I vaguely remembered someone telling me Death Note was good. I bought it and it was very good, at least up until

After that I started reading more and eventually started watching anime and other stuff.

Started reading some Manga cause I wanted to know the story a bit further. Either its an alternate story, or a continuation from the Anime series. Manga is a great time killer for me when I have downtime at work -- lunch break or downtime.

I was a big Naruto anime fan and one time I saw some guy reading the Naruto manga in an internet cafe. The manga was way ahead of the anime at the time and I hated waiting every week for a new episode so I decided to start reading manga.

I got into manga just a bit before starting to watch anime as a hobby. I believe I first got introduced to the medium through a Shounen Jump Magazine that I borrowed from a friend.

The first time of reading Japanese manga was when I was in elementary school though.

I realised that there are many great stories that aren't animated and I didn't want to miss out experiencing them. Also, a lot of anime fall short in delivering the story so I read to get the full series until the end. Been reading about 3 years now.

I guess the reason was to get more of what i already liked. Like i said in the "first manga i ever read" i started reading manga with stuff like Ichi The Killer, Battle Royale and Hellsing.

The first two had been made into to movies and i saw those movies first and because i liked them enough i started to do some research and found out there was comic adaptation too.

From the first Hellsing show i saw the potential but that first anime was obviously a bad one but i because i found that manga and the anime are very much different i decided to read it.

I don't really remember, I was really young. But I think what happened was my friend taped Naruto for me but one very sad day, she informed me that they had stopped airing it, so I turned to the local library to read the manga. Although I ended up with Bleach instead, but continued reading it nonetheless.

I read manga, because
1- I've wached the anime and liked it so much that I decide to read it
and..
2- When I browse to find a good manga, I find one with a good storyline and read it. As simple than that ^_^

Strobe Edge was actually the first series that got me picking up manga in the first place, but I guess I didn't really get into manga until I started craving to see the continuation of the story of Bokura ga Ita, so I picked up the manga after watching the anime series. From there I started really getting into shoujo manga. I suppose it was a good way to get my fix of shoujo, since I very few shoujo offerings the anime world has been churning out recently have genuinely interested me.

I wanted to read the Pokemon Special/Adventures manga, so that's what first got me to read it.
It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. Isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. — Tatsuhiro Satou

(before internet awailability) I was reading comic books which i bought regularly on news stands, accidentally I found Akira which was published by chapters (two chapters came out in total... so I had it on-hold before I even made lists until I found scans on internet), so that was my first manga more than 10 years ago... anyway I started reading seriously 7 years ago or something (read online pages started blooming all over)... first I read shounens because I wanted to know what will happen before anime continued (like One Piece) and manga whoose anime finished but more of the story was in publishing manga like Berserk, Claymore and such. Afterwards I started reading every great manga that didn't get anime. Now I read because I enjoy reading and exploring the very medium.

After I bought myself tablet I read manga on it on train rides to college and back (when I do not have anything to study it is great to have some low baterry consumption activity for total of 3 hours in both directions + waiting for the train time so I'm not bored, longer brakes in between classes... waiting in line somewhere....etc.).

-random thought: i like comics more than I like novels mostly because it saves me the time reading descriptions of surroundings, characters and such, well I can see them so I only have to read what they are saying.... sounds somewhat shallow. I love fantasy and historical fiction adventure novels if writer has good style of writing (in my impatient case: devoid of excessive drama and descriptions so I can imagine them freelly rather). I love writing style in Harry Potter series or in Eragon series, but i hate the writing style of Royal Assasin for example.

I was tired of lame Naruto fillers at one point. That's the sole reason I started reading Naruto manga (can't say I'm very happy with it though). Later, I found out some other works which made me realize what I missed.

Found a copy of Cardcaptor Sakura in my local B&N when I was around 7 or 8 and have been hooked on manga ever since.
Hadn't really watched anime before that, though I was pretty into Pokemon and stuff like that I wasn't aware that it was "anime".

Well, I've always read manga my entire life. Recently, I got back into manga because a lot of series by authors that did some of the anime I like had manga that didn't get adapted yet so I wanted to check their stuff out.

Back before Bleach became obvious shit and still had hope, I was visiting my cousin who read the manga back then and he just like blurted out a ton of spoilers and I thought, "Well, fuck it now. I cant wait for the anime to progress beyond my new knowledge so I guess Ill read the manga too." Bleach eventually became shit but then I found out that a lot of animes are actually different than their manga counterparts so I continue to read to either, satisfy my gluttony for the next piece of the story or to see how the story actually goes.

I didn't have internet at my house back around 5-6 years ago, so I made a habit of hanging around at the local library. I mainly read Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh! graphic novels (no money for a gaming console or to buy trading cards) until one day, volume 1 of Kitchen Princess was lying on the check out desk. I thought the cover art was pretty (yes, I'm shallow) and checked it out with the rest of my stuff. I read through it, and it was good. I proceeded to check out just about every manga my library had (which wasn't a lot sadly).

tl;dr
I was bored. It was eye candy and an alternative to online stuff. Two birds with one stone.

1. Because many anime end abruptly just when I think the plot actually gets interesting.
2. I read that many anime deviate from the original manga story, and turns out the manga ALWAYS has more awesome story in such cases.
3. And yeah, some of the most amazing manga aren't even adapted to anime! If I stick only to anime, I would never know these mangas.

It was kind of the natural step for me. I watched anime since my early childhood -thanks based mum- and when I grew it was like "if I read books which are adapted to movies and many of those books are better than the adaptations... maybe reading manga would be fine". And it was.
If it has solution, don't bother; and if it hasn't, why bothering?
