More in depth overview:
Story: 7. The OVA is split into 2 episodes that are dedicated to their own stories. Episode 1 shows the interactions between a shota, Ayumu, and his sugar sister, Hinano. Hinano acts like an older sister to Ayumu and asks for "favors" from him afterwards. She likes taking control but is fine with a change of pace. Oh yeah, if you're into big mommy milkies but don't want the mommy, then Hinano is the girl for you. Episode 2 features two different characters that finally reunite after high school graduation. Takanori Doi comes across a collapsed Tokiko Kurahashi and decides to take her to an inn and find out what led to her being collapsed. The two later get drunk and you can fill in the rest.
Art: 8. Girls Rush is one of those rare instances of vanilla not being left on the back burner. Unlike other "animations" that look like traced frames warped with photoshop, Girls Rush actually looks pleasing to watch. The motions are smooth and intentional and actually feel physically possible. However, the main treat Girls Rush has to offer is the art style. It has a very rich color palette and isn't flat like others. It has a semblance to NTR in terms of art, but that's about it.
Sound: 7. The sound design for each episode felt like a cut above your typical D-tier hentai. Each sound felt like it was made for that specific scene and wasn't just grabbed from the top search result for "water spray" on a sound archive. Of course, there were a couple of instances with the voicing being a little off, but I wouldn't say it killed the experience for me.
Character: 7. In typical vanilla fashion, each character was basically made for each other. A minor concern about who gets to top who? Resolved without a hitch. Finally found the perfect drinking buddy and got hammered but don't want to blame alcohol for what's about to happen? Don't worry, the feelings mutual! Naturally, you can't have everything, so the characters themselves are pretty basic, but what do you expect from a two episode OVA with a total runtime of 30 minutes?
Enjoyment: 6. With all my high praises, why am I only giving this an enjoyment rating of 6? The conclusion I have come to is that it simply didn't resonate with me that much. Was it merely the lack of foundation for each of the characters' backgrounds? Was the runtime of each episode simply too short to leave a lasting impression on me? Or does the fault lie with me being too degenerate to get a kick out of vanilla anymore? The most likely problem is probably the last one, so take this category with a grain of salt.
Overall: 7. There is so much about Girls Rush that could put it up in top-tier vanilla land, but it simply does not have the runtime to develop each of the characters and stories more. But maybe I'm just too focused on what it could have been, rather than what it is. In any case, if you simply like good art styles or want a refreshing vanilla experience, I would highly recommend watching Girls Rush.
