hmmm, the saddest manga that i've read so far was Chrno Crusade(because of its ending) and Rurouni Kenshin(that one arc about Kenshin's past)...yeah that's it...
Destroy. Destroy. Destroy. Slowly, completely, gently beyond comparison, cruelly to the point of numbness, I'll violate your life. That's right. The instant I rip off your limbs, tear open your rib and pull out your intestines, biting into your neck as you scream in agony, chewing through your eyes as I ignore your pleas for mercy and spreading your brains on the ground like butter!

Totally agreeing here. Oh god, and the IRL movie captured it perfectly. I cried for days after reading and watching, ugh.

yeah. i started watching it but i thought the acting was horrible and i hated it. i watched 4 episodes and gave up on it. I really want to get my hands on the original yoshi novels, but i can't read japanese :(. i heard the novel is really really good.

It was a really touching story about young love and death. Not for the emotionally unstable. =]

Earthian was pretty sad to me; the whole last volume made me cringe just so that I wouldn't cry. And when I say last, I mean the last volume with Chihaya and Kagetsuya, not the extra. Though, that made me want to cry too. Geez, even the side stories of Earthian are depressing ;_;

Wish was happy-sad. I dunno. One part of me thinks "Yay! They're together ... sort of ..." then the other part goes "What the hell?! He friggin died!" =/ But yeah, it did make me want to cry. But I didn't.

Loveless so far, is a bit of a sad read. You just feel for the characters so much, even characters you thought you would hate like Yuiko or Yayoi or the Zeros. Ritsuka, too D=

Boys Next Door ... I'm not so sure what to say about this one, but it DEFINITELY wasn't happy. The entire manga had this sort of eerily sad, almost sadistic air to it that made it hard to believe what was happening in the manga. They show you the ending at the beginning, and it's still ... shockingly bittersweet. Maybe it was the art that made it so masochistic, since Kaori Yuki has a skill with gothic manga.

A lot of people are putting Absolute Boyfriend, but honestly, I thought it was fine. I mean, how ELSE would it have ended? Night just wanted Riiko to be happy and Soshi just wanted to be with Riiko, while Riiko just wanted for both of them to be happy with her decision to be with Night. In the end, it was truly the only way.

Hmm this is hard considering most of the stuff I read tends to be happy never give up shonen lol. One Piece certainly has its moments, I'm thinking the death of Nami's Belle-merre and Arlong's treatment of Nami, of course Chopper's backstory, and I felt sympathy with the Robin backstory. I agree with dairysorbet about Berserk, I felt the particular sadness with all the crap Gattsu and Casca go through through the series is damn tragic. I'm surprised with dairysorbet that they didn't mention Gantz what with their avatar of the young onion alien. Of course dairysorbet may have only seen the anime. Gantz is quite sad with the heavy use of death.

My Lovely Ghost KANA. She just wants to have fun and is dead!

Standard joke aside, I'd have to say Fruits Basket. I loved the anime, read the manga. Loved the manga, got to the final chapters. Hated the ending, but that doesn't take away the fact that it was sad.

Hmm.. I feel pretty heartless right now. ..

I've read Deep Love Ayu no Monogatari, Forever Honey, Bitter Virgin, Socrates in Love, Eien no With, Boys Next Door, Fruits Basket, Kagen no Tsuki, ParaKiss and The Demon Ororon. And I haven't shed a tear in any of them. I was pretty far off from crying..

The saddest manga I've read from those above, had to be Eien no With. I'm a sucker for animals, especially dogs. Closest I was ever to crying. But I still didn't cry.

Probably Voices of a Distant Star. The manga adaption of Shinkai's classic was brilliant.
Though, oddly i was sad at the end of Azumanga Daioh. But purely just because it was over, and it was such a beautifull, happy ending.

All you guys are pussies. I laughed when that bitch died in Deep Love. Stupid Whore deserved it. I've read Bitter Virgin too, which also wasn't really sad. I felt that the more light-hearted/comical scenes detracted from the sadness that was supposed to be felt.

And I know it's not really a manga, but the visual novel Kana: Little Sister made me somewhat sad although the ending(s) are predictable in some cases. So far Kana has been sadder than any manga or anime I have seen.
