictable path in the second half, builds up on some mysteries while leaving a lot opened... I m not mad at all, considering we have a sequel I can pick right away, even if I see many saying it is not as good as the first one. Alot of the world-building is already accomplished and I now definitly want to see the threads unfolding. Still, don't think the manga is deserving of all the popularity paired with its score, but it sure did a pretty good job and had me suck in, to the point I did read most of the volumes binging like crazy. Psyched for the sequel even if it is not as good (already know some spoilers). I do need to see my ship sail, which I know it does, plus I do want to find more about Rize and answers to all those questions surrounding Arima and Etu. 8.7/10 = 9 |

Everyone is mourning the dead. And sadly know one knows who won this fight. They took Yoshimura to Kano! I forgot Eto was Aogiri. "The world is... Wrong" The clowns are crazy. Roma was also a clown in the end. Akira still visits Mado's grave. Sasaki? Don't tell me... |

CrazyBear said: Maybe I'm missing something, but I did not like the ending and I have a lesser opinion on the manga overall. After 143 chapters I still don't know ANYONE'S agenda such as Manager, Aogiri, Dr. Kanou, Touka's lil bro (?), and the revealed members of the clown group. The characters, well besides Juuzou, I did not find any of them likeable. Most of the investigators introduced just feel like "ranks with a wep attached to them", I don't feel anything when someone like Takizawa, Shinohara, or even Amon is killed. Touka does practically nothing the entire manga? Am I supposed to care when Hide dies in one implied sentence and off panel. Can only measure "power levels" by that person's rank The art... what am I looking at during action scenes. More than half the scenes I literally can't see who is doing what. A 4 for me I agree wholeheartedly, a really messy manga |

Damn what a huge waste of time this was. Surprisingly boring to read despite some interesting ideas. The action scenes arent that well done, atleast the art got better over time. I honestly have no idea how to describe it but it feels like nothing happens in atleast 100 of the chapters, as if unimportant side characters talk about unimportant things all the time. Maybe 10 chapters or so were actually good. The ending is super unsatisfying, its not even worth calling it an ending. Now I know Re exists but I would have imagined this to be a little bit more conclusive anyway. Kaneki going insane over his ghoul cannibalism was interesting but did not matter in the end, Touka just ceases to exist as a character, her family drama with her brother just leads nowhere, loads of CCG guys talk non stop but they are all basically irrelevant, suddenly relevant CCG guys pop up but have no backstory or character, since way too many CCG guys get named I just stopped caring honestly, I think erasing the term "ghoul investigator" would cut the word count in half, the Rize subplot was interesting but had like 3 chapters of content and obviously had no conclusion, the "who killed Rize" subplot just got somewhat solved but in a way which makes it not matter at all, Amons and Kanekis shared ideals lead nowhere, the doctor was apparently the main driving force of the plot but had also only 5 chapters or so, one eyed owl plot left open, Kaneki eating hide in the end can only be described as worthless shock moment, the entire part with Kanekis group post Anteiku was weird af honestly, Aogiri Tree did nothing really.. 143 chapters is a long time but it wasnt used well at all, this makes me really hesitant to read Re which is another 200 chapters only to get some closure for this story.. Apparently this is a seinen but it feels way too much like a typical shounen for me. The first part of the story was decent enough but then just way too many characters and topics get introduced without following up on any of them. Im going to say it, the anime was better (season 1 atleast) and season 2 going original was atleast not worse than what the manga did. 6/10 |

I kind of felt like I had to read this series at some point especially since I own a few volumes of it yet don't really remember much about it so I gave it an another shot. I feel like I would have collected them all as the local translation came out but I lost interest in animanga around that time. I've always dismissed it as an "edgy middle-schooler's favourite" -type series but I did enjoy it a lot more than I expected to when I ignored those prejudices although that view isn't completely wrong. I recall that the anime adaptation was way worse and honestly I have a hard time imagining how they managed to fit 14 volumes into 12 episodes without missing the things I liked about the manga like the atmosphere conveyed through the artstyle. On a side note, I was a bit disappointed that the "meme panel" of Kaneki crying (I think it's him?) didn't appear in the first part lol. Maybe I'm not taking this series too seriously, partly because I really didn't feel any connections to the characters, I kind of just watched the tragedy unfold. Sorry for rambling about an over a decade old series' first part lol Comander-07 said: Apparently this is a seinen but it feels way too much like a typical shounen for me. So exactly what happened with TG already. Seriously WTF is this manga? How does this happen twice in a row, how do you make a sequel for a manga you didnt know how to end, only for the sequel to be even longer and have just as much of a weird ending because you made the exact same mistake of missing your way out twice. TG really has some pretty damn good parts, I would say RE has some amazing parts even, pure KINO. But when you read 340 chapters only to get a rushed ending twice, it just leaves a sour taste in your mouth so the general feeling is one huge "eh?". It feels like 2 different authors wrote this story, as if the episode director for half the show was an absolute GOAT like Shinbou but the overall storyboard was done by a newbie. |

My 2020 Loose Breakdown of the Manga by Chapter: [Chapter 1:] The original and redrawn version have slight differences of dialogue and action with an odd dialogue from Hide. [Chapter 2:] Ken goes to his favorite burgers restaurant with Hide and barfs after trying eating his favorite burger, prior to this, his distaste of food is more apparent since his operation, along with his craving of human flesh. ... Ken meets Touka again after she's being harassed by an old man in the manga, where is kakugan eye is first seen. [Chapter 3:] Rize in his head doesn't exist in the original manga. Kaneki also usually relates to the books he reads which isn't in the anime as well. [Chapter 4:] Ken realizes through trial and error of chance himself coffee is the only thing that tastes normal, which is where he first meets Nishiki in a convenience store buying a lot of coffee before he finds his first corpse through smell. [Chapter 9:] Ken defeats Nishiki in one pierce. [Chapter 10:] Koutarou is cold-hearted and ruthless against Ghouls. [Chapter 13:] Unlike the manga, Ryouko's husband is already dead, with the Doves searching for her, and her leaving her husband's mask on his grave which gives proof to Koutarou of her being a ghoul after he dug up his grave. [Chapter 15:] Kureo kills Ryouko. [Chapter 19:] Touka trains Ken to use his kagune when he asks to teach him, instead of Renji training him in the anime first. Ken receives his mask from Uta. [Chapter 20:] Ken and Touka disguise themselves as high school students to enter CCG, The Commission of Counter-Ghoul. Quinque, the doves' weapons are made from the kagune of Ghouls. [Chapter 26:] Ken defeats Koutarou. [Chapter 27:] Hinami subdues Kureo, and Touka kills him. [Chapter 29:] Koutarou first working with Kureo and their first case together. [Chapter 32:] Shuu's first appearance, the Gourmet Ghoul. Renji helps Ken with Touka on his training. [Chapter 33:] Renji invites Ken to a bar, Helter Skelter, where he meets Itori, with Uta. [Chapter 34:] While discussing of the legendary one-eyed-ghoul, and revealing to Ken that the death of Rize was planned, in exchange of knowing who was the one who plotted it, she tells him to find out of the gourmet ghoul restaurant. [Chapter 37:] Shuu's dinner show starts, with Kaneki and two humans. [Chapter 39:] How Uta and Renji first met, with Itori. [Chapter 41-46:] Ken, Touka, Nishiki vs Shuu. [Chapter 46.5:] Rize's past, the binge eater ghoul ...six months before she died, in the 11th ward. Not following the rules of the wards to eat from other wards once a month and avoid leaving traces, out of boredom, Rize killed and ate many humans in just a month after she joined the eleventh. After she kills Hagi, the leader of the eleventh ward, out of boredom she leaves to the twentieth ward to the cafe she heard about that intrigued her. With Hagi's death, Kazuichi became the new leader of the eleventh ward. [Chapter 47:] Itori hints to Ken that Rize's name was made up, and that he'll probably find out when he knows more about her past. Juuzou's first appearance. [Chapter 50:] Kazuichi comes to the cafe of the twentieth ward as ordered (by Ayato from the Aogiri Tree) but also out of love to ask of Rize. [Chapter 51-52:] Ayato storms into the cafe, along with Yakumo and Nico who kidnap Ken as ordered by their leader, the one-eyed king. [Chapter 53:] Yukinori explains the kagune/weapon (shining wrap) of ghouls to Juuzou, with mainly four types from the shoulder, below the shoulder blade, back, and tailbone: the shining; wing, armor, scales and tail. [Chapter 54:] Tatara reveals to Ken that his doctor Akihiro escaped and was involved in turning Ken into a ghoul. [Chapter 55:] Kazuichi gets Ken out of his cell to escape with his crew of the eleventh ward of Anti-Aogiri --he tells Ken of the top-tiers of the Aogiri Tree; Tatara, Noro, Yakumo, the Bin brothers and Ayato. ... Their plan is to escape on the twelveth, five days from now. [Chapter 57-58:] They start their escape but are later halted vs the brothers. Yakumo later comes back with the heads of two, and captures the rest. [Chapter 59:] Anteiku commence their rescue mission to save Ken, with; Yoshimora, Renji, Touka, Nishiki, Kaya, Itori, Uta, Shuu and Hinami, while Koma is left to protect the cafe. The CCG commence as well. [Chapter 60:] The war of the CCG vs the Aogiri Tree begins. [Chapter 61:] Ten days ago before, Yakumo started torturing Ken, by injecting an rc suppressant fluid into his eye to cut his toes and repeat after regeneration. Yakumo reveals to Ken that Ken's doctor, Akihiro is using Rize's body to experiment in creating stronger ghouls, like him with an abnormal increase in his regenerative abilities. [Chapter 62:] Now with white hair, Rize appears in his mind. Ken's backstory starts. With his father dying at the age of four, he sought comfort in reading his father's books, with his loving mother dying from overworking herself in aiding in her sister's finance. After her death, he was taken custody by his aunt, who spited him due to inferiority of her mother to his aptitudes in school. His only best friend, was Hide. When Yakumo reappears, he brings Kouto and his mother to force Ken to pick who should die. [Chapter 64:] Ken accepts being a ghoul, and starts his attack against Yakumo, after he mentions his superstition of becoming stronger through cannibalism of other ghouls. [Chapter 65:] Yukinori discusses the existence of Kakujya's and the tale of the battle against (Fukurou) Owl. Meanwhile, the Anteiku have arrived. [Chapter 66:] Ken immobilizes Yakumo, eats him and leaves him. [Chapter 67:] As he saves Kazuichi and his gang out of their cell, he vows to protect everyone. [Chapter 68:] When Touka with Nishiki separate from the others, they come across Ayato. Juuzou finds Yakumo and finishes him off. [Chapter 69:] The past of ten years ago of the One-Eyed-Owl vs Kishou Arima. As Yukinori prepares to battle the Owl once more, Ayato is beating Touka. [Chapter 70-71:] Touka and Ayato's backstory. While Kureo was investigating, their father went missing and they eventually joined Anteiku where they faced against Shuu, and Yashimora put Touka to school to help in stopping Ayato's violent tendencies. ... As Ayato is about to eat out her kagune, Ken saves her. [Chapter 75:] During their fight, Ken states realization to Ayato that he subdued Touka in one shot to protect her from dying against Yakumo. Ken then proceeds to half-killing Ayato by breaking half of his bones. [Chapter 76:] After Noro appears, Renji, Shuu and Uta arrive. After they subdue him and Renji kicks his head off, he regenerates instantly and walks out taking Ayato with him. Another subject of Akihiro's experiment. [Chapter 77:] Koutarou kills the Bin brothers. Noro disregards, turning away from Juuzou after seeing him with Yakumo's corpse. [Chapter 78:] The One-Eyed-Owl after some time leaves away from his foes and does not kill any of them once more. [Chapter 79:] Ken tells Touka that he won't be returning to Anteiku permanently since he wants to become stronger and has things he wants to find out. [Chapter 80:] As the battle of CCG vs Aogiri Tree in their base is won by the doves, Aogiri's true plan was to take over the ghoul prison camp of ward twenty-three.
