Okane ga Nai

This is the second yaoi I've ever watched and though I'm a proud fan of quality gayism these days, it killed all my good-hearted gay-loving intentions to give yaoi in general, as a genre, a chance.

Putting aside the obvious moral issues I have with the baffling and quite fucking creepy idea put into this story, these four episodes contain nothing that's connected to what it should be connected. It's a mix of explicit scenes, tears and rape sessions which, I guess, get people going. Which is you know, fine by me, should this be a pure porn of some fetish bullshit but there is ... no way in Lord's Heaven I'm letting this pass as a romance. Unless you're touching upon the heartbreaking concept of sex slavery from a serious veiwpoint, you might notice that the fucking "yikes" plot of this weebshow and the romance it's trying to pull off somehow don't mix well.

Incredibly disproportionate characters. Art is basically bullshit.

VA had my ears bleed.

Relationships are based on a classically disastrous mix of jealously, emotions that shouldn't be there ( and aren't, really ) and nonexistent romantic intentions that would in real life result in something like a 911 call.

You will feel about as trapped in this anime while watching it as the main character did when he got continuously raped by his romantic interest. ( I guess ? )

I have to admit, Okane ga Nai scared the fuck out of me the first time I watched it in my middle school years.

I was always scared about what would happen to the uke since I put myself into his shoes. Every episode increased my chances of a heart attack until I finished the series with sweat and hot breath. Even the most gruesome torture horror packed anime can't touch upon what I experienced from this yaoi.

Story: I can't. I just can't relive these memories.

Art: It was real enough to immerse me inside its reality.

Sound: The uke's screams sounded exactly like the ... ones in my head

Character: That uke is tantamount to me being fucked

Enjoyment: I refuse to admit enjoyment.

Overall: After all these years, I'm almost graduating high school, my soul is forever scarred.

I can't decide whether to rate it 10 or 1. I can't rate it Pathetic (1) since it made such a 180* change to my soul and there's no way something pathetic can have such an immense effect on me, but I can call it Outstanding (10) in a definite Negative way.

Okane Ga Nai is about Ayase, an 18-year old boy, who is sold on auction by his cousin, so that said cousin can pay off his debts. Ayase is bought by the handsome and violent Kanou, who Ayase apparently helped in the past or something. What he did is never really explained, but it was enough for Kanou to fall in love with him.
In the beginning you think; "Oh, that's adorable. He came to save him and now maybe Ayase will fall in love with him and they'll live happily ever after."
Sadly, that's not what happens.
Instead, Ayase wants to save his cousin from ... the evil collectors and begs Kanou to help him save him. Kanou doesn't understand why Ayase wishes to save the cousin that sold him (and honestly, neither do I), so when Ayase accidently gives Kanou a small scratch on the cheek, Kanou rapes him.
I'm not kidding, he rapes him. And afterwards, he claims that Ayase owes him and the only way to repay him is to sleep with him for money (hence the title "no money").
And that's the show, ladies and gentlemen, Kanou rapes Ayase. Again and again and again, and sometimes someone else rapes him. So I guess you could call the show "Uke gets raped a lot".
But that's really not the worst part. Ayase starts to have FEELINGS for Kanou, at least when he isn't being raped by the jerk. I mean, what the hell? Ayase undeniably suffers from Stockholm syndrome. I wish this show wouldn't try to redeem itself with a love story. It could've worked, if Kanou didn't rape poor Ayase. But no, the show tells us that Ayase LIKES having sex with Kanou. Well, I guess it's alright then!
Honestly, the plot makes little to no sense, but boy is it candy to the eye!
I admit it, the situation itself is horrible, and Kanou uses poor Ayase to the extreme while the creator tries to convince us that it's okay. But it would be worse if the show didn't give us the satisfaction that it does. We see the beautiful uke in dreamy situations that would make any seme want to jump him, and Kanou is delightfully dominant and caring when it counts. Not many yaoi-animes have given me so much to squeal and drool at.
But, admittedly, this is not for everyone. If you're the yaoi-fangirl who likes sweet stories were the boys slowly realize their love for each other and everything's flowery sweet and deeply plotted, skip this one. It will probably make you cry in disgust. But if you like it a little rough with extreme seme/uke relationships, rape and bondage, this is for you!
As I said, this is pretty much soft porn, the plot isn't really that important; it's just there so we can see our cute uke get into dreamy, hot situations. Give it a try if you like those sorts of things, if not, I recommend watching "Junjo Romantica" instead.

Okane ga nai is everything that is wrong with the yaoi genre, and it was painfiul to sit through.

Plot:
Okane ga nai's biggest sin is that it's trying to portray itself as romantic, when in reality it is very sick. It is constantly trying to make the viewer think "oh isn't that sweet, they love eachother!", by having the characters in various dramatic situations where at the end they like eachother more. The truth is that this is a story about a possesive man, who become obssessed with a boy because he lent him an umbrella on a rainy day, who believes that raping is ... bad, but does it anyway. In order for his "beloved" to be free from the debt his cousin thrust upon him, the man pays him lots of money in exchange for sex. ROMANTIC HUH? 1/10.

Art:
The proportions are completely off: oversized shoulders and hands, thick necks, strangely shaped faces, and so on. Strange proportions is common in yaoi, but this is one of the worst designs I have ever layed my eyes on. The uke has discustingly big eyes (and several layers of eyelids, for some reason), and he looks like he's ten times younger than he actually is (fake shota). On top of that the seme of the story looks cross-eyed several times (just look at the OP).

Backgrounds are simple and just as uninspiring as the character design. The colors are dull, and there is way to much grays, blues and beige. On top of that it is obvious that it had a low budget, so there is very little (and lazy looking) animation. 3/10.

Sound:
The only average part of the series. The OP is passable (but the lyrics doesn't fit the show at all), the ed forgettable, but both are OK to listen to. The background music is the typhical elevator music that sadly haunts most yaoi and hentai. The voiceacting isn't bad, but not particulary good either. Jun Fukuyama's voice is usually nice to listen to, but here it annoyed me, because he sounds scared and pathetic most of the time. 5/10.

Characters:
The main characters names are Ayase and Kanou, but screw it, lets call them Seme and Uke, because they are such stereotyphical yaoi characters, and neither of them are likeable or memorable. Uke is kind and almost always scared... that is all you get. Seme is possesive, a rapist, but tries to make things right (only to fail, but uke is such a sickly forgiving person), and that is all you get, The way the two main characters interact feels unrealistic and forced.

The only decent character is Someya, and only because he/she has attitude and likes yelling at the Seme. There are no deep or interesting characters in this show. 1/10.

Enjoyment:
With everything (other than the sound) bothering me, I don't think it's suprising that my enjoyment is as low as it can be, and only stubborness made me complete the series. 1/10.

Overall:
It's a lousy yaoi, and there is nothing to praise. 2,2/10.

Is this a series for you?:
If the premise appeals to you then go for it, but if you want to watch it only for the sex, don't waste your time. You barely get to see anythig (and the little you get is still images, and it is tasteless and mostly rape as well).

If you want better yaoi series, then I recommend the manga Junketsu Drop, and Zankoku na Kami ga Shihai Suru (compared to Okane ga nai, and most yaoi, it portrays the mental wounds caused by rape in a more realistic way).

I give this story a 10, the art is awesome this deserve a 10 as well,the sound and characters is a 10, the enjoyment is a 10 over all score is outstanding I guess it depends on peoples preference. Rather straight or the other way, it is a wonderful story. I love it. The story line is great, since, it\'s about a hard core Loan Shark who gets soften after rescuing the boy who once saved him and when it\'s his turn to return the favor it ends up that he develop some feelings towards the boy. I would blame him, Ayase, ... with his angel eyes and slender body. Any man or women would have fallen in love with him along with his kind soul. You can\'t beat that. Awesome anime fair warning wouldn\'t recommend it for those who are under 18.

This was the very first yaoi I ever watched, and it turned me off for ages.
The story feels unimportant and alien, the characters are merely vessels of horny-ness, the art is simply not to my taste, and the fan service isn't even particularly interesting. It is completely devoid of romance, but still insists on half-assing the porn. I generally abhor rape yaois, and this never progresses past that. A good choice for when you're sick and tripping on cough medicine, and have nothing better to do and no expectations. A bad choice for any time else.

My biggest gripe with this anime is how ugly and bizarre-looking the characters are. Indeed, there is a fine line between highly stylized and just plain ugly. This has crossed that line.

The uke looks like what would happen if Shou Tucker got his hands on Pico and a yorkshire terrier. He is oddly angular, is nearly always crumpled in a position to receive his seme's penis, his eyelids have many wrinkles in them to make him look like an old woman when he's closing them, and he's nearly always crying like a little bitch (see: yorkshire terrier). The seme should put a bow in ... his hair and call him Precious.

Speaking of the seme, he's the ugliest wart of all. He's about seven feet taller than the uke (who probably has to stand on a stool to give him a BJ). If this were real life, the seme would be roughly the height of a telephone pole. His head is shaped like a yield sign. Sometimes it's too small for his body, and he looks like a pinhead. It's decidedly un-erotic. His hands always have the trademark yaoi-genre hugeness. Every time he sticks a finger up the uke, he's getting a prostate exam. He also has a bizarre, straight-across hairline, which is a severe deformity and most likely the result of a bad hair plug technician.

This anime has all the sensuality of a Hagrid x Dobby fanfiction. None of the rape scenes will get you wet unless the thought of a telephone pole with a yield sign for a head and baseball mitts for hands f*cking a small yappy dog gets you hot. All in all: do not watch this anime if you're looking for a coherent romance. You will not find that here.

This is the story about Ayase and Kanou. Ayase as a very cute innocent boy, gets into a tough world where kindness and love are strage world. Nevertheless Ayase keeps his kindness and during the story he discovers his true feeling. Even through this anime plays in a rough world, there is a lot of humour in there as well.

I remember when Okane ga Nai was deemed as one of the most harmful anime and manga in the history of Japan. Now... it can't even compare to the psychological gore anime and manga that teenagers read and watch nowadays. Heck, the Yaoi manga these days are even more intense in their sexual display than Okane ga Nai. Not to mention that they're more stupid too with their redundant plot line and boring stock characters.

Okane ga Nai is a story about a cruel merciless man name Kanou Somuku who found love in the innocent and kind young boy name Ayase Yukiya. You would think that ... this is going to be another Beauty and the Beast story but reality isn't always so romantic. Unlike Beast, Kanou couldn't find it in his heart to let Ayase go. Thus, resorted to means like threats, blackmail, extortion, and even rape to keep Ayase by his side. Thus, the story of the demon king and his princess begins.

I don't think that Okane ga Nai is really about the sex, the characters, or the story. I think Okane ga Nai is more about the dynamic and the feelings that it creates. In other words, the delivery.

In every romance, whether if it is Shounen, Shoujo, or BL, There is always the needed feeling of want and desire. Like how in a Shounen story, the male main character is desired and wanted by all the female characters. The same goes with Shoujo story. This feeling of want and desire is what drives people to like or dislike a romantic story.

Out of all the manga that I've read, I think Okane ga Nai has the most intense desire of all. Story like Mirai Nikki where Gasai Yuno is obsess with Yuki doesn't even come close to Kanou's feeling for Ayase in Okane ga Nai. And the factor for this is the gruesome and cruel things that Kanou do to Ayase. In other words, the sex and the gruesome stuff from Okane ga Nai actually contribute to the feeling of want and desire. That's because in romance, everyone want to be love the most by a desirable figure. That's because everyone project themselves into the character. That's because... everyone is selfish.

PS: I still can't believe that Jun Fukuyama voiced Ayase even after watching Ixion Saga.

First of all, all of the people trying to justify Kanou raping Ayase are trash. No exceptions. Rape is rape. It doesn't matter if Kanou's paying Ayase, if Kanou takes him against his will, HE'S TRASH. You can't look at this OVA through rose-coloured lenses and be like 'oh, but Kanou loves him so it's okay'. It really isn't.

Moving onto the OVA itself, the plot is non-existent. So, Kanou becomes obsessed with a college student, just because he gave him an umbrella on a rainy day. WHAT THE FUCK. And from there, it's rape, rape, ... Ayase forgiving his cousin and the other guy who rapes him (like WHY?) It literally makes no sense for Ayase to be so forgiving considering what the poor thing's been through! Oh, to continue, there's some more rape, rape in front of a mirror! some tapes, more rape, family members being assholes, rape, and to conclude... to be honest with you, I've had to lock a lot of these memories away in fear that they might cripple my mind. It's stunning just how BAD this was. It showed up in my recommended after I found myself listening to the Boku no Pico opening (I actually kind of like the opening) and I really don't know why and I wish it hadn't but it had.

The only thing that stopped me from rating the Character section 1 rather than a 4 was the okuma, who provided some pretty decent comic relief. Also, it's out of sympathy for Ayase.

The sound really isn't that memorable. The OP was decent; I don't remember there being an ED but that could just be my memory. Idk.

The art is ridiculous, honestly. Kanou has these big ass shoulders and a large unrealistic body and then a tiny little head... the fuck? and then Ayase has these abnormally large eyes and it's so obvious that they're designed to look like stereotypical seme and uke. I have to admit, the animation wasn't too bad, but these body proportions... boi... *tips fedora*

I don't know why I watched this, if I'm honest. Watching Boku no Pico would've been a better use of my time than watching this trash.

This story was, sorry to say....pointless. And nothing unusual..You can find that type of story in every novel nowadays...A rich, successful guy has everything but love, took a shot at it but failed, so now he's ice king..Some commoner manages to worm his/her way into his life and BANG! Rich tycoon falls for commoner, they get married and live happily ever after....It's almost like a cliche now...

There was nothing but sex, sex and sex. Ayase's cousin was a completely heartless man to be frank...

The art was awesome..Ayase was cute...though there were some cute moments as well....Though the funny thing is, that it was aired on ... my birthday...

But all in all, it was just a time pass.

Story:
I honestly think that if the story didn't have Ayase being raped the story would've been better. When Kanou "saves" Ayase instead of treasuring him like he wanted to do in the first place he gets mad when Ayase scratches his face. Seriously? And then somehow Ayase is supposed to fall for him? Unbelievable.

The art was maybe really the only good thing about it, well at least for some characters...*cough*Ayase*cough*
Sound:
Hah, the sound? I guess I can't say that I enjoyed the opening or the ending but I didn't hate it either. The voices for Kanou and Ayase were okay.
Character:
Again, Kanou would be ... an okay character if he didn't rape Ayase, I actually thought there were parts in the first episode where he was quite caring... but as for Ayase I felt bad for him. Like how could you fall for that kind of guy? Even though there were those parts where I thought 'Oh Kanou isn't such a bad guy... but then I remembered the beginning...
Enjoyment:
If you already couldn't tell, I didn't really enjoy Okane ga Nai though I do have to admit that I found it -cute- when Kanou freaked out about Ayase's fever. I'll probably update the review after finishing the series since I only think it's fair that watch the full 4 episodes before giving my opinion.
Overall:
As I said before Okane ga Nai would've been better (or at least more realistic) if Ayase wasn't raped by Kanou (Really, can you imagine falling in love with someone who raped you? Come on, seriously?) I will continue to watch the rest of the OVA though sometime and when I do will update.
As for the yaoi fangirls out there... worry not, as I am one too though I guess I'm not really into this kinda stuff XD

Of the yaois, this is a harder one. If you've just started the yaoi scene...this isn't for you. An OVA as most yaois sadly are, Okane ga Nai does an excellent job covering in only a few episodes what accounts for chapters in the manga. The artwork is lovely and very classic of yaois. By this I of course mean very masculine semes, very very feminine ukes. It's actually joked about several times in the anime when people mistake Ayase for a woman. This is very fetish fuel based. Non-con,shouta. It's a true classic in terms of yaois. Very high on this fangirl's list.

There may be like one spoiler in this review its not that big because there are only 4 episodes so its alright to keep reading.

First of all I've got to agree with the people who were scared to even watch the intense 4 episodes. Each one had that horror movies effect of not knowing what would happen next. It just seemed like whenever Kanou would get mad I just thought he would take his anger out on rapping Ayase. I honestly felt so heart broken when Kanou raped him the very first time. Just because Ayase scratched his face. Its like I can get that ... yeah smack him in the face for doing that but raping him of that little incident. Its not like he did it on purpose.

When Ayase was first showed off to the bidders at the auction and the dudes showing him off to everyone was just so wrong on so many levels. Getting the first look at Ayase face truly heart breaking. Its like how can someone so cruel do that an innocent person like him. At first when I saw him I thought he was a kid like 12 or 13. Sense he was so young and short it just made me wanna cry every time he was hurt. He has such a big heart it kinda sickens me because wouldn't you want just a little revenge, but revenge never solves anything it just makes things continue and never stop. There was this one part when they when Kanou and him were "at it" and he was looking in the mirror he could have just tried to run away but he stayed there because Kanou told him to. Would it be considered rape if he didn't try to stop him when he had the chance kinda (idk). Its not like he could have gotten away that far but come on dude just give it some effort and make yourself run if your so ashamed of whats going on. Theres another thing I don't understand its that he apparently developes feelings for Kanou which is outrageous and don't have one clue why. (he assaulted you for goodness sake have some common sense!!) But at the same time would you call it "love"? Well I guess "love" comes in many ways. Because Kanou seems like he really does love Ayase.

With Kanou I don't exactly get how Ayase had such a big effect on him. He only asked if you needed any help and covered you from the rain with his umbrella. Then Kanou goes and "buys" him. I do understand that he "saved" him from that place but come on dude why you got to cross the line and rape the innocent boy. But when you think of it he did "kinda" save him from even harsher people than himself. Kanou did have "good" intentions toward Ayase like actually trying to be part of his family or trying to make him happy. But maybe try doing that minus the rapping part.

Now don't even get me started on that dude that rapped Ayase just to get the tape back or something. There are no words to describe what he did to Ayase. It was literally so bad I couldn't even watch a second of it, and just skipped over that whole section. I honestly had to take a couple of minutes and pause the show to process how awful that man was. Yes I get Kanou is not any better then that politician is but you can tell that he does put effort in trying to make Ayase comfortable around him. But its still no excuse for what both of them do to him. When Kanou brings out his daughter it was like "yes! now hes gonna get what he deserves for messing with Ayase." But when Aysae stopped Kanou from hitting the girl, and explain that she has nothing to do with this situation, and just wanted to go back home. It opened my eyes so much. Wouldn't Ayase want something to get back at the man who asulted him. But his expression saying those words really surprised.

If you really decide to have the guts to watch this anime just saying it has a subbed version (just to inform you).
When Kanou and Ayase are "at it" the creators could just left out all the stuff they say. I get they probably wanted to make this realistic or something but I didn't need to hear it.
I don't really know what to say if I like this anime or not. There were some parts where Kanou was trying to ease how scared Ayase was. Those scenes were fine. There was maybe a little joking in the show but certainly not a lot. The art was good especially how they made each persons expressions but they probably didn't need to go into so much detail with some parts. Don't worry for the people out there that font want to see a college boy naked. All you see is his arms legs the typical stuff just to put that out there.
Seeings all what goes on in this anime don't be alarmed if you all of sudden start hearing there voices and have images in your mind that you cant get rid of. I'm not saying I do this on purpose trust me I don't but its was just so surprising what Ayase had to go through.

Not recommended for newbies in BL, watch a few Shounen Ai before diving into a Yaoi like this one. Which was my mistake. So my first impression of this anime was, "Rape! Rape! I don't like this! Where's the love?!" But you'll come to find that most--if not all--Yaoi and Shounen Ai have an unwilling character. This Yaoi has been given a lot of hate, and I think it's because Kanou is misunderstood.

First of all he's younger than he looks, 26. He places the 1.2 billion debt on Ayase to keep him close and protected. He's possessive, unsure how to convey his feelings (probably ... because he has no experience in love), and can be ruff when those feelings are hurt. But he cares very much for Ayase and immediately regrets hurting him in any way. He feels a bond between them and admits to being saved on more than one occasion by Ayase’s kindness. In the last OVA he’s surprised when Ayase only just realizes that Kanou loves him.

To start off I didn't actually have a reason for watching this anime, I saw it and thought, OK it's Yaoi.. why not..

Here's what i thought of it, truthfully, and my takes on yaoi's may be different to everyone else's so whoever thinks god why'd she like that, it's just my preference:

Story:
Straight up after reading the Plot you think 'wow. sold for prostitution by his own cousin, with rape in it and all that, definitely not watching this one' But for me, I just thought 'fuck it i'll watch ... it'. Moving aside the two main characters the situations they fall in, are to me; interesting, like the feuds with other people made it a little better and kinda evened out the whole rape thing. It's definitely not the best storyline, but I really didn't mind it or complain.

Art:
I actually like the way they drew the characters, it just worked for me, the whole uke having big eyes and a small face and the seme with the longer face and.. basically being twice the size of the uke (the hands are fucking HUGE) BUT. I just liked it the seme's are quite cute especially the twins huehue. I liked the overall background art it wasn't TOO shabby!

Sound:
If sound means the voice acting, thumbs up for seme's because their skills were OK! But with the uke, was a bit over the top for me, always is but just too quiet..
The sound effects.. THE COVERS RUFFLE TOO MUCH, but normally in yaoi scenes the kisses aren't realistic, sounds weird but they did sound legit, so ya I support.

Character:
I liked the character designs, the uke was adorable and cute (maybe his eyes too close together kinda makes me laugh) but it worked, on the other hand the seme's were rather freakishly large, the head was ok but their bodies and hands could've been sized down! I liked the twins and the cross-dressing man, they were a nice addition I loved them.

Enjoyment:
HELL I ENJOYED IT. I don't know why, I didn't really like the uke's moans because it's way over the top and repetitive.. I just kinda liked how things were edgy, alot was going on and I didn't get bored!

Overall:
I wish that there was more episodes, it ended without satisfaction. I feel there SHOULD be more, I feel it's incomplete so.. But other than that and the uke's voice I actually enjoyed this more than I should have, probably wouldn't say out loud irl that I enjoyed it but yeah! Moving aside the rape IT WAS GOOD. So for me 7/10 my view for this anime is probably higher liked than everyone else but really it's just preference!
I liked it because it isn't a plot i've ever seen before, the way they draw the characters, I kinda like, and the nudity isn't THAT bad, normally there's crazed nudity but on here there's no definite sight of genitals, yay.
I disliked parts because of the voice acting for the uke was just a little cringy and the seme's hands being... crazy big.
That concludes my review! I wouldn't watch it again but i'm definitely don't regret watching it!

I don't know where to start with this anime... this anime is just uncomfortable. I dropped it after the first 2 episodes, I couldn't watch it. Its only 4 episodes, but its just cringy and terribly bad. The characters are very one dimensional and they're all just unlikeable. I don't usually drop anime's, but this one I just couldn't even.
Its just bad.. and I really don't recommend this anime. I thought I might actually like it and that was not the case at all. Please just try to stay clear of it. It's cringy, cheesy and the characters are just flat. The music is ... lacking, forgettable. This anime is awful awful awful. And the romantica relationship between the two main characters? The romance is forced and yuck, rape is never okay, this is not "sweet", I felt sick watching this.

I've watched a couple of yaoi and this was something else... While I wasn't a huge fan of the art, I gave it a try anyways and got used to it. What I could not get used to was the rape theme. In all, there was probably almost a dozen rape scenes. There was no Stockholm Syndrome or real attachment, it was more like submission. It took almost all four OVA segments to come to a point where Ayase is willingly participating.

There was some character development though. Kanou becomes less aggressive, and overall more likable as the OVAs run. ... He steps back in an attempt to be less selfish and demanding and succeeds. He is only one to develop. Ayase, while admitting to his feelings in the long run, never really changes or develops; if anything, the admission almost comes from left field.

Overall, I would not recommend this anime. There are better yaoi, and if you're watching it for the sex, the rape tone makes it very uncomfortable.

I'm already @ 3,and I love it!^^And idk why so many ppl are flamming on this anime,its about money,sex,trust,freindship,family,and most of all Yaoi,this my second favorite anime other than Junjou Romantica.The art and animtaion is beautiful.

Okane ga nai (No money) is a really good yaoi with many feelings, and with a really good story.

One of the main characters Yukiya Ayase (Uke) is a innocent university student. But his cousin is selling him on a auction, to pay his depts to a very rich man. Somuku Kanou (Seme) is buying him, and treats him very bad at the beginning.

I find it really sad when he is doing that to Ayase, I feel so sorry for him.
Because he doesn't deserve it at all!

The soundtrack in the anime was so amazing, it fits perfectly to the anime. The opening ''Romance way'' ... is also so perfect to the anime.

I really enjoy watching this yaoi (I have watched it a few times now), it makes me happy, and sad in the very same time! But, I've also a fan of the manga, and I really want the anime to be longer!
