Some people asked me about μ’s "Music S.T.A.R.T!!" not being in the chart. So instead of going back one by one, let me sum up everything here: As I said earlier, I treat this as a blatant case of discrimination. And I will say a bit more why omitting the single JUST MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

- As I said already, the single (most versions anyway) has an OVA in it, so it can be argued just for that it is anime-related.

- The single is based on characters already shown in the anime (and are even the main cast) so if character songs of KuroBas or UtaPri can make it to the chart, why not μ’s ?? And this is totally different from the case of the Cinderella Girls of IdolM@ster (but as if to mock this notion, Cinderella Girls also had an anime intro PV released recently)

- The single is treated as "anison" アニソン by every anime fan (at least in Japan but I am sure it will be considered as such by people in this forum too)

- Most damningly, even ORICON said it is an anime tie-up. Check
http://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/artist/523387/products/music/1045547/1/
Under the tie-up section:
タイアップ: MXTV他アニメ「ラブライブ!」より
translate:
Tie-Up: from MXTV etc Anime "Love Live!"

What do you guys think about the omission of μ’s "Music S.T.A.R.T!!" in the singles chart here? My view is that it is pretty indefensible and inappropriate.

Also, something not related: the chart missed out two anime OP/ED:

バレッタ 395,127 395,127 乃木坂46
ブラックナイトタウン 2,073 2,073 近藤晃央

Barette by Nogizaka 46 (Naruto Shippuden OP)
Black Night Town by Kondo Akihisa (Naruto Shippuden ED)
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Idol shows are discriminated as usual. I wish there was more talk about The iDOLM@STER, AKB0048 and Love Live. All three are amazing shows, each very different but also very enjoyable in its own way.
Staff deleting their data from sales threads certainly doesn't help.

I imagine the decision has much more to do with not wanting the extra work of identifying and listing these titles than some news mod hating on idol anime, though. Not that that's a good reason not to include them, of course.
If that is the case, then I wonder why KuroBas2 character songs made it into the list, but not this Love Live character song single (which is what the Music S.T.A.R.T!! single is essentially). This is why I said "discrimination". I honestly do not think it is over-the-top to use that word. Remember discrimination does not have to involve ill-intent. It can be unintentional or misguided rather than deliberate.

If the reason is extra work, then why include KuroBas2 character songs and almost added Saiyuuki and Diabolik Lovers character song singles? Why not just make it a OP/ED single chart and be done with it?

I think the link http://www20.atwiki.jp/keroro00innovatorl gives 404 error but the other links you provided are good. But as you said, it only covers most of the tie-up. Tie-up for Naruto Shippuuden, for example, cannot be found there. But then Oricon site actually provides tie-up information, so it is not too difficult to check. And as I said, Oricon lists Music S.T.A.R.T!! as a tie-up with the anime Love Live!!

Neither do I (never a fan and never follow the anime) but this is what I would do (and did): Perform research on every single on the singles chart to check if it is a single RELATED TO anime, not just by what I know or am familiar with, because I am sure I would have missed many even though I am following >25 anime series for this cour.

I did, but for example, I found that the song is "Tsuki no Ookisa" instead of "Baretta". for Naruto OP. Even though I've seen the title of ED song once because I do other things with theme songs, but I forgot about it.

Naruto OP is the 2nd song of the single. But anyway the Oricon webpage (both the public one and the Youtaiju one) lists the Naruto tie-up.

Suffice to say that if I had not seen a consistent pattern in taking out idol anime-song singles from IdolM@ster and Love Live, I might have used a less harsh word.

Do OP songs sell that much?

This is news to me, I didn't know Naruto's anime actually sell somehow. Do morning/main stream anime have great OP/ED sales? I think I saw Toriko ED last week selling 100k+.

The sales have very little to do with the show and a lot to do with them hiring very popular mainstream artists who will sell well regardless.

In this case, Nogizaka46 is a major idol group (they like to call themselves AKB48's rival or something) so it's selling primarily because of that, rather than primarily because of Naruto.

I see, that makes sense. How significant are those sales? do they have an effect whether or not a morning anime gets cancelled or is manga sales and ratings still more important?

Do the BDs of Naruto, OP, HxH, Toriko, Space brothers and the likes actually rank or sell okay?

Those sorts of shows are typically aimed at getting high TV viewing figures, not disc sales.

Another god-tier episode just finished airing in Tokyo. Tokyo aired Aoki Hagane FOUR DAYS (!!) after Osaka and overseas fans get their anime from the earliest broadcast which is the Osaka broadcast, and from my observation, new episode boost is substantially stronger after Tokyo broadcast than after Osaka broadcast.

And one word about tie-up with major music artists for anime OP/ED. It is something that once used to be the norm, back when there was no midnight anime, particularly for shounen type of anime like Dragonball, City Hunter etc. Of course if you did not follow anime back then (perhaps if you were not yet born) it might come as a surprise. Only in the last one to two decades, with the rise of first musicians dedicated to singing anime song and then the seiyuu/idol singers, did we see anime OP/ED being sung less and less by mainstream artists.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

Aikatsu! and Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live should added to the mix.

By the way, glad that Danball Senki Wars ranked in. Too bad that apparently it will be the last season.

Did the official website have an exclusive bonus? If so that could explain it, if not I'd expect it to contribute very little to sales.
It does. But even if it does not, I would say that it should contribute more than "very little" to sales because there will always be people who would rather buy online, particularly if an Animate shop is not near where he/she lives and works.

Not sure what you mean, unless you're saying Animate is in-store pickup only, and does not ship out online orders like any other retailer with an internet storefront. Is there a source on that?
My experience with Animate is that often their storefront bonus does not extend to internet purchase. Not sure if it is still the case now, but what I want to say is that if Animate is not offering anything particularly special online, then the official site and animate online are just two online retailers. People who really want Animate storefront bonus would need to go to a shop to buy the stuff.

Hopefully Symphogear G v.3 does well, great songs on OST CD3 and an awesome pair of episodes! Can't wait to see them properly!

Wow this is really surprising, not only good first day position, but it's actually holding quite well. Can we expect for it match all regular volume total in first week (~4,5K)?

Also although it's too soon to be sure, it seems that Arpeggio of Blue Steel will be this season top seller non sequel and #3 in sales overall.

iDOLM@STER stuff was listed in this weeks breakdown just fine so I don't think that's the case.
Actually a number of IdolM@ster singles are still missing from the single chart posted in this thread.
But at least Love Live single got added back, so at least there is some comfort regarding treatment of character songs from idol anime shows.

That's good to hear about the Love Live! Single 6 being added back. I wonder what the reasoning is for leaving it out at first?

I noticed that Wonderful Rush (http://www20.atwiki.jp/keroro00innovator/pages/1216.html) was also left out in the week of Sep 3~9, 2012... when it sold enough to rank above 5 singles on that chart:
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=489721&show=0

However, もぎゅっと“love”で接近中!(http://www20.atwiki.jp/keroro00innovator/pages/1215.html) was left on the chart for Feb 13~19, 2012:
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=405915&show=0

Very bizarre.

So am I finally witnessing Beyond the Boundaries last second miracle recovery I predicted on Amazon or is there some other factor at play? Let me guess, somebodies is going to tell me because the most recent episode was decent by comparison that it's the usual one episode that people respond to so strongly it instantly fixes the shows popularity thing. If so how am I in any way wrong about what I said in past threads since I argued it wouldn't take much more than one halfway decent self-contained episode to totally reverse the shows fortunes and it'd probably come close to the end. Going to be a curious month.

For the first time ever volume 2 is in the top 100 anime and all of them continue to surge upward. Starting to look like I'm going to be proven right after all. It's just disappointing to see this scenario yet again while so many other good shows this season can't manage much of anything. Overall much like Summer sales are pointing to a very unhealthy industry where a couple of titles with pretty well pre-destined success profit and pretty well everything else bombs or breaks even. It's really hard to remain hopeful for the future of this medium sometimes, especially looking at the overall predictions for a season like this. When Fall seasons are bombing and it's only the usual suspects succeeding yet again plus the assortment of cute girls and light novel based shows, if I'm a producer anywhere besides one of the big publishers I'm starting to worry about my job security.

It just makes it SO unbelievably hard to be hopeful for the future if your not into the Non Non Biyori's, Infinite Stratos', Monogatari's or whatever the heck てさぐれ-部活もの translates too of the anime world. If you are great, if not...well just gotta cross your fingers that producers are still willing to throw money after bad or that one of the big three that can do merchandising instead can keep it up.

Nope. Last episode was overall very good, perhaps even better than idol one. What's more, it was incredibly important plot-wise, explaining MANY things, you could basically say it redeemed the show by explaining all the stuff which felt illogical/dumb/confusing over past two months. You could say so and many do but I won't forget as easily. KnK remains bad show in my book but can actually become decent in the end. Japanese fans seem to share my sentiments saying it's too late for KnK. Actually, reception is much warmer in the West where episode 10 is commonly regarded as masterpiece. Many Japanese found it confusing.
V1 has yet to touch top100 since 24.10.13

Episode 10 wasn't "halfway decent self-contained episode". It wasn't halfway decent - it was a masterpiece. What's more, setting tastes aside, you are factually wrong saying it was self-contained. No. Episode 10 was connected to rest of the show much more than any other single episode.

Episode 10 is huge because thanks to it, previous episodes started making sense.

I'd like if you stopped behaving as if this list was worth anything.

Not going to get into shit much with you hear again Progeuz, but I don't go tossing the term masterpiece around lightly. That was not even remotely close to a masterpiece by my standards, maybe yours, but not mine. Few things are though. Also self-contained in the sense that most episodes have been on the lower end of mediocre at best featuring lots of bad comedy while I felt this was at least an effort. I don't give the masterpiece label to things I consider to mainly just be patching up the narrative and would sooner argue why the show couldn't have made more sense 10 episodes ago when it really counted. Sometimes people are just far to forgiving and while I agree the last arc can now be made a decent one I don't see how they're going to fix what I see as a hollow relationship between the two leads that the show now seems to be trying to treat as the core of it's narrative, the mess that is the exposition of the whole universe and it's machinations, and flesh out the practically non-existent supporting cast anymore in the remaining 2 episodes. Considering the head writer has admitted that they've already changed who the final antagonist is and had to rewrite things to accommodate this (that explains a lot too) I'm not holding out too much hope on the final confrontation front making terribly much sense either.

Odds are the show isn't overly concerned with any of that though knowing how Kyoani tends to operate and is instead gunning for the usual emotionally manipulative at all costs stuff ala Chuunibyou that's going to have people that aren't overly concerned with consistency claiming the show reduced them to tears or had them cheering and how everything is now magically fixed with it's narrative. I'd say it's probably their best bet, I'd just hope they don't screw up the now almost functional narrative anymore in the process since I know it's such a secondary concern at this point and probably always has been.

You are gonna be proven wrong and you are gonna still continue to the next Kyo ani anime or SHAFT or w/e you think represent why the industry is ''bad'' and claim the fans are blind and buy anything because of the studio.

I think I already said I'll consider the theory debunked if Kyokai does what the current predictions say it will but the situation keeps changing. One decent episode and the show has a massive unprecedented reversal of fortune albeit mostly for the first two volumes. What happens when the finale airs two weeks from now which is sure to be emotionally manipulative going by Hanadas twitter comments. Granted it'd need to have even more unprecedented gains and practically quadruple its current stalker total in about a quarter of the time, but if any studio has given me reason to give them the benefit of the doubt in this area its Kyoto Animation. 4 weeks seems like plenty of time to me.

Am I to understand it now we are making this stuff personal? What exactly are you people afraid of anyway that it comes to this stuff. Are you afraid I might be right? Frankly I'm still not convinced I'm right all at but its not like the shows trend hasn't clearly changed. Anyway I think I've finished identifying the full extent of the group that clearly has it out for me by now. No need to name names, they know who they are.

Yep we're making it personal. Sigh typical MAL. You know don't tell me why you think my post is wrong like symbv just claim it is, get your buddies to jump into the thread and dog pile and start claiming to be laughing at my posts without even responding. Look I don't really care about that stuff, it doesn't reflect poorly on me this time in the long run after all, it's just the kind of typical stuff that kind of just helps give more credence to the things I say about certain fan types so while I lament the lost conversation I more than welcome it in the long run. In the end I still plan on freely admitting if I'm wrong but I really do wonder how people will respond if I'm not since they still claim the odds are long. If anything that intrigues me.

Yeah more or less I said that if Kyoukai didn't end up the best selling show of the season I'd consider the market more competitive than I give it credit for and that its not a given that the Kyoani show will always be the best seller, other people set the arbitrary 4.5K limit on the show so that's more of a secondary proof since I've heard it insisted that its all but impossible for it to pass that threshold now. Also hey thanks for actually asking me a question instead of lamenting my existence. Funny though how within minutes of me ever posting about this show on these threads I can summon up several familiar faces all at the same time without ever personally addressing any of them.....

Where exactly am I backpedaling? He asked for a clarification and I gave it to him. Quit assuming I'm like those disingenuous people that try to change history in order to suit their egos. I'm not the kind of person you're trying to make me out to be here. Considering people are absolutely certain its not going beyond those numbers it could just as easily serve as a benchmark in and of itself, but that's other people's, the guys right though I did set that best selling benchmark for myself way back when and if I can find the post later I'll gladly quote it here myself just to prove that I'm not the delusional liar this Lynch mob is trying to make me out as.

Frankly I don't even know why I'm bothering anymore though cause people have already decided how things are going to turn out with my claims in the next 5 weeks. I guess its just a will to see things through and prove that I'm not the caricature people make me out to be.

Yeah, we should start the pool for Madoka Magica Rebellion now! With the recap movies over 100K I wonder if it can go even higher than that? Is 180K too conservative? Or did most of that 100K belong to the 80K that already bought the TV series singles?
