| So after giving it much thought I have decided that, I want to know what has yuri/yaoi brought the the anime community besides blatant fan service to many BL lovers and testosterone filled boys looking for a quick fix. | Yaoi just looks completely different than Yuri by its very premise. From the ones I've skimmed pages of, Yaoi seems to pander much more to the "erotism/shickle-material" side instead of the "romantic/fluffy" side that Yuri does. Most of men in Yaoi look like complete erotic monstrosities that look completely awful 99% of the time. | They're not really "genres" unto themselves (even though they are used in tagging anime/manga), they are a subset of romance. And even then, I've seen yaoi and yuri that weren't explicitly a story centered around romance, but just homosexual characters (examples: yaoi, yuri). Yaoi/yuri's real genres can range anywhere from drama to comedy to romance to action to horror to slice of life to fantasy to sci fi. It's not a genre in terms of what to expect in the actual plot except for homosexual (or even bisexual) characters. It'd be like calling "heterosexual" a genre. My guess is they are categorized separately due to both fetishization and homophobia, neither of which are particularly good. But I don't really understand what you're asking. It's like saying "what does supernatural bring to the table? I watched an action show, and then a supernatural show, and they both had action in it. They're the same thing, so what's the big deal?" I literally don't understand what you mean. |
