After the second impact, all that remains of Japan is Tokyo-3, a city that's being attacked by giant creatures that seek to eradicate the human kind, called Angels. After not seeing his father for more than eight years, Shinji Ikari receives a phone call in which he is told to urgently come to the NERV Headquarters, an organization that deals with the destruction of the Angels through the use of giant mechs called Evas. Shinji's objective is to pilot the Eva Unit 01 while teaming up with the Eva Unit 00 pilot, Ayanami Rei.

To start of this review, let me make a quick statement, the layout of this review will be different than others as this is reboot series I won't go into heavy plot talk and will only brush over and mainly talk about the differences in story, same goes for the characters.

So to start I'll first discuss the movie's strongest point this being the art and animation. Firstly with art which has remained the same style wise which feels nostalgic and catches the feel of Evangelion. The art also changed though in good ways as the environment and characters have become drastically more detailed then in read more

So what happens you have a guy in a bout with depression direct a supposedly children’s super robot show? What you get my friends is what we call Neon Genesis Evangelion. Now flash-forward a few years and now said man is an accomplished director who is credited for making one of the most influential mecha anime to date. So of course he is happy as can be. Now said man intends to revisit his magnum opus yet again. What will became of this revisit soon to be called the Rebuild of Evangelion. The Rebuild of Evangelion was intended to introduce viewers previously unfamiliar with the read more

So it was really just Evangelion with better animation and the long scenes cut out.

First the Bad. I didn't think that I would have prefered to have the long scenes in the anime over having them cut out. This is assuming that you have watched Neon Genesis before, if you haven't then you probably have no idea what I am talking about. But the lack of the long scenes in the from the original anime results in a lack of character development and really just makes Shinji look whiny instead of realistic. Another thing was the lack luster soundtrack, they went from classic compositions to read more

[NOTE: Mild SPOILERS in this review]

I just got back from seeing Evangelion 1.0 in theaters, and it was some experience. Though I didn't end up bringing the boom box playing a ripped CD of Prince's 1999 (and a bloody shame that is, too) it was still a real treat. The crowd was bigger than I had anticipated - I wondered if I might actually have the theater to myself, this being such a niche release and all, but it turns out I was dead wrong. While I wouldn't say every row was packed - it wasn't exactly a Transformers crowd (though one guy did have read more

Anime: Mobile Suit Gundam I
Both of these films summarize the events of the early episodes in their respective series. Also, both of them feature a young pilot who has to pilot a mecha for the first time and is learning how to cope with that experience.

Anime: Aldnoah.Zero
-Both MC are unique, not something you see a lot
-Both series got mechas
-In both series they are in war (against Angels) (against aliens)
-Got both some epic OST
-Both got lots of destruction

Anime: Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 1: Hajimari no Monogatari
Both are remakes of the beginning of anime shows though Evangelion changed more things while Madoka Magica's plot is the same. They both have similar dark impressions. They are both about a group of people fighting against unknown creatures that are threatening to destroy humans. Even with these normal sounding plots, they are actually much deeper than they appear at first. Both Shinji and Madoka are faced with difficult decisions while being told to both do and not do something to save everyone. Sayaka develops in a similar way to Asuka and both of them just want to impress (and help) the person they love  read more

Anime: Shingeki no Kyojin
Both series are gory and revolve around constant threat from mysterious giants that appear out of nowhere with the intention of destroying human race and children fighting for all of mankind.

Anime: Shoujo Kakumei Utena: Adolescence Mokushiroku
Both anime deconstruct their respective genres, with Utena being a deconstruction of magical girl anime, and Evangelion being a deconstruction of mecha anime. Both have a teenage protagonist is placed in a new, unknown situation, and who holds the power to change the fate of the world. Both anime have a lot of metaphors and symbolism, as well as surreal imagery, which might confuse some watchers. Also, both have a similar tone and mood.

Anime: Zoids Genesis
This is the first film in the Rebuild of Evangelion film tetralogy, a series in which Hideki Anno has revamped Evangelion into a story that's less psychologically intense, and is easier overall to understand than its parent TV series. This particular film is nearly identical to the first six episodes of the TV series, just on a much higher, Hollywood style budget. The two currently released sequels (2.0: You Can (Not) Advance and 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo) are where it deviates from the original series' overall plot.

However, many of the reasons I found the original Evangelion similar to Zoids: Genesis are  read more
