A small group of girls trying to start a music-and-dance-related club in their school. They struggle to recruit members, and their goal is to participate in a competition. Cute girls doing cute things.
report Recommended by BreezeElric
Both shows are slice of life anime about a bunch of cute girls. The "main" girl joins a club even though she doesn't know much about the subject of the club, but they have a little trouble creating the club due to a lack of members and advisor. Yui from K-On can be seen as a mix of the both main chars in Hanayamata since she is not very confident, like Naru, but she's enthusiastic and lively like Hana. K-On! is about music and Hanayamata is about Yosakoi dancing, also K-On! is a lot more lively overall. However, both shows mainly aim to being "cute" and  read more

It's both slice of life and they have the same kind of feeling to it. It has some cute elements in it, and both have a blonde foreign main girl. I bet that if you liked one, you'll like the other as well.

Done by the same animation studio and while that doesn't really mean much the two anime still share a lot of other common factors, such as the slice of life atmosphere and the theme about challenging yourself by following your dreams even when they seem impossible to others.

Both have a big focus on drama around the different characters, and both are about girls in school who take part in a music oriented club.

Both are what I consider the better Manga Time Kirara adaptations handling their own subject matter - cheerleading/yosakoi - very similarly: main character is very passionate (which means obnoxious) about recruiting members to their yet-to-be-existent club, obviously with very little success, and there's a childhood friend acting as the wingman. At least that's how they start out. Both have catchy songs for their openings you'll have hard time to forget. The main difference between the two is while Hanayamata is more dramatic in tone, Anima Yell! is more of a comedy, but takes its subject matter seriously when it matters.

Both have cute girls in it as well as also another world type setting too and also cute art and character designs and music sequences as well too.

Hanayamata and Lucky Star are two very colorful Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime. The main characters are all girls in this comedic slice of life show, though Lucky Star is more about its comedy while Hanayamata has more of a concrete narrative. There are similar characters with an eccentric girl who is energetic towards her interests, a shy girl and her close tsundere companion, et cetera, but they are different enough to consider giving this show a try.

Both shows feature a cast of cute characters who were became friends because of a joined interest. Comic girls with Mangaka's and HaNaYaMaTa with Yosakoi dancers. Moeta and Naru are both cute shy girls who love cute things, both with a pink color theme. Koyume and Hana who are both the hyper friendly bestfriend to the shy girl. Ruki and Yaya with a purple color theme and a cool personality. Tsubasa and Tami, with a blue color theme, and a cool like personality that makes them popular. If you like cute moe shows featuring cute girls doing cute things make sure to try both of these!  read more

Both the anime are completely all girls anime. Both got a group of cute girls doing cute things. Both focuses on either dance or music. Dressing is pretty similar. Character troupes are pretty similar. Both super comfy to watch. If you liked one, the other is a must try.

They both share the "Main girl wants to make her dream come true". To do so, both animes form an music "group" and perform in live stages. Both have rather simple and straightforward plot, can just laid back and enjoy! Though sometimes it can get a bit serious when it's really needed

Who needs manly men when you can douse yourself in fluffy feminine sweetness! Both Hanayamata and Yuru Yuri do exactly that my friends, no longer do you have to deal with harems that revolve around a brain-dead pervy guy, but instead focus on the adorableness that is girly girls~ Other similarities: *School setting *Club formation struggles *Comedy all-round *Shoujo Ai for the shippers out there :3 *A main character who doesn't stand out much and easily embarrassed *Directed to an older male audience I recommend both as they're personal favorites of mine cx

Hanayamata and The Cat Returns are two anime which had their script written by industry veteran Reiko Yoshida. The main character is a shy brunette who isn't sure of herself or what she wants to do. But throughout the course of this comedic little story, she meets new people who surprise her at first but slowly lead her to change. Both of these anime also have gorgeous visuals that are a real treat for the eyes, through both color scheme and animation quality.

Both feature a group of female students participle in the club activity. They receive strong opposition from the school council president to the point of active sabotage. However, she changes her mind and ends up joining the club instead.

Both feature school girls creating a club, and feature a blonde foreign student. They both have a similar tone and genre.

Hanayamata and HeartCatch PreCure are both colorful anime that feature a whole bunch of flowers, especially pink flowers like cherry blossoms. The main character in both shows is a shy girl who meets a much more energetic girl and kinda wants nothing to do with her until they spend some more time together with this strange girl's hobby. Both shows also have this charming, bombastic energy to them at times, though HeartCatch PreCure is more of an action-packed magical girl show.

Both have cute girls that are not portrayed in a sexual manner, both have a charming plot, and both have some really good characters

While it seems like a weird comparison, Hanayamata and Clannad are both gorgeous-looking anime with some similarities. Many of the main characters are schoolgirls and the main duo of both shows have to deal with the difficulties of setting up a brand new club. Though these are also both slice of life comedies, there are also some emotional scenes where characters have an episode (or couple in Clannad's case) dedicated to themselves for character development.

Both have a non-Japanese female main character with a similar lively and energetic personality who does silly antics aside from having a similar a character design. Both shows are about school clubs and mainly take place in a school setting. Catchy opening and ending themes as well as cute and moe characters. Though Hanayamata has a more dramatic feel to it.

Both are about a group of school girls with different personalities who become close friends. Both mc are a bit shy but they're always encouraged by their friends so that they'll dare to blossom. Both mc are a bit clueless and whimsical. Also Wakaba and Tami both have never stopped anywhere on their way home from shcool and are both from a wealthy and strict family. Their friends want to show them a good time. Sure these shows have a lot of differences too but it gave me the same type of feeling while watching.

An enthusiastic and energetic girl helps a timid protagonist come out of her shell and most the make of her school life by joining/starting a school club. The main difference is that Hanayamata is about yasokoi dancing, while Amanchu is about scuba diving, but the shows feel very similar.

Although these series differ from each other in some aspects, they also have similarities: - Both have a group of 5 girls, who decide to form a club for something they consider very important (in Hana it's a yosakoi dance club and in Love Lab it's a club for love problems etc). - In both friendship is a very important part of the show. - In both sad things happen, there is drama and the girls open up to each other. - In both series some of the girls feel like they are lacking something. - Both have extra beautiful animation, colors and art. - Both are shows loaded with cuteness,  read more

- Both are slice of life anime, aimed at a more mature audience. - Both involve some of japanese-exclusive form of entertainment. - One involves yosakoi (a traditional japanese dance), other involves Rakugo (a type of comedic stage performance) - Both involve a cast of 5 girls. Fans of Joshiraku will appreciate Hanaymata as well.

A serious but funny and heart-warming musically-themed anime about group of girls striving for something together.

Both involve a similar, soft mood, and revolve around cute girls doing cute things. In Hanayamata, it's yosakoi dancing. In Yama no Susume, it's mountaineering. The two main leads are also similar, and their way of involving the other in their particular passion; the bold and outspoken girl interacts with the shy, introverted one and drags them along into their favorite activity.

A rather plain girl has a fateful encounter with an energetic, almost puppy-like girl she's never met before that doesn't quite seem to know how to blend in. They quickly become close. The main character's childhood best friend becomes quite jealous. Though the plots are different, the characters are extremely similar, and it has the same overall happy-go-lucky mood.

The dance at the OP is similiar xD Especially the hand gestures dance One of the MC want to do things and he/she just asked other people (later become friends) to join them to do that White-haired MC the problem bringer xD Cute white-haired MC but full of problem Friendship, slowly but sure.. Building some trust There are so many hilarious things, but comedy is a minor thing Colorful animation, full of beautiful things

Hitohira and Hanayamata begin and go in a pretty similar way. A shy, complexed and un-special female protagonist being dragged into something interesting, and hilarity ensues with said protagonist seeing everything in an overly romantic way. This could leave an impression that Hanayamata, like Hitohira, is a show best suited for girls, with the only difference Hanayamata begins having joy and doing motion after first few episodes, and Hitohira retains more calm and composed.

+ a bunch of cute middle school (I think?) girls + lots of blushing + the somewhat exaggerated cutesy voice + main girls are brunette and have almost the same personality + main girls have some stage fright + have a blond foreign girl who is eccentric and outgoing + moe + no male characters

-Both Characters Have Dancing Content. - You will Enjoy They're Lives or Etc. -I think You will Learn How To Dance xD -The Main Character has a Same Name. In Pretty Rhythm It's "Naru, Ayase" and The Hanayamata has "Sekiya, Naru" Differences: -Hanayamata doesn't have any singing content but the PR:RL have it. -Hanayamata have a Club but Pretty Rhythm Have a Shop auditions (actually, Naru from PR's only work is to be a Manager of a Shop but there's a Prism Dance) -Both Animes dont Have Similarities about the Genres. The PRRL Genre's is Music, Shoujo But Hanayatama has Slice Of Life, Seinen. -Hanayamata is About Yosaikoi Japanese Traditional Dance. PRRL  read more

Both are about group of girls working towards their goal - in Hanayamata it's dancing at yosakoi, in Wake Up, Girls! it's becoming an idol group. It has really similar feeling with making bonds, working hard and trying to change.

Both are about a girl who meets a "fairy" that wants to show her new world. While Hanayamata is more slice of life, Tobira wo Akete is more dementia.

Both series are slice of life genre about friendship between middle school girls with different personalities .

Although these 2 shows differentiate each other such as one takes place in the near future, while the other takes place on the present day, they are quite the same in terms of format and genre. It features 5 main characters, with a slice of life moe format, about doing there daily lives in school. Although they have goals that they must do; one shows that they are determined to do a performance, while the other is preventing their school of shutting down.

Hanayamata is about a group of girls who try to learn a certain dance to participate in an upcoming festival. So Ra No Wo To is about a girl who joins the "military" as a trumpet player. At first, both of the MCs are pretty bad/average at what they do and then they meet other girls who they become close friends with. Both shows have pretty cute animation and are both music related
