Synopsis
When Studio Gin'ei commissions filmmaker Gen'ya Tachibana to make a documentary in commemoration of its 70th anniversary, he travels to a secluded mountain lodge to interview the idol of his youth, the enigmatic Chiyoko Fujiwara, who was the studio's leading lady from the 1930s until the 1960s. As Chiyoko reminisces about her life, Tachibana and his cameraman suddenly find themselves on a rich and dazzling journey through time. Chiyoko's films and personal memories intertwine with present events and stretch the boundaries of reality.

Trailer

In commemoration of Satoshi Kon it was decided that one of his films would be featured as the next movie of the fortnight after his very sudden and unfortunate death. A poll was made and we as members of this club (well, nine of us at least!) chose Millennium Actress to bid him farewell. The results of the poll can be found here. Now let us indulge ourselves in the work of a true master that will never be forgotten.

Sadly, I lost the poll... I'm really a Satoshi Kon fan. Perfect Blue is my favorite, but I like all the movies that were in the poll (Paprika wasn't a great movie as the others, but still, very nice). Millennium Actress is a movie I'd recommend to anyone. Also, if you like his chaotic narratives and are interested in a little bit more dark story (not as dark as Perfect Blue, but something with a little dark humor) I suggest Paranoia Agent, his 13 episodes series.

I watched it today, my third time in total and it's just as great as it was when I first saw it. Satoshi Kon was truly a genius and Millennium Actress is a masterpiece. The sadness of the ending hits harder now that Kon has passed away. It's upsetting knowing he died with so much more to offer, but at least he left us with a lot to admire.
