Or ripping off all your clothes, gagging and tying you to a tree behind the school. Or beating your friend to death with a bat. Or... I don't remember what else they did in Jigoku Shoujo.

A puppy was beaten to death in Elfen Lied and all that I mentioned (and more) is from Jigoku Shoujo.

2. Japan is even weirder than I thought.

I can't argue at all with this. I always knew that the Japanese were capable of great achievements in weirdness, but anime has shown me that I had underestimated them. It would take a lot to out-weird some of the anime that I have seen. I feel like my life has been enriched by the exposure to weirdness that anime has provided to me.

Aside from this, anime is popular culture, and popular culture often doesn't have much to say. A lot of it is mindless fun. There isn't anything wrong in that, but one cannot gain any profound knowledge from it either.

Of course, there are the usual insights into Japanese culture, but I have to be mindful of the fact that anime likely distorts aspects of the culture, so it is probably not a very good teacher even if there is some truth behind its depictions.

Some series have more to say than the usual slice-of-life shows and mindless comedies that I tend to watch. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, for example, has some interesting messages beneath its cynicism, and it may well inspire my future writing by giving me some inspiration for weird ways to tell stories.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

That the Canadian education (for math) is garbage. Elementary algebraic concepts like the FTA was never introduced in any of my math classes, yet was mentioned by an anime character in grade 10 (though surprisingly, it would be a late time to waste time studying that where the concept is relatively simplistic and late for teaching algebra). I remember looking over the IOI and STEP papers and wondering why every question was virtually impossible even for AP calculus students unless you spent time reading up discrete math. Thus I came to the conclusion that countries around the world not including NA have abstract algebra in their math curriculum.

i don't understand half of what you said...
but when you have supossedly stupid characters in anime, and they manage to solve a math question.. i feel stupid since it didn't even make sense to me..

they pretty much only thought me about deviding numbers and measuring spaces/dept... and i don't even think i can still do that..

Being a lonely nerd means tons of women will randomly appear in my life and fawn over me like little girls do over J. Bieber.

Rape and incest is ok, it's all fun anyways!

The power of friendship will save me from the most dire situations. Gotta protect my nakama bro!

Movies and other media don't focus nearly enough on panty shots.

When I finally get my harem for being a shut-in, I need to avoid them at all costs, and try not to have any sex with them, or even a kiss.

Statistically, there are decent number of shows which have childhood friend as a lover. Why they're always doomed to lose, is because this kind of character background is being overused in everything (not only anime/manga, but also games, VN's, LN, you name it. And most of the time, the 'aloof-mysterious-transfer-student-most-popular-somehoew-got-close-to-MC' girl gets the vocal of a show because they're the one who sets the plot on motion. Either in harem or in not-harem, romance or not-romance.

Some comments have been just plain funny. Dont know if the op was serious about this. For me anime is not a learning ground or can be any type of moral ground, its just a type of entertainment.

But by reading these posts i found out that i get entertained very easily.
