I'm becoming wery of the half seasons. Financially, it makes perfect sense for the anime industry. But the anime is over usually before I can really get invested nowadays.

That is usually the case for me when it comes to 13 episode anime, to be honest.

I don't call 'em long, but they are longer. I call series long when they pass triple digits. That's when you know you're making a heavy investment.

Well, there are also a lot of 2-cour shows but a significant drop to anything beyond that. 1-cour might still be a slight majority, but 10-26 really covers at least 80% of modern shows.
I probably regret this post by now.

Compared to the usual 12-26 episodes, I think anime with 50+ episodes can be called long.

It totally depends on what you consider long. According to the industry's current stage, it can be defined as long since most shows are mostly varying from 12 to 24 episodes. However, if you take into account forever-running shows such as Naruto or One Piece, calling fifty-episode shows long would not be accurate or clever.

I only consider something to be "long" if it feels like they're purposefully going slow and dragging it on for the sake of more money or something.

As long as each episode/chapter is exciting or has good developments, then nothing would feel "long" to me.

It is long compared to a lot of anime that have 26 episodes, but overall, I wouldn't consider it to be too long.

Definitely.

I'm currently watching Gintama and I'm thinking to take a break from the show every 30 episode to watch something else.

I have absolutely no idea how I managed to sit through 400+ episodes of One Piece back when I started getting into anime. Today's me would never be able to marathon the current 600+ episodes, and if I would've, I would instantly think ''Wow...I could have watched about 30 shows instead''. That being said, I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem reading 700+ manga chapters, funny enough.

It's for that reason that, at this point, it's way too late for me to watch Bleach, Naruto or even Dragonball.

Gintama is episodic, that's why. And your list says you haven't even watched 30 episodes of Gintama yet.

Yeah - generally used to about 13 episode anime. But then again, as Wolf has said, nothing is really long if you truly like it.

If you're saying that I claimed to have watched more than 30 episodes, I honestly don't know where you got that from. Just saying that's what I'm planning to do.

I'd consider 50 episodes as being long if it was just a single story.

From my experience in watching anime the shorter series are generally telling a single story that has an ending, with very few secondary plots.

The longer anime series are, as IntroverTurtle wrote above, episodic. They have standalone episodes and lots of short story arcs. There may be an underlying end goal, but that end goal may be something that is not easily attainable. (Naruto becoming Hokage, Luffy find One Piece, etc)

Most anime these days are 1-2 cour, so I guess it's safe to say that 50 episodes is "long".

With the excessive amount of 12-13 episode anime I've watched, 50+ shows definitely feel like bigger fish. But from my experience most of the ones I've seen tend to be highly addicting and I can zoom through some of them faster than the a 24-26 episode series. Most recent example would be Monster. I'm only 3 episodes in but I can already tell that I'm going to zoom through this before I get back to some 12 episode shows on my list.

Yes. I normally don't have the patience to watch series with more than 25 episodes. If I start one, I don't ever finish it (with the exception of Bleach, which I rewatched until episode 63 and considered it complete).

If it's a monthly manga with 40+ pages then. about 66 chapters.

If it's a weekly manga with about 17 pages then. about 100+ chapters... Granted if it's not full of fillers.

I went through all of Code Geass (50 episodes) In 3 days maximum. 50 isn't long if you're on vacation and have nothing better to do at least. It's sizable if you are working/in school/very busy life though I guess.

Might be somewhat of a matter of comparison too. If you compare Code Geass or FMA: Brotherhood's episode length to say Bleach, One Piece, or Naruto, Detective Conan, then hell no 50+ isn't long at all.

If you compare it to most of the seasonal shows that come out nowadays, around 12 to 24 episodes, I guess it seems long (er), but still doesn't seem LONG though.

They're definitely quite a few anime out there much longer than 50, 60, 70 something eps long anime.. so in the grand scheme of things, 50+ isn't terribly long. It might feel like it is though depending on how much time you have and your life situation while watching those episodes though.

Welsh for meh it goes like
If it has a good story/plot, characters, progression, interesting, (insert whatever) then its short
If it doesnt have that and the filthy swine thats deep within you starts getting all happy from the torture youre withstanding then its too long.

Yes, since 24 - 50+ episodes of the anime takes a while to complete; but, it create more story development with the characters and sometimes not feel rushed as much as the 12 episodes anime. Also, if it drags too long with just filters for like more than half or close to half of the anime, then it lacks content within the main story when is adapted from original source material.

As long as they don't start in with too many filler episodes that don't advance the plot then any length would not be considered overly long in my mind.

As long as it doesn't feel long. To me a shitty 13 episode series can feel longer than a 50+ episode good series.

Tis all about quality.

I consider that average.
After episode 200 it gets long.
I take into consideration the time it takes me finishing it.
An anime with 200 episodes usually takes at most two weeks, it would take a lot less if I wouldn't watch almost every new anime this season, got to fix that next season.

Do you spend about 5 hours a day watching anime? Usually something 'long' in duration means that it is just longer than average, and from personal experience (so it might be wrong) most anime don't come close to being 50 episodes long, so I believe that 50 episodes is long. Long and short are abstract terms and without a center (the average) you cannot determine whether or not something is long or short.

Nah, I'm pretty used to watching 50+ episodes. I just finished three seasons of Digimon, Sailor Moon, and Inuyasha recently and that amounts to approx 600+ episodes lol

13 or less episodes is a like a summer breeze for me. Anime with 20-26 episodes are ones I enjoy the most. They are not overly long by throwing out fillers and they are not short and rushed either.

Yes I do. When I started watching animes most animes were about 26 episodes, so this length feel normal to me.

2-13 episodes: very short
14-20 episodes: short
21-26 episodes: normal
>26 episodes: long
