Hello guys I just thought this would be an interesting topic, I haven't seen something like it before it the casual discussion section.

I know some of you might consider this sort of personal and/or embarrassing, but it doesn't really give away your identity.

For myself (in my early 20's) I've had some periods of my life where I exercise regularly and some periods where I did not exercise at all. For a good portion of my childhood (before high school) my parents made me play in sports like baseball and basketball, so I was in decent shape then I guess. I really slacked off in high school, besides running a lot in the summers before my 11th and 12th grade years, which made a huge difference in my overall body weight and how people viewed me. So I guess I was pretty chubby my first 2 years of high school, didn't play sports and rarely moved at all (I mostly read books, played videogames, and watched anime occasionally by myself).

In college I wasn't part of any sports teams or recreational leagues, but it was probably the one period of my life I got a lot of consistent exercise from biking to and from class, especially in my last semster I lived 3.5 miles from campus, and I had to bike up a monstrous hill to get to class everyday. I jogged off and on throughout college, but it was never more consistent than 2 months in a row I think before I either got too behind in schoolwork or some minor foot or leg injury would make me stop and throw my routine off.

I graduated last December, and I've been super lazy ever since moving back home honestly. I live a very sedentary life style now, no classes to rush to, I drive when I need to go places, and sort of feel unmotivated to exercise. I developed a pretty nasty habit of staying up very late last semester that I haven't snapped out of, so that makes it diffcult for me to wake up early in the mornings and get exercise out of the way. Haven't weighed myself in about 1 year, but I'd say I'm at least 20 pounds overweight, at most 35 pounds. I've effectively reduced my wardrobe by 1/2 by gaining weight in the last 4-6 months..

In addition to your exercise story, when do you exercise if you do? How many days a week or hours per day do you average? Why exactly do you exercise, and how long have you kept it up? What exactly do you do? (specific sport, competitive, weights, biking, running, ??)

When I had exercised regularly in the past I would always do it super early in the morning (4am or 5am) it just felt nice to get that shit out of the way and not have to worry about fitting it into a busy schedule and mealtimes and the like. When I ran regularly I would go 5-6 days per week, the most I ran at a given time was a little over 5 miles per run in the summer of 2012. I generally exercised to stay healthy (My family has a bad history of diseases and especially heart diseases).

I exercise to stay in shape and also because I like it: being all sore after a hundred sit-ups feels pretty good, strangely enough. I love running too, so I guess that helps.

Every morning around 8a.m. (most of my classes are in the afternoon so I allow myself to sleep in) I do my usual stretching, genuflexions, sit-ups and push-ups.
I go running on the week-ends (from friday to sunday), usually for between 40 minutes and one hour.
Oh, and I also play rugby in my college team: we have 2hour trainings every Monday at noon and Friday afternoon.

I plan on taking up Aikido classes again this September after the summer break.

Meh, I do it because it's part of the job, for the most part I enjoy it because I know it's good for me. . . I detest long runs though

It's more important depending on how active you are already and how badly you need it.

I love exercising, both doing it and what it does for me, but I don't get a chance to do it as often as I'd like.

I exercise daily since my parents force me to. It's not that I don't like being active, I love playing sports and skateboarding. But lately I've been stressed out. And when I'm stressed I do less exercise.

I used to swim and then quit - that's it pretty much. I don't have much willpower anymore so I just go running when i feel like it, for 40-60 min maybe 8 times per month (or less), I like walking to places though so if walking counts as excercise then I'm good

I try to work out time to time. I won't say I do it daily, but at least 4-5 times weekly, here lately I've been meaning to get back into my runs and the like but I need a treadmill.

I still use weights time to time, streach and the like, point of fact I'm more agile and energentic than some people half my age almost, only a small few match up to me around my age group as well. My workouts tend to be flexable and I focus on various things on a given day rather than a long drawn out routine, minus walks and runs. Though haven't been able to here lately thanks to the shit below and my insomina/narcolepsy.

However my work out standard has dropped considerablly thanks to bastard land developers. We have alot of trash here some Imported some Domestic that moved in for the cheap housing, now that the banks got what they want the roads have went all to shit, dogs are running lose in the bloody woods and streets, I could go on and on here, but the fact is unless I feel like carrying a AKM or a big stick around this area is no longer safe to even walk around. Thanks progress.

Fuckers.

Oh well time to look for that treadmill so I don't have to face the shit here least I feel the urge to burn this whole region to the ground as it deserves.

I usually exercise at least 3 times a week but that's because I'm in a p.e. class. But since I can't drive, I usually walk if I need to go somewhere and I try to be somewhat active on the weekends and play some recreational sports or whatever. Besides that I'm pretty lazy and have some days where I just sit my ass at home all day. I'm rather skinny though, I weigh about 130 pounds at 5'10" so I'm doing fine.

I used to lift weights five days a week, but I haven't been that active in a while. I still do un-weighted calisthenics and stretching every day, but I know if I stepped into a weight room my maxes and rep weights would be pitiful compared to what they once were. I also weigh like 9 pounds less than I did back then. Sooooo, I'm betting that was muscle loss. Yikes.

My opinion of exercise is that it's good for you. Do it. It's fun. And drink a lot of water. It's good for your skin.

Stretch for 10 minutes, run for 30 minutes, walk for another 30 minutes, then stretch again. 5 Days a week. Basically, this allows me to eat mostly anything I want while staying around 115-125 lbs give or take. My body is also slightly toned as result. Running has been one of my absolute favorite passions since early in high school, and because of that exercising tends to be easy for me.

I don't exercise, but I'm skinny. Could be 'cause I don't eat like a cow. The whole idea of exercise doesn't make sense to me anyway.

If you're training for something, the point is learning how to do it, but you "exercise" in the process of learning, so that your body is just as capable as your mind (there's always more to learn, so you can easily stay in shape). If you're just trying to keep your muscles from atrophying, being anything other than entirely sedentary will suffice. Stretches can't hurt, though.

If you're trying to make yourself live longer, then you're wasting your time. No one knows what the future holds. You could spend all of your free time jogging around in circles at the gym until you're out of breath and then get into a car accident and die on the way home.

Eating right, on the other hand, makes a lot of sense. There are certain nutrients that your body needs to keep getting in order to keep repairing itself, and if you don't eat those things, it will affect your health. Also, since your body doesn't like to waste anything, if you eat more than you need, you're gonna be carrying it around with you.

The idea of 3 meals a day always seemed absurd to me, and now they're trying to tell fat people that they need to have even more meals a day. What the fuck? I eat once or twice a day, and it's not a feast, either, like a lot of people seem to think every meal needs to be. You only need to eat like that if you are exercising a lot. Like if you work in a factory or something.

That's another thing I never understood. Why on earth do so many people try to claim that the physical labor many people do at work shouldn't count as exercise?

Just go Gym pretty much nowadays helps that I have a flatmate that loves going gym and I join him whenever I feel like it. Used to play sports till bout 2 years ago just cant be asked nowadays too busy.

Gym is your best bet at staying in shape, the 24hour one near my flat is great we go whenever we feel like usually offpeak so its just us and a few others in there.

Edit;
Oh yh I exercise just for my heath and feels natural, and also because of the summer holidays (usually go somewhere hot and girls like a man in shape)

Exercise is a big part of my life

ran cross country from 6th grade up through all of high school, was too slow to make the Uni team when I tried out. This last December was my last big attempt to try to get in good running shape. Was in the best shape I've been in since high school but then got the flu for 2 weeks and felt like I lost 3 months of progress so I got really frustrated and pretty much stopped all together

Now I'm into lifting pretty hardcore, put on a bit more than 10 pounds since the start of the year. I'll probably start running again as it gets nicer out but will just do easy mileage instead of doing workouts on the track, it just gets too stressful and loses all the fun

Back when I ran to try to get fast I would usually do 55-65 miles a week, sometimes more. Right now I lift at 6:00 am for 40-60 minutes about 5 times a week. Lifting is nice because you can see progress pretty frequently and it's a lot less stressful than running where you can put in crazy amounts of work and feel like you're getting no where.

I'm currently majoring in exercise science with a clinical emphasis so I could spout out a bunch of facts about how beneficial exercise is but I'll try not to bore anyone. Main thing is it helps bring up HDL levels and increases vascularization so is pretty darn good at preventing heart attacks and stroke. Exercise should become a regular part of everyone's life but sadly it's not. I can understand why though, getting in shape sucks but once you're in shape exercising is pretty fun. Most people never get to the latter and that's a shame.

edit: forgot to mention I got really into racquetball over the last 2 months. Depending on how often my buddy is available we'll play anywhere from 2-10 hours a week. I get way too into it though, just competitive I guess

I run/kayak/hike on a sometimes-regularly-sometimes-not basis.

I started working again a couple months ago, usually I'm on my feet 10 hours a day and often don't feel like exercising when I get off shift. Though playing airsoft last weekend reminded me that I'm not in the shape I want to be in at the moment, so I'm going to start running one or two miles after every work day. Just got back from running, actually.

It's kind of amazing how fast things atrophy. I was in the best shape of my life in January, able to run ten miles with ease. A couple months of not running regularly and I'm in the "oh blah this be not fun" sort of mode again... :P Always a WIP.

Well I studied sport from school to college & became a qualified fitness instructor.

My exercise regimes aren't as heavy as they used to be, now I just stick to doing core exercises and resistance training here and there. Cardio exercise at least three times a week though. I'm nowhere near as healthy as I used to be, probably just getting lazier & lazier with each passing year.

yay for genetics and a fast metabolism!

There are far more benefits to exercise than simply remaining slim. I've got a pal who used to eat around three kebabs a week and pig out occasionally too, even though we regularly played football (every day of the week bar weekends) he'd never put on weight either. He'd still get knackered fairly quickly during matches though.
