Hotblooded crazy samurai and ninja being all hotblooded and crazy in humorous over the top fashion. You expected something serious and vaguely realistically historical? Not here, baby.
(Sengoku Basara does hold the distinction of actually being enjoyable however)
Similar setting, same animation.
Same era
Same historical figures
Both have a samurai theme
Both take place in the Sengoku era, and have over the top fight scenes. They both include characters from actual history, and the story revolves around the conflict between these characters.
Both have action in the same era. Both have mostly the same characters.
the supernatural, some part of the story, characters

Both have the same characters, albeit BASARA is male-centric while Otome (as the name states) is female-centric. The story lines are more or less the same though Otome includes comedy that is lacking in BASARA, and is more casual and light with some added hints of yuri.
For one, none of the series can be taken seriously and they both cover the same time period and have the same characters.
However, while Sengoku Basara are action series with comedy, Sengoku Otome are the opposite, it is comedy with action.
Also most of the characters have opposite personalities in comparison to each other and in Sengoku Otome the main cast are females.
So if you want to see an altarnative version of one of the series, the other would be a perfect choice for that.
Basically the exact same storyline with Sengoku Otome having a all woman cast instead.
almost has the same cast of characters taken from Japanese History
except in Sengoku Otome, they are all female characters.
Look at their titles. How can you not see the resemblance?
The only difference is sengoku BASARA is for REAL men, where as sengoku OTOME are for closet pervert guys
The same anime theme with alittle ecchi and female casts instead of male

Though in terms of plot/settings Basara and TTGL are nowhere similar, they both feature over-the-top action that suspends belief and kicks logic to the curb, not to mention they have characters that are full of manly high spirited charisma.
Admittedly heavily different premise-wise, Sengoku Basara is an adaptation of the game of the same name, which focuses on wars in Feudal Japanese history. Yet the characterizations of the characters and the incredibly over-the-top combat style just evoke a feeling reminiscent of Gurren-Lagann.
Contain hyper-accelerated adrenaline induced manliness that not only kicks logic to curb the but then proceeds to beat it with a shovel
Bright costumes, crazy animation, and more epic-manly-over-the-top-dramatic-fight-scenes than you could ever think possible. These are the tarits that mark Gurren Lagann and Sengoku Basara. The plots are nowhere near each other in semblance, but both series certainly evoke the same feelings. Oh, those manly, manly feelings.
Similar animation, similar way of presenting.
Its not the setting or the animation that makes these anime similar, its the style. It has that way over the top epic action anime that makes you want to rooting for the characters in there fights.
Other similarities:
1.) It is an action anime with fighting and wars.
2.) A large cast of epic charaters.
3.) All characters have that "Epic Man Fighting Spirit" thing going on.

There is war. There are kingdoms. There are leaders. There are GARness and EXTREME fights. Cao Cao looks like Nobunaga. So, yes. both series are about wars. Both set in different countries and time.
If you got tricked by the historical tag, and expected a grand epic story and character development instead of just mindless shounen, then i suggest you check out Souten Kouro, which is based on Romance of 3 Kingdoms. It's seinen, meaning there is a lot of blood and some sex/nudity, and there is an actual story/plot to it. It is based on ROTK after all, which is considered one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, so that should tell you something.
Though set in different countries (Basara in Japan, Souten Kouro in China), both have similar themes of war. Characters are also somewhat similar if you choose to look at it that way.

Both focus on the Sengoku (Warring States) Era and feature a number of historical figures with major changes made to them. Sengoku Basara features ridiculous weapons and personality traits among the various famous generals and other figures, and has a general theme of "turn off your brain and enjoy the over-the-top badassery, instead of questioning things." Oda Nobuna no Yabou features a number of genderswitched historical figures, such as the title character, Oda Nobuna, and also employs the use of a boy from the future accidentally landing in the past and accidentally killing another historical figure so he ends up trying to keep history from getting too screwed up by helping out Nobuna.
Both are historical animes about Oda Nobunaga.
-Similarirites-
Both stories take place in the Edo period/Tokugawa period, thus are about warring countries being governed by feudal lords or daimyo, who confronted each other in an endless struggle for power, but it has more to it! ^_^
-Differences-
While Sengoku Basara has a more serious atmosphere to it and has way more action in it, On the other side Oda Nobuna no Yabou has more romance and comedy to it. Not to mention all the feudal lords/daymo are females! xD Enjoy~

Over the top, hot blooded manliness at it's best. If you watch shows for men who test their souls in battle, then this is for you.
They're the same show, except one has (more) gundams and stereotypes, while the other is limited to real people in Japan. Although, that Tadakatsu is suspiciously robotic...

Similar but Different ♥ A perfect combination to describe them differing from any other samurai story.
- Both series evolve around an awesome and epic samurai period.
- Of course, battles with swords wont miss in either of them.
- Main characters have the same badass side in both series, obviously.
- Now, it may be not be important for someone but i think is another good point to mention: the main characters (Mugen and Masamune) have been both played by the same voice actor (Nakai Kazuya) which makes high up the level of their charism even more.
Okay, all the above stuff maybe can be found in little doses also in some few other anime samurai themed but, here the part where Sengoku Basara and Samurai Champloo will surely differ by any other serie:
- They both have "something" that is definitely not common for their epoch or else not common at all.
Samurai Champloo is litterally hip-hop themed (from the opening, to some dress or some scenes) and even features modern other stuff (like the baseball or graffiti episodes) -- while Sengoku Basara is definitely over the limit of the reality, fight scenes in there are not the "typical-anime-fight-scenes" at all, plus it also features pretty modern stuff like can be "Gundam"-robots like.
So, even if the main plots are different (we have a girl that needs to find a person and due to this starts to travel with two samurais in Samurai Champloo // and on the other side we have Sengoku era with obvious big and incredible battles in Sengoku Basara),
for all the above said things they do share a lot of similar stuff and style, so i do advice do watch both :3
So now both series are similar because:
*They have a lot of sword fighting
*In both series you can feel something like meiji period when there were still samurais figting and in Sengoku Basara the period of Waring Countries of something, well anyway both have samurais
*The main thing why these are in common and different from others that there are things which are not common in japan at that period, both series are a little I could say Americanised like Samurai has rap or hip hop elements and Sengoku has some strange things around.
Also I could say that Samurai Champloo is somewhat similar to Rurouni Kenshin just more funny and modern.

Sengoku Basara is based off of the Sengoku era of Japan while Koutetsu Sangokushi is based off of the Three Kingdom era of China. The main focus of both shows is that the country is at civil war and is looking for a new leader to unify it. They both take a twist on the (historical) characters of the show and adds over the top fantasia to them. Although Koutetsu Sangokushi has more drama than Sengoku Basara, it still has plenty of action scenes to satisfy.

Both these anime forgo much logic choosing to take the path of fun ridiculous campyness over srs bsns realism. Not for those unable to allow themselves a good time, but sure to be enjoyed by the rest of us.

|
Both are they set in a historical era, with lots of wars and fights for freedom.
The main characters are leaders/great warriors, but in Sengoku Basara they're more centered on the personal fighting than in Utawarerumono.
They give off the same feeling and they can both be a bit boring sometimes, but if you liked one of them you'll most likely like the other one.
|
|
|
Both are in the same Edo era.
Both have major lodes of bishouen.
Both have samurai warriors.
And the artwork is similar.

What do these two series have in common you ask? Well, great animation, great writing, great characters, great action...
And a whole truck load of homosexual subtext that might as well be text. Both series are living in transparent closets and it's amazing to watch. You can call it bromance if you want but...eh, you're not fooling anyone.
Both of these series are awesome, with incredible traits that make them quality anime regardless of whether you like practically-BL, so you can pretend the male main characters aren't in love if it makes you feel better, just watch them. If you like one you'll like the other, trust me.

The antagonists of both anime are Oda Nobunaga. Both have great power and even are physically similar (both have a slight mustache).
There is also a Mori Ranmaru in both anime, but the concepts are different and are much more prominent in Yotoden.

These two series aren't very similar at all except that both have quite a lot of fighting scenes. Sengoku Basara has a samurai theme with historical names while Senran Kagura has a high school ninja theme with a bunch of ecchi added in. The reason why Senran Kagura reminded me of Sengoku Basara is because Homura is like a female Date Masamune, wielding 6 swords the same way and her personality is a bit similar too. xD

War, clans/kingdoms fighting for power in Japan (Sengoku Period) and China (Warring States), extreme fights and a struggle to unify the land under one ruler.
|
|
|
both have loads and loads of characters, and with ludicrous amount of ridiculously awesome action.
|
|
|
similar genres. the only difference is that Sengoku Basara involves super powers. while Shura no Toki keeps it simple.
|
|
|
Both are packed with action but also light humour in between. They aren't too deep but oh so enjoyable! And they leave you with a positive feeling after you watch them.
I also found that the two main characters resemble each other greatly.

Samurai. Manly. Epic. Funny. Both are amazing series that dare to go beyond the impossible and provide an infinite amount of entertainment.

In my opinion, that's what Ikkitousen should've been. Re-telling of famous war periods (the Three Kingdom era for Ikkitousen and the Sengoku era for Sengoku Basara). Different factions that beat the crap out of each other but with LOTS of action and more exciting fights in the case of Sengoku Basara.
However, there's not as much fanservice as in Ikkitousen. And Sengoku Basara is pretty much GAR and over the top.

Both are Tales of War with their own twists.

So much Engrish, SO MUCH.. arguably the most entertaining aspect of both shows.

Both these anime are set during the Sengoku (Warring States) Period of Japan, albeit with a few anachronisms thrown in, not least of all the presence of giant robots on the battlefield. A young Date Masamune is the main character for both series, although his personality is very different; Dullahan is a much more personal story about Masamune and his clan, whereas in Sengoku Basara Masamune is just one out of a huge and colourful cast. This also applies to the storytelling - in Sengoku Basara you get a look at the bigger picture regarding what was happening in Japan, whereas Dullahan is confined to Masamune's homeland in the north. Overall, Dullahan is much more faithful to history than Basara (mobile suits aside), and more serious in tone, but they are both Jidai Geki anime with a fun futuristic twist.

Both of these Animes take place in Sengoku Era, both has the same characters.

|
Hot-blooded manly men and super intense, stylish battles! Put ya guns on!
|
|
|
Same style of "all-out" comedy and fights but both still rely on a serious story-line to carry the series.
|
|
|
Both have
- Historical setting
- Characters with super powers
- Needless fighting
- Lots of action
- Warring clans
|
|
|
Koihime Musou is basically the same thing as Sengoku Basara. The few differences are that in Koihime Musou it is all girls and also in Koihime Musou the "special" moves aren't extremely over the top like they are in Basara but still over the top.
|
|
|
Both Scryed and Sengoku Basara share the constant fight to get stronger, while boasting good quaility and story. Within both the main characters fight each other to keep getting stronger. Moral Lines become blurred in both stories; friends become enemies and enemies become friends. Both featuring hot blood.
Sengoku Basara boasts "HORSE MOTORCYCLES OF GLORY AND ACTION PACKED PUNCHES OF NUCLEAR PROPORTION".
|
|
|
Both are about different groups with GAR, charismatic leaders trying to seize control of a given area. Lots of violence (more sex in Tokyo Tribe 2) and crazy, over the top fight scenes. No real difference other than one is set in modern Tokyo and the other in late 16th century Japan. (Sengoku Basara is a bit lighter and slightly less twisted.)
