Well as Otaku a mean a person who likes mangas/animes, not the japanese version of it.
So, I'm wondering what got you into anime? How did you start, when did you start and how long do you think you will watch/read anime/manga? I'm not sure if there are threads like that, but I'll make one.
I'll start:

Well I got into animes about 1,5 years ago. I was bored and then I saw on tv one episode of Naruto Shippuden and I rememberd that when I was younger I watched Naruto. So I decided to look it up and watch it a bit. Well after finishing it I went for One Piece and I enjoyed both of them. After that I had a 2-3 months break during the summer holidays. When I returned to school i realized that some of my friends were also watching anime. This is when I started to watch anime again and focused on a few 12/25 ep animes. I think I'll still watch it for a few years, because there are so many animes on my list I'd really like to watch.

You recommend it to me - you die.

If there aren't at least 3 series per year centered around some overpowered badass, voiced by Nakata Jouji then there's something wrong with anime industry.

I don't consider myself an Otaku, I'm just a fan.

It all started with Haruhi (yuki vs asakura fightscene), that lead me to watch Haruhi, then I found Lucky Star.

What really got me hooked, is Shana. (Found a pic which have Shana and Konata cross over, and the flame hair girl intrigue me)

Then... Because of Shana I found this site... And here I am.

Uhhhh that was so long time ago. I started with digimons. yes and pokemons. yeah... then I saw Dragonball on tv. that shit was amazing. actually it was biggest nonsential bullshit ever but you know.. fist fights. so I watched. later dragonball z. I was like 14 years old back then. and anime that really made me like this stuff was Rurouni Kenshin. that was most amazing thing I've seen back then. later I saw few hentais - Kite and mezzo forte and that draged me compleetely into this stuff. but later after watching some shitload of animes I almost lost interest in this cause shit started to repeat itself and most animes I ve seen was not really worth watching. like all those code geass shit (that everyone seemed to like for unknown reasons) and so on. and good masterpieces like Kimi ga nozomu eien and shigurui was so rare and I started to notice how many quality flaws most those anime have. even impresive animes praised by everyone like gantz had so many quality flaws, such poor animation and all fighting animes (that was recomended for me by anime watchers) like tenjou tenge ended up being complete bullshit overfantasized superpower crap.. gods so many disapointments that I quit this shit for like 3 years and now I sometimes watch anime for entertainment but I m not taking them seriously and I m not a big fan of it anymore. so no, I m not otaku.

but I must admit there's still some anime worth watching out there. like attack on titans which was definetly worth watching and yosuga no sora which I really liked. and also crapshit like sword art online that better been skiped. and disapointments like to aru majutsu no index which turned into compleete shit halfway.

Well I see lots of comment that say "i'm not an otaku, I just enjoy watching anime/manga". Well I stated that as Otaku I'm thinking of a person who enjoys watching anime or manga, NOT the real meaning of otaku.
So you can ignore the word otaku and replace it with "anime/manga fan". I just wanted to hear your stories how you got into anime/manga and how long do you think you'll watch it.

If by otaku you mean watch harem/ecchi/lucky star/k-on and actually enjoy this shit, I'm not otaku. Also, I don't buy Konata figures, and I don't go to anime con, and I don't use costumes.

Well, Otaku is a strong word

Well, if you're asking what anime hookes me up in the first place
It was OreImo
At that time,I really liked Kirino VA. So I started to search more of her works
and there my friend, where I discover K-On

So, for me K-on is the reason

Why not just ask how we got into anime? Otakus have bad taste, I have good taste so I don't want to be associated with them.

And it was when I remember how much I loved DBZ as a kid and how I always waited for GT to air in our country and it never did, so I dled GT and it was the first anime I watched outside TV. After that came stuff like the big 3, death note, trigun and other stuff followed. 2010 I joined MAL and it all escalated and now I'm closing in on 1k watched. The end.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well OP said we could just replace the word otaku with anime fan or something.

Mine was around 2-3 years ago probably... IIRC when I was having exam, I went to see some.. materials using campus FTP. I didn't find any useful ebook/slide but I found Yotsubato!, One Piece, and Kimi ni Todoke manga folders there. I didn't even know what 'manga' was at that time but I copied them anyway. After reading them I became a manga fan. Manga wasn't enough for me, so I started to watch the anime too.
