I've known since I watched Overdrive. There's a couple of other cycling anime but I haven't seen them yet.

Yowamushi Pedal is probably my favorite cycling anime and one of the tops I look forward to each week.

He's going to be pretty strong.

I need to watch some cycling animes since I've gotten into doing triathlon. Doing my first Olympic distance this year (having 4 planned).
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

@Ckan: Lol. For tonight at least.

I agree. Very exciting. I hope that there will be a long running series for sports anime soon.

I miss the days of PoT and HnI.

Diamond no Ace is looking to be 52 episodes, that's what some people might consider long running.

Well, there aren't that many out there:

http://myanimelist.net/anime/1209/Nasu:_Andalusia_no_Natsu

I think there's another one or two that aren't in english.

@introver: omg, I forgot all about overdrive. Had to actually look it up to jog my memory. Very good series. And I wait every week for pedal too.

@stall: I'm actually super excited about ping pong. Once you look past the animation style, it seems like it has a lot of potential and depth.

Haha. Though, I don't think there are even that many sports anime that have gotten a straight-up 100 eps. Not even Ippo did. I guess there'd probably be a bunch of never-subbed long runner baseball shows.

Because of it only having one race it's kinda easy to forget.

Well Hajime no Ippo doesn't have a season over 100 episodes. Though all of them added up do make over 100. That might end up happening with Diamond no Ace, Yowamushi Pedal, Kuroko no Basket, and Haikyuu depending on how much they have left. Luckily we've had tons of sports anime the past couple of seasons, lets hope this continues.

The same thing with me. And Yuki Kaiji was the lead, I rewatched it like a year or two ago and was surprised. I really wanted it to continue once I reached the end. Never was expecting another cycling anime.

Pretty good. I just watch the first three episodes of Yowamushi Pedal. I like what I saw. hehehe....granny bike.

I thought it was really funny seeing sparks fly when gears are changed. If that ever happened in real life there is problems.

As I'm watching this series what is coming to mind is these guys are in supposedly working so hard, sweat coming off like buckets, muscles pushing it to the extreme, they should all be in zone 4 to 5, the very hard to maximum of working out. Conversations, especially of the lengths they are doing, should be non-existent. They should be lucky to get a word or two. Also considering how far they travel, they can't be going very fast. LOL

Haha, I make that observation all the time. Right now I'm a bit bored with the conversations in pedal that onada isn't a part of because he was the only one who was introduced with this talent (singing while climbing).

^ Indeed.

Yowapeda, if I had to describe it to anyone, is Charming Characters Have Character Development on Bikes. So while the sports is there and it's important, its priorities are the first two things. Even taking just the sport itself into account, it's a 3-day endurance race whose competition length extends past those of many other sports' matches while also involving a lot of people.

Doesn't follow the usual sports anime formula you see.

Agreed ^

Yowapeda is less about the sports and more about watching your favourite boys form bonds with each other and race to see who's the very best.

Actually most of the sports animes don't follow the western formula.

How the US works:
1) put together a team of losers, who shouldn't be on the field, ice, etc.
2) find that one ace
3) find a coach who's passionate about his sport
4) put them up against the top rate teams
5) beat the top rate team.

for some reason the US has to have the underdog always win. In anime it's good to see them lose, or the team is already great and does great things. They just need that one to put them over the top. Yowamushi was all this team.
