*Spoiler Warning*
Kimetsu Academy is to Demon Slayer what Attack on Titan Junior High is to Attack on Titan: Cute, funny, wholesome bonus content for fans of the series that allows more screen time for your favorite characters in non-life threatening situations. Unlike AOT Junior High, you could probably get away with watching Kimestu Academy first before watching the main show, but I personally wouldn't recommend it as you likely wouldn't get much of the jokes or get context for the characters. The episodes are pretty short so you can very easily finish them in like 10 minutes. There’s not so much of a plot here
...
as it mostly introduces you into the world of the show.
The characters in Kimestu Academy are pretty loyal to their iterations in the original show, just with certain traits amplified for comedy (example: Giyu is the hard-pressed, stoic gym teacher, Nezuko doesn't speak because she always has a baguette in her mouth. Pretty much the only characters who're exactly the same are Tanjiro, Zenistu and Inosuke). The main characters of this show are mainly Tanjiro and Zenistu from the episodes that have been released so far (I think there's additional content out there but Crunchyroll has only brought over 7 episodes so far, including the Valentine’s special which I'll cover in another review.) Some other characters like Sanemi (The Wind Hashira) and Kanae (The Late Flower Hashira) make cameos but they don't really do much in the story. The characters also aren't in chibi form but a more cartoony version of themselves. There are also some characters such as Shinobu who don't make an appearance.
As I mentioned above, Kimetsu Academy's three episodes here introduces the characters into the world and there's some little skits that play out such as Giyu, their homeroom teacher, asking the main cast to introduce themselves and Zenistu and Inosuke getting in trouble. Tanjiro also gets scolded by Giyu for wearing his earrings. Not much to it, but it gets a good chuckle out of you seeing it play out.
All in all, it's a short and funny show. If you're a fan of Demon Slayer and want some lighthearted feels, you'll enjoy Kimetsu Academy. I wouldn't say it's as good as the original series, but it's still amusing to watch.
