I've already made a video on this, but i'd thought i'd make the same thing on here, mostly because there were a few points that i left out of that same video that i might as well address here.

so i will now explain why i think hidan no aria is not a good show.

(keep in mind i dropped the show after episode 6, so this is based on what i have witnessed thus far.)

first off, the plot. as far as stories go, HnA has one of the worst. In japan, there's a school that trains TEENAGERS to be armed detectives. so it's basically, them learning how to use weapons and solving crimes, even though there's the chance they might get badly injured, let alone die! i'm starting to bet child labour no longer exists in this setting.

the fact that this was directed by takashi watanabe is unbelievable (he directed the slayers tv series), because the plot is so badly executed it's insulting, just like the writing! the characters would do and say some rather imbecile crap to the point where i wanted to punch myself in the face.

oh wait, i did numerous times watching this.

here's some examples:

how about when aria punched kinji JUST FOR ACCIDENTLY TAKING HIS DRINK HAVING A SIP!

or when shiroyuki says OUT LOUD that she must be kinji's wife just for giving him a bento twice in one day.

Not just that, but there scenes and situations that feel forced upon, like when kinji kisses aria in episode 5. not just that but hardly anything makes any sense! the plot twists make me think the creator(s) think we're that stupid enough to believe that aria is the descendent of sherlock holmes and riko is the descendent of arsene lupin.

bull

these two girls have no similarities between these two icons. it's as if the original creator was watching the history channel and saw holmes and lupin and thought "why not?" maybe it's different in the novels, but in the anime, it's as unconvincing as you could imagine. plus, another stupid twist the fact that she was kinji's dead brother's former lover was unbelievably laughable.

since i already mentioned the characters, how bout i talk about them for a while?

i'll start off with aria because she irritated me to know end. it's obvious that since she's a tsundere, i will hate her, and i do. not only is she violent (shooting at kinji forgetting the fact that she might KILL HIM!), spoiled and selfish, unreasonable, an idiot, and annoying as fuck. when she said "i have no friends, nor do i need any" i sarcastically said, "i wonder why?" and before anyone says anything, yes i know about when she gave kinji the stuffed cat toy, yes that was nice of her, but that was the ONLY time she was nice to him, let alone anyone else! the nicest thing i can say about her is her issue with her mom being in jail, that's it!

i tried to like kinji, but in the end, he's about as interesting as a popsicle stick. though i will admit his hysteria mode is cool, (it's too bad it's a ripped off the mega playboy from D.N.A2,) but he rarely uses it!

shiroyuki is nothing more than your typical childhood friend who pines for the male lead, though compared to aria, she's so-so. my issues with her is that she gets teary eyed at the prospect of kinji getting hurt (wouldn't be surprised if she flipped if he ever stubbed his toe), not that it's a bad to worry for someone's safety mind you, but here it just feels annoying.

the only character that interested me was riko. started off as a perverted otaku, but turned out she was the copycat butei killer (the only decent plot twist) with a slight manic touch to her.

everyone else isn't worth mentioning because they're either so forgettable or uninteresting. also, NO ONE FUCKING DEVELOPS! i haven't seen a shred of character/relationship development in this show, the characters just remained static as if there isn't anything worth improving on them!

well are there any good things about HnA? answer: some.

art/animation is alright (the models can go off a some points, quality drops in a few parts, and i felt the CG was badly made.) the voice acting is listenable, the bus-hijacking scene was engaging, and of course, hysteria mode and riko. that's all.

before i finish this, if you like this show, please don't take this in any offense, it's my opinion, that's all and i couldn't care if you have a different view on it than i do.

with all that said, well.......later.

the earthquake and tsunami in japan is a complete travesty, one of the worst things to happen in a long time. so many lives were lost, many people suffering now, buildings and homes destroyed. it's a very sad moment. i'm glad to see many countries trying to help japan in this time of need.

what i'm not glad to see, however, was the shocking and flat out disturbing people said regarding this matter

i want you all reading this, to take a look at this image i found on a youtube video. it features some of the most appalling reception to a natural disaster i've ever heard in my life.

http://i.imgur.com/o9hr8.jpg

that's right, these people refuse to give a helping hand to japan because of pearl harbor.

an event that happened 60 YEARS AGO!

trust me i wish this was a (sick) joke.

i'm sorry but how is something that happened in the past relevant today? that's because IT'S NOT RELEVANT! IT'S THE PAST, YOU FUCKING MORONS!

it is at this point that i've lost faith in, not just humanity, but the new generation, because it's filled with complete ignorant imbeciles. any person with half a brain cell, wouldn't post such shit like:

"enough about the japs who gives a shit they bombed pearl harbor let them all die they would be happy if that happened to us!"

NO THEY WOULDN'T YOU BRAINLESS ASSHOLE!

america and japan are allies now! as i stated, all that happened in the past! you'd think that time went on japan would begin to feel sorry for bombing a US navy base in hawaii and ask for forgiveness (after we bombed them back). well such is the case now. but no, people don't think so and bring up an old event thinking it's relevant to today. retards.

after i heard that, i ended up losing faith in youtube partners. why? because one YT partner, named lifeinatent, EXPLOITED THE CAUSE IN JAPAN FOR MONEY! no joke people. you all can find videos including rants and commentaries of him on youtube now. this guy disgusts me, he actually said thumbs up this video and called the earthquake "EPIC". he called an 8.8 earthquake "epic", even though that very same "epic" earthquake took over a thousand lives in the process.

all this guy cared about was his goddamn partnership and the money he'll make off of this.

you now see why this man disgusts me?

his reaction to the people calling him out? flagging videos and acting like a butthurt crybaby, by that i mostly meant "trying" to defend himself from this (and failing horribly mind you).

that's all i have to say regarding LIaT, if you want more about this dude, i recommend checking this video out:

there's one last thing i have to say before i end this.

my friend artist-for-hire made a blog about this and i thought i bring it up too. on a blog on funimation's website, people were upset about the cause and are willing donate, one user though named hectotane had this to say:

"…and hopefully; after realizing the value of their own lives, the animu industry will finally stop reducing the value of the characters they created for the mere sake of lulz. No more crap like Heaven’s Lost Property, Infinite Stratos, K-on, Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, on down.
And before everyone tries to “Bill Mahr” me, let us all remember that natural disasters are NEVER a laughing matter. The lot of these can take the lives of even the most prepared.
My true hope, after everything and everything, is that a wide-ranging search will be initiated; a search for the individual’s soul"

wow.....just wow

this inhuman piece of human waste actually called this karma for japan making anime he hated.

no. JUST NO.

dude, you expect animation companies to look at this as a change? to make anime with better quality? bull. total bull. it's fine to bitch about anime you hate, but why now of all times?! you are a fucking idiot hecto, people are dying and suffering from the disaster that struck them, but what's more important? anime. please for the love of christ get your head out of your ass and grow a goddamn brain!

(here's the link to the brain damage hectotane brought upon):
[url]http://blog.funimation.com/2011/03/massive-earthquake-hits-japan/?cp=1

ok. i'm done venting. please people, show you care, donate to japan and help out. i'll do the same thing.

and to all the people who are opposed to this disaster, in the words of woody alan:

"you all can go fuck yourselves"

later.

I'm not gonna lie, i've meet some awesome people here on MAL, but at the same time, i've had the dread of meeting/coming across some of the biggest idiots i've seen on the internet.

valarclan, is one of those idiots.

For those who don't check the review section on here, val has made some reviews on dragon ball, Z, and kai. and they are fucking horrible. now i love the dragon ball series (GT doesn't exist), but the reason i said they suck, not because i'm a fan, but because of how piss poor and insultingly stupid they all were.

here's a sample from his DB review:

"Maybe the show is geared to slow witted people or just really slow people.
Never liked this show, never will.

There are way better more thoughtfilled anime's out there.
The entire series reminds me of the trouble Marvel Comics had when they started having Rob Liefield do a number of comics."

see what i mean?

where do i begin!? how about the fact that he blatantly insults those who love the show. it's one thing to hate a show, but it's another to bash it's fanbase. now i hate school days with a passion, but i've never called the people who like it complete retards for liking it. why? because it's their opinion! i really don't care if anyone likes the show because i'm not low enough to bash the fanbase of anything.

He also said this in his DBZ review (which was taken down, i wonder why), another reason he hated it was, and i kid you all not, it wasn't thought provoking or deep or philosophical.

i wish i was joking.

first off, IT'S DRAGON BALL FOR CHRIST SAKES! what were you expecting out of it!? it's a shonen anime, meaning there's gonna be fighting and nothing but fighting! if you (valarclan) wanna a thought provoking anime, go watch legend of the galactic heros, haibane renmei, or ghost in the shell.

oh and by the way, why were you expecting realism in an anime?! do you expect all anime to have some sort of realism?! IT'S FUCKING ANIME! a fucking cartoon! anything could happen! you could be a soul reaper at 15, you could perform alchemy without a transmutation circle, you could be the biggest loser in high school and yet have your own harem of hot babes, you could even suck on a pair of titties and gain super strength from 'em (cookies to those who know that reference there). first off i know there are anime that have realism and are philosophical, but if you think anime are all the same for one thing only, consider yourself brain damaged.

then there's the main reason why i think this guy is a complete dumbass: he deletes the comments of those who call him out and CALLS US MORONS FOR DISAGREEING WITH HIM!!!

seriously look at this screen caps here:
*sorry if it's too small, i can read it off just in case. go to his profile, it be easier*

valarclan, YOU FUCKING HYPOCRITE!

we call you out on your BS, you delete them, and you have the balls to insult us?! you are a fucking idiot, i'm sorry you really are. also i know very well that a review is meant to state an opinion, but unless you have good, valid, and understandable reasons to back it up, i'm sorry but your opinion is bull crap. it's also one thing to sate an opinion, but it's something different when stating it while being a complete twat about it. oh and thanks for saying that most of us aren't even out of high school when most of us are probably still in high school, but also in college. plus you said it's fine if we like DBZ, but yet you flat out call anyone who likes the series slow minded. can anyone say double standard?

all i'm saying now is that you shouldn't act like a dick towards others when you yourself aren't no better!

also, just when before he delete my comment, i told him to do it, because it'll prove me right on how immature and childish he's being. So much so that he changed his profile to that "only friends can comment on his page" thing. i'm betting he did that because he was butt-hurt from people calling him out or he doesn't want anymore people calling him out. I'm going with both.

(i didn't even think lovelyphantom could be this stupid.)

i really hope i don't make another rant regarding this guy, but even then i have a feeling he's gonna make more bullshit.

i'm done, later.

Hey guys lordcrab86 here with my first rant/blog in a LONG time. It’s about something that’s been talked about (on youtube) for a while and I thought I’d give my 2 cents in on the matter: biased anime fans, or those who refuse to buy anime on dvd and stick with fansubs and manga with scanlationsand make up exuses for not doing so. That sort of thing.

I wanna start this off with anime fans that keep to themselves about their hobbies. Most of them do this basically for the fact that if they tell their friends/family/loved ones that they like anime, they might not except you for what you enjoy, Which I find very petty because I for one find it stupid that they’ll turn your back on you over a Japanese cartoon. That and that’s their problem if they refuse to except you over that. I mean if your friends to that to you, then they’re not really your real friends, a real friend would except you for what you are and what you like, same goes for your family and boyfriend/girlfriend. I can understand if your afraid of being excepted over all that, but take it from me, I don’t care what people think and neither should you. Still though I rarely bring up anime in a conversation because the person I talk to will look at me as if I’m speaking in a foreign language like WHAT? So I only bring that up when needed.

Now onto buying dvds. Now most reasons people refuse to buy anime on dvd range from understandable to fucking stupid. One of the dumbest reasons is the English dubbing. i'm not so sure if you guys know, but most anime dvds have DUAL AUDIO TRACKS, meaning you can choose which language you watch the anime in. that aside, There are some reasons why people don’t buy anime is not only most are broke, but also, the pricing. Prices for anime dvds tend to vary like: what stores or websites that price them. Some range from good to pretty ridiculous. Some dvds tend to be expensive mostly apon release like around 50-60 dollars. Regardless though. Funimation and adv films (before they became section 23) started re-releasing their titles again in slimmer packs and cheaper prices. Adv released thinpacks, funi released the virididan versions; hell, media blaster would release their titles 3 times! And the third release would be the cheapest. So because of this you can still buy the dvds you want without breaking the bank. I’ve also heard that some say that anime dvds are more expensive than video games for that I say:

i really don't know what hole these people live under, but it’s the other way around since you can find anime at much cheaper prices.

And now manga scanlations. Most anime fans tend to read manga online, myself including, instead of reading it physically. There’s many reasons why people would do this type of thing: not just involving money but because it’s easier that way. That’s what I think. Think about this, most of the manga I read have never been released state side, not yet at least like yokohama kaidashi kikou, touch, and change 123. But also because the ones that are released here, I can’t find in most stores, that or some volumes are missing. A good example would be blood alone, it’s been released but i can’t seem to find it. I don’t buy manga as much as I do anime, but I occasionally do when I have the chance.

Now downloading. First off, I never download anime, I always watch them streaming but I’ll get to that in a moment. That and I happen to be against downloads and torrents mainly because I refuse to do so and it doesn’t do the anime industry any justice, I’m sorry that’s just how I roll. As for streaming I can openly admit that streams can be a double edge sword, for many many reasons. Some video players can have messy picture quality and can come off as blocky for few like veoh. Then you have those like megavideo that not only has a 72 minute time limit but you have to join and pay to watch all the videos you want, which is why I detest megavideo but digress. Then there’s the buffering, now this I think depends on the internet connection you have mostly as well as the video player itself. Sometimes the buffering will stop and you have to refresh the page so you can watch it again, I do this sometimes but I have a bit of patience for this so yeah. Regardless though I do this because I wanna see if the anime itself is worth my time, if I like what I see I’ll go out and buy the dvd.

I now would like to end the video with this: I buy anime and manga to support both the industry and it’s creators as well as my hobby as an anime fan. I say that just so I can say this: if you really love anime and have several favorites, buy them. Buy them and be happy and stop being a dick.

that's all i have to say, i'm done here

later.

...then you might like death note

*head desk*

holy fucking crap! i don't know if there's anyone out there that feels the same way i do, but i am getting so tired of looking into the recommendation box and seeing this:

"if you like code geass, then you'll like death note" (or if you like death note, you'll like code geass".)

why am i getting tired of seeing this you may ask? simple: because SO MANY HAVE DONE THIS!!! how many?

228

228 people on MAL have recommended death note if they have seen code geass, or the other way around.

it is literally at this point that if i see this again, i'm gonna lose it! i'm only assuming this, but i can guarantee that there are some people are like "ok we get it, code geass is like death note, ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!"

or maybe that's me

anyways, i'm done, i just had to get this off my chest. any thoughts? leave me a comment.

later~ -.-

*edit*

yet another person as did *it* again.

for that i say:

if this keeps up, i'm gonna kill something.

Well it's fine time for another movie review, today i review a movie that i just finished watching a while ago, Harmony Korine's "Gummo".

Gummo takes place in Xenia, Ohio, a small town that was once struck by a tornado in 1974. That was just a little background work there because the plot mainly consists of (somewhat) unrelated vignettes featuring the town folk, whom all range from: colorful, oddball, questionable disturbed, and insane.

I heard a lot of things about the movie before i saw it, saying that it was disturbing and shocking. And not just that, but the movie was bashed for it's lack of a plot. (i think there might of been more for this, but this is all i can think of.) Personally, i think anyone who said that might of missed the point of gummo. In my opinion, i felt Korine did a great job with the whole film, even for a directorial debut no less. I felt like he painted a shocking and blatantly honest look at american society. The people in this movie aren't cheerful, happy go lucky or anything of the sorts; the lives these people lead are hopeless, nihilistic, and rather dark and slightly repulsive. Gummo also touches upon some rough issues and themes like: racism, homophobia, sexual abuse, poverty, vandalism, grief, violence, animal cruelty, and what have you; nothing in this film is sugar coated just to let you know (hell there's even a part where a guy prostitutes his own sister, who happens to have downs syndrome!).

One thing i need to mention is the shooting. Most of the film was shot on a 35mm, but there were other parts were filmed on different (and also very old) set of cameras: polaroid, VHS, Hi-8, 16mm, and 8mm cameras were used to achieve a cheap, home movie-esque style of filming quality which i thought worked very very well for the movie.

The music is interesting ensemble of tunes that range from classics like madonna's "like a prayer", buddy holly's "everyday", and roy orbison's "crying" to the traditional children's song "my little rooster" and even to popular metal bands like sleep, burzum, eyehategod, bathory, and brujeria were used for the soundtrack. The music, overall, really fits in well for the tone of the movie.

As for the acting, i have never heard of any of these actors before, but regardless, they all did a great job of playing their roles. I also wanna give a shoutout to jacob reynolds as one of the film's main characters, solomon. He did a fine job of playing his character whose troubled and alienated.

Overall, Gummo is a movie that blew me away with it's style and creativity. While not really disturbing, it is a very weird film i'll admit, but it does one thing that most movies of it's kind do right: show us that the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows and can be, more often than not, a dark and gritty place. and we just have to live with it.

As much as i highly recommend this, i can only do so for anyone over the age of 17, and is more open minded on such matter present in the movie.

I give Gummo, a well deserved, 10/10.

Thanks for reading, please leave a comment

Later ^_^
