Hum... Is she... retarded? No, retarded may be too harsh, but holy fuck is she guillible. What was she expecting from a relationship with a older married man whom she didn't even knew his name? Instead, she ended up looking like a slut and wasted adolescence for a man who just wanted a sex date. If that's not the definition of a fool... I feel bad for her though, she's a naive girl and got manipulated easily. I know it's a touchy subject, but I don't understand why Jun didn't try to put some senses into her.

I feel bad for Souji. Nana took Jun advice a bit too literally xD
At the same time, she's totally crazy, I'm not sure whether he would have dodged a bullet. We'll see in the future.

I guess she'll get interested in music in that club. The transition at the end made me think so.

Should I say that the normal Nana is a 『stupid annoying bitch』? Seriously, she kept screwing for a year with a guy she doesn't know and consider that love... But I'm curious how she ended up with Shouji.

I can't wait for the punk Nana's backstory :D

Wow so Nana was pretty naive and fell in love very easily. It's no surprise she fell prey to that predator who used her as a booty call.Anyways it would figure that the moment when she stops searching for love she becomes blind to Shouji being attracted her lol.

I'm glad this series already established itself about her being on her own. If this story had begun in the past like this episode I'm not sure if I would have that receptive. But everything in this episode was still interesting. Now I know I like Nana and look forward to seeing throughout the story.
Great supporting cast too.

Well, I found this past version of NanaKuro to be rather annoying. I don't think she's a slut, that doesn't really fit her. Besides, she only had 1 sexual relationship through all of high school. (Or relationship period, the rest were crushes.) She is horribly idiotic though, in several ways.

I get that this is backstory to explain how NanaKuro became who she is, but you simply don't recover from being so stupid. If anything, you double down and fix yourself into the same cycle of behavior. She's either severely lacking in some areas of intelligence, or she's not dumb but has debilitating psychological disorders.

Not to say she's bad, but the two characters just don't seem to connect for me, this younger version becoming the older version. So we can either look forward to her continuing to be annoyingly idiotic, or this is just a BS backstory that might as well be ignored.

Heh so there is much more back story in anime than in live movie Nana! :D Good that I haven't finished movie and saw only first 20 minutes. I didn't spoil so much.

Now about anime, this episode was very funny I found few similar things I got with white NaNa :D I also curse demon lord for my bad luck (but not about love issues) and also that she cannot live alone. However white Nana is too easy for giving her body to men :D
Where is the story abut black Nana? Don't tell me it will be after she graduate from this art school?! I want black Nana!

oh yeah episode 5/5

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

You know what, that would be the attitude of a teenager not born in the same time as you did.
And I'd say there still are a lot of teens as naive as Nana is, I don't believe the other way around.

Is she feeling guilty? Or is she feeling used?
Both maybe. she's feeling guilty because she was so taken from this love story that never got the istinct to actually care about the other person background, she felt the love he gave her was all she needed, and as long as she got it that was all that mattered.
It almost like they used each other.
It was two people in need of some love.
Maybe.

You all don't like this Nana? HOW IS SHE A SLUT.
She a crush on a lot of guys like I'm sure you all have. She had like 4 or 5 boyfriends during highschool. I don't think that makes her a slut. Maybe she just falls for men easily.

veronicarose said:
ugh how can any of you say nana is a slut, or she's had a lot of boyfriends? she only crushed on all of those guys, and only dated one. she was a normal high school girl, i don't see her that way at all!

Hello where've u guys been? She's been sleeping around with them too! Not only she f***ed her teacher but even beded a married man too! - She sought sex explicitely duh! I don't know what high school u people go or went to or in what country u are but when I went to high school girls weren't that loose! From my perspective if a girl is like that in high school I don't know how she's gonna turn up in her 20s (hopefully at this rate by 25 she'd probably have bedded like 30+ men and you people are going to say that's normal!)? If that doesn't make someone a slut I don't know what does. This just goes to show how in modern society the distinction between girlfriend/mistress/escort/model/prostitute is getting more and more blury.

This is one of the most idiotic misogynistic posts on MAL. Although this poster ha said way worse on MAL about women during the course of this series, this post is just plain stupid since it's clear as day that Nana only had Asano as a boyfriend during high school if you can even call him that.

Pretty disturbed by all the slut shaming in this post.

Anyway, I don't like that Nana was in a relationship with a married man and had no qualms about it. That's really unethical of her, but it's pretty much her only sin from the past.

These were exactly the two things I felt like saying. Thank you for saying them.

Aha, Nana is a hopeless romantic of sorts. I feel like she's somewhat broken inside, and so she clings to any guy that she finds attractive. I felt my eyes rolling at a lot of parts of this, but I understand the behavior.

The one thing I didn't like was how they put her prelude in Episode 2. Usually you'd wait until mid-series or until it's relevant... but they somewhat recovered from that by making it have relevance to the story, instead of it just being a meaningless flashback.

Poor Nana was desperately looking for love without to realize what really counts. I like it that after the introduction episode, they already start to illuminate her character with a flashback.

NANA certainly gets melodramatic. This isn't necessarily bad, but it's just a bit more than what I expected this early on. Also, going all the way back in time before Nana and Shouji met was somewhat jarring, but I understand the intent of introducing both Nanas in the first episode to establish the show's main dynamic.

The misogyny is rife in this thread. A married man almost in his 30s preys on and has sex with a girl in her late teens, and yall are calling her the slut. And blaming it on her for being heartbroken because she was gullible and naive. Duh, she hadn't even hit her 20s yet. Wild.

Well this was horrifying, that man was having relationships with a high schooler and the fact the girl takes it so seriously and gets hurt...

I would feel worse for her but people who make romance the focus of their lives annoy me. I mean.. I guess I did try to find love once to be happy too, but it still annoys me! it annoys me to feel reflected in those delusions, and it creeps me out how she fell and had a dream broken with a man much older than her. I just hope she grows as a character.

I can relate a lot to her in some ways. It hurts to see a young girl consumed by love. It's easy when you're younger to be consumed by the fantasy of romance if you don't have other outlets/interests. I'm not sure of her home life yet but it definitely doesn't feel like she has strong and healthy relationships to look up to. I'm glad I waited till I was in my 20s to watch this show.

I hope to watch her growth and hopefully healing (fingers crossed)

Sorry but Nana is realistic for a lot of people I know. Is sleeping with a married man a good idea? No, but Nana is naive, just like many people are at that age.

Great episode, by the way. :)
Finally a sensible comment in this thread! I was starting to lose hope in humanity scrolling through here... granted a lot of these comments are years old, but still.

To those people in this thread, Nana isn't a "slut" for sleeping with one guy throughout high school.
She was young, dumb and naïve. Of course it's wrong since he's married, but she was a gullible child with no real love experience.
Asano was older, and should have known better. She was underage, she's a helpless romantic who just had random guy crushes up until meeting Asano. And she was taken advantage of.
The sexist and double standard vibes I'm getting from some of the other guys in this thread is crazy. I musta read the words "slut" and "bitch" in here like 20 times..
I guarantee if the roles were reversed and Nana was a teenaged boy in high school who got in a relationship and slept with an older married woman, he wouldn't be called a slut.
In fact he'd probably be praised and celebrated for scoring with a "MILF"

Now.

I really like this extended-flashback-episode structure, actually. We start by getting a basic feel for the main characters and who they're intended to be, then we go back and spend a little time seeing how they got to be the ways they are. A nice luxury to have from your show being 47 episodes long! If we'd gone purely in chronological order, I bet a lot more people would be put off by the character flaws we're shown. (Not that I would have been. I have a pretty easy time sympathizing with earnest people, even if they do it wrong.)

And speaking of. Poor Nana K is a lovestruck fool, but it's endearing to see her so cockeyedly optimistic about it even after so many failures. Those of us who "wisely" sat out romance for far too long in our young lives might even look up to her plucky, unhesitating, never-say-die spirit about the whole thing. You just want her to succeed, y'know? You can't help cheering her on. C'mon, Nana, you can do this!

At the same time, as others have pointed out, you should probably figure out who you are alone before you start attaching yourself to another. But that's not exactly written in the instruction manual, so I can't fault anyone too much for screwing this up.

Jun, on the other hand, seems to be nearly the polar opposite. She has everything almost disturbingly together for someone fresh out of high school (she comes off almost like a 30-year-old), yet still manages to snag a boyfriend within like five seconds without even trying. It would be easy for Nana K to resent and envy her for all that. But no, Nana's way too good a person to fall prey that kind of thinking.

I'm a little intrigued by the prevalence of "no-no" activities going on so far. So many smokers. So much drinking (even underage!). Two episodes in, two nude-in-bed-and/or-lovemaking scenes. This ain't your standard sanitized fare!

It turns out Shoji is almost a Rule 63 version of Nana K. That's kinda funny, but also a bit of a surprise given the previous episode's characterization.

I don't know why, but the shot of Nana K descending into the hole-in-the-ground dance club at the end seems pretty ominous. Could just be my own revulsion against such clubs, though.

In conclusion, so far this is looking as great as its reputation seems to be!

"If you were a guy Junko I'd go out with you." I loved this episode. In this episode I discovered more about who Nana is as a person. I hate how her most recent guy she was with was a married man who took advantage of her. Last episode Shouji seem to be ungrateful and cold. This episode we saw how they met at the art school and how their friendship starts out. She likes him but Junko thinks impossible for Nana to think of a guy as just a friend. She ends the episode asking for help to find a man to move on and mend her broken heart.
