Have you ever seen a show so bad.. Or maybe even so good that you just need to take a Hiatus from Watching anything? This happens to me at least 16 times a year

Monogatari

Like lately with second season.

It's one of my favorite anime series an all, possibly my favorite, but god damn that stuff takes a toll on you if you're immersed enough.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

Steins;Gate is the only anime I can think of where I need a grace period before watching another anime. If I don't take some time after watching it then I unintentionally end up comparing the anime I'm watching to Steins;Gate and it ruins the viewing experience.

Steins;Gate did that for me.

I had to take a break from this awesomeness after I finished it. Also, you get this feeling that no matter what you watch, it will never reach this level, which is kind of depressing.

I've seen some I've put on hold due to lack of interest but none that made me stop watching anime entirely for an extended period of time.

It kinda-sorta has only happened once. When I was halfway through After Story, I stopped watching it, and all anime, for about 6 months. Not really sure why, but yeah.

Yeah, it's happened once for me.

Sometime in 2007, while I was in the middle of watching Eureka Seven, and buying all of the DVDs, I started to slow down.
While I didn't think the show was horrible, it just seemed not as impressive or cool as all the stuff that I had watched before it. Stuff like Paranoia Agent, Gantz... even slice-of-life stuff like Genshiken. These were all shows that I loved for different reasons. However, It seemed like most of the anime began taking a shift sometime around 2005 to adopt more cute, "moe" art styles that I wasn't really fond of. By 2007, these art styles were really popular, and creators, at the time, showed no signs of adopting any of the art styles I prefer. It seemed like every series I looked at had a horrible-looking art style, and this depressed me.
So, after completing Eureka Seven, the only thing I watched for a while was Naruto Shippuden, which I also stopped watching eventually, as I slowly began to lose interest in it, completely stopping my anime-watching habits sometime mid-2008.

I ended up watching the first few episodes of Sonic X sometime in late 2009, while working with a friend on a fandub project, but it wasn't until mid-2010 that I really got back into anime, after discovering Kara no Kyoukai. I watched all 7 of the Kara films, and thought they were incredible.
This prompted me to start getting back into anime films, but later that year, I also started watching some anime series again. I started with Panty & Stocking, then moved on to Detective Conan, starting it from the beginning, after remembering how much I enjoyed Case Closed when it was broadcast on Adult Swim.
It was around this time that I also briefly attempted to get back into Naruto Shippuden... watched up to the end of the current storyline at the time (Attack on Konoha) and never went back to it ever since.

This brief break on anime really caused me to re-think the specific things I enjoy about anime, and has made me a bit pickier when choosing an anime to watch, but I think that's also somewhat of a good thing.

Sixteen times a year? That's more than once a month. What's the minimum length of a hiatus? Can't be more than a few weeks in your case.

Anyway, poor translations made me quit a few times. Not an anime itself. If it's bad, I drop it and look for something else.

Breaks because the show was bad.

After a lot of episodes of Fairy Tail I opened my eyes to how shit it was. Same goes for Toradora. I almost drop anime as a whole that stuff was SOOOOOOO BAAAD!

Break because it was good.

I toke huge breaks from anime 2-3 months after watching Kuroko no Basket, and One Piece.

I got really sick of anime after zooming through 500+ As for KnB well lets just say I was on the basketball court nearly every day.

If it sucks, I simply watch another one that's good. Why the need for a break? Same goes for a very good show. I won't take a break for this sort of reasons.

Bad

I think Eyeshield 21 got me to stop watching other than weekly Naruto episodes a while back, don't completely remember though. A few times I would take breaks completely when Naruto went on a filler spree.

Edit: in terms of taking a break when a show was good it would have to be One Piece after watching 400+ episodes over a 2 month span

That happened to me recently during this season. I just watched Sonico's third episode, got sick of it, and dropped it. I was barely watching anything for a week or so afterwards and filled the void with manga.

Well, my first ever anime was ouran high school host club, which I hated so much. I had to not watch anime for a while to get around how much I hated it and for a few days, I thought that anime was horrible, when in actual fact, it is epic! Soul eater helped me to recover.
This was the closest I could get to answering.

Yes. I watched Shugo Chara. Season one was good... Season two was alright... and then I tried soooo hard to watch season three. I made it through one episode, and then ended up taking a six month break from anime. -.-' After that I watched a really amazing anime and started watching other anime again. I will never again try to watch season three of Shugo Chara.

I only made it about halfway through Eyeshield before I stopped, will pick it up again eventually to give it a fair chance. The character progression was just too slow, in 60 episodes Sena only really learned how to do one thing different from the first episode and it didn't seem like any of the other characters had changed at all.
